C00L.. Thanks for update after covid ❤..
I recommend coin wipes/towels tables, just add water of your choice, bring a bag for trash and 16oz gas can or higher if you know you'll be out of reach of a gas station ⛽️.
    I ride a sports/cruiser and yes it's possible. UA-cam helps with info 👍.
This video covers almost everything but you'll learn base on where your located😅.
I've only gone a couple times but will never forget my first time when temperatures went down ten degrees at 2 am🥶...
I wish I would have took advantage during covid 😢.. Life happened and got in the way of taking quality time to myself 🤷‍♂️..

One thing I like to do before I go camping on a motorcycle is do a shake down run. Go for a test ride and see how the bike feels with the extra weight. If you need to move the weight around to get the bike balanced better, it's better to do it before you actually head out and ride.

As a long experienced camper, I'd offer this one "tip". If you are inclined to getting cold, always take a pair of mittens and "sleeping socks" with you. If I can keep my toes and fingers warm, I can sleep. If I can't, I'm pretty miserable. Sleeping socks, that I never wear under boots are the best. Wooly, warm, so comforting. And as Jess says, Rox straps are a MUST. Speical place in heaven for the guy who invented them, even though they are over priced they are worth it.

In bear country it is a good idea to have a portable marine air horn. Bears don't like loud noise. Air horn, pepper spray then 44 mag.

Great tips! One thing I would add for people trying to get into motorcycle camping and struggle with gear, I've always found that hiking/backpacking gear is also perfectly sized for space saving on a motorcycle. If you are on a budget but a little bit crafty, some backpacking forums have great DIY ideas, too.

Thanks again Jess! These are great tips, and even though I don't camp, the power discussion is relevant. I not only have a charged power bank in my rear trunk, I also have the battery jumper with USB ports on it, which is also charged. That's the most important thing - making sure they're "full up" before you get started.

I tented on my bike through Yellowstone a couple times. I didn’t even have snacks in the park and put water in the bear boxes. One night in August in Yellowstone the temps dropped to about 40’ at about 3:30am. I woke up to layer up and heard about 3 other tents doing the same. I would invest in a good sleeping bag before anything else.

I bought a cot last year to try it out, and it was awful 😅😅😅 i almost had a mental breakdown trying to set it up in my air conditioned house haha. So I immediately sent it back because if I struggled that hard inside, I would have set the thing on fire if I attempted to set it up in the hear and humidity out in the woods 😂

@@HerTwoWheels I had the same experience when I bought a cot. I decided it wasn't for me. I also know a few people who can no longer get up off the ground easily and the few inches of cot height made a world of difference for them. For them the trade off is worth it.

Great tips...I have been camping off my GSA for some time and your tips for a new bike camper are spot on. If I could add one suggestion for you to consider. I have a Gazetteer for each state I will be riding in. The Gazetteer is detailed about roads, campsites, interesting spots, etc. I also have road rules..1) No chain coffee shops, 2) No chain restaurants, and 3) No freeways or interstates unless absolutely necessary. Safe travels.

The temperature rating on a sleeping bag is the “survival temperature” meaning that it will keep you alive at the rated temperature. You will not be comfortable. You just won’t die. And the manufacturers ofter fib on the temp rating. For actual sleeping comfort, you need a rating 20 to 30 degrees below the ambient temp.

a good place to start is backpacking lists. you can get some relatively compact quality backpacking gear for not much more than a low quality Walmart product these days.
there are absolutely plenty of things that you can cheap out on. your shelter and your sleep are the two that I would say you really shouldn't. that doesn't mean you need to spend a ton of money on the absolute best of the best and honestly a lot of the most expensive stuff isn't the most durable it's just super lightweight. But a beginner backpacking setup is still going to be lighter and pack smaller than a regular camping setup.

Great video and advise Jess. I did a lot of camping when I was younger and going rock climbing and recently started back into it with Babes Ride Out. Very enjoyable at BRO however in other travels I am usually a motel or hotel gal. One useful easy pack item I would add to the list is thermal underwear in case it gets uncomfortably cold. Ride Safe

This would have helped me 3.5 years ago!! LOL I was so over the top when I camped via my motor.
A couple of comments…. I found a “power-brick” you could say…that puts air in my tires, used a battery jumper, lighting, and usb charging ports.
It’s not the smallest, but I keep it in my saddle bag all the time.
Second, firewood… I had no place to store/carry wood, so I put a shirt down in front of me and carried the wood between me and my gas tank for a few miles.. LOL… I plan much better now!

A wise thing to help with camping setup or for use while camping is to use some usb lights connected to one of those small battery packs. Being in Florida after a hurricane it's easier to use one of those to get other things set up. The one i find the easiest is a clip on light for the laptop to light up the keyboard.

We generally cold camp. Meaning, we don’t cook in camp. Many camping areas fill up early so we start early and knock off early, set up camp and take the bikes into the nearest town for dinner, pick up a six pack to take back to camp, that’s two beers each while we debrief the days ride and plan tomorrows. Now that we are old, mid sixties, we try to alternate between motels and camping. The old back needs a bed. Ha! Ride safe everone!

I just went on my first camping trip on my motorcycle. I went for a one night trip to see fall foliage. I picked a location that I’d driven through. I brought my rain suit and my thin air mattress in my backpack. My tent and bag were wrapped up in a net and bungeed over the pilian seat. I brought no food. It was a short 5 hour ride from home. On the way there I was in a light drizzle, and I dried out before I got there. On the way home; however, the rain suit was necessary as I rode through some heavy rain. Other than having to wash the motorcycle it was a really pleasant experience.

Before I retired from the military, I had to turn in my IV body armor. I net bungeed it to the back of my Harley Night Rod Special, and off down I-15 I went.
As soon as I got on the highway, my armor slipped off the pillan and the cummerbund got chewer up and friction burned. The plate carrier was now unserviceable.
The supply guy didn't care as long as the actual plates were fine.
The point, load your gear securely to keep it from getting damaged/lost. A net bungee isn't enough.

When I started 51 years ago this summer, I used some random Army Surplus gear. Equipment got nicer through the years. My two up riding days are over. My wife can not sit on a bike anymore. Once she stopped riding her own bike, I didn't know how she actually put up sitting on the back. I still go out occasionally. This spring, a two week/ 4,000 mile trip is planned. I still have a few items left from the old days I will take. I won't take all the expensive gear that over 5 decades that I thought I just had to have. My advice is to start Walmart/garage sale and then spend your money as little as possible. Save it for travel. But then, what do I know? I'm slapping new tires on my 53 year old Triumph bobber and taking it(the Electriglide will sit in the garage). I dug out the 1960's Army half tent and the old single burner Coleman (that has survived every interation of gear). My fathers old Army mess kit still does the job he had (I swiped it in 1972) from the Korean War. I will take the newer (expensive) hiking cot. It changed the entire sleeping issue for me, but who knows, I may have this down in another ten years or so! I think these recommendations are useful once you identify a specific need. Get out there and do you.

Green Chile Mondo Straps are WAY better than ROK straps. Same concept but they'll last a a lot longer.

Maybe someone will find this useful.
My action cameras are stored in harbor freight knock-off pelican case. Both cameras and the charger fit with 6 batteries on the top layer. The bottom layer I have a usb battery pack plugged into my charger. This keeps everything protected and I can charge batteries while I ride.
Waterproof duffle is the best choice when travelling. Fits on the passenger seat or rear rack.

@HerTwoWheels, motogiant lost his leg because gear came loose. I use rig straps ,and carrying my gear 2000 miles made me look at my gear alot differently...don't need that, or that, or that

Sleeping bags temperature ratings ARE NOT rated as a comfort level. The temperature ratings are SURVIVAL ratings. Remember that when purchasing a sleeping bag.
