The 1984 James Hardie 1000 was the 25th running of the Bathurst 1000 touring car race. It was held on 30 September 1984 at the Mount Panorama Circuit just outside Bathurst in New South Wales, Australia and was Round 4 of the 1984 Australian Endurance Championship. This race was celebrated as 'The Last of the Big Bangers', in reference to the Group C touring cars, which were competing at Bathurst for the last time.
The race winning Brock/Perkins Holden Commodore
The race was won by Peter Brock and Larry Perkins driving a Holden Commodore for the Holden Dealer Team, the third consecutive victory for Brock, Perkins and the HDT. It was the most dominant team performance for the HDT in the history of the race as the team claimed a 1-2 finish with John Harvey and David Parsons backing up their team leaders by finishing second. Third place was taken by the Mazda RX-7 of Allan Moffat and Gregg Hansford. SUPER100mph - "Our Heroes" Enjoy Our Channel (ICMR)
I love the Lack of ads and logos within the cockpit, you can see the car, the way it should be, magic memories thank you😌
The laps with Alan Grice...fantastic.
The 8 dislikes must be Ford fans. The good old days…. before Caltex Chase, sequential shift gearboxes and 308s running on lead. Those were the days indeed.
Thank you so much for putting such brilliant footage online. Love the old races
At the 17 min. 20 sec. mark I could've sworn that was Paul Hogan driving car 17 who made that comment, "STICK IT UP ALL THEM HOLDENS!" Classic! 😆😅🤣
@PK Gum
Yeah 😄😁😆
that was funny,
cool banter under pressure.
The more mainstream thing was how it was
fukt

Not as funny

One IS a Holden fan👋🖐🤏
So bittersweet waatching these videos of Brock. Today is 8 September 2020 - already.
thes uploads are SO good- thank you so much for the time and effort you out in. i was 14 when i went to my first bathurst which was first year of Group A no Group C...Big Bangers- at the time i couldnt have known what i had missed but looking back i wish i had been able to be at these classic days or racing in Aus. your videos get me va very close 2nd to the real thing. thanks again.
Loved this race, still got it on VHS tape somewhere
I would have told Mike Raymond to wait up a bit!!!!!!!!! Mate talk to me on the straights. Good on ya Gricey!!!!!!!!!!!
What actually happened to Gricey that day.......his co-driver Steve Harrington was given an enormous punt up the rear halfway through Hell corner by Gregg Hansford in the Moffat Mazda RX7. The channel 7 cameras never actually caught this incident except for the in-car footage. It happened right in front of me and it wasn't just a little tap. He had the nose of the Mazda almost planted into the diff housing of Grice's car and the rear end was lifted about 3 feet off the ground. I don't know what he was hoping to achieve as even if he passed under brakes, he would have got blown away again going up Mountain Straight.
Thanks for that Mark, Yeah it was a sad moment, as far as I am aware, nothing happened to Hansford. Just great to hear about what you saw and so well explained on here, gold.. Gricey & Harrington were really on the case that day, until then.
Another long afternoon for me that day, again.. sigh
Super100MPH Gricey and DJ could have given it a real good shake that day but it wasn't to be.
That's motor racing, Brock deserved his win, no hard feelings this end, cheers..

@@Super100MPH : Mid 40's Pom here. 1984 was the first year that I saw the James Hardie on the BBC and I've been hooked ever since, so many thanks for all the great uploads. Forgive me for asking, but are you an ex-racer ?
This brings me back to the 80’s was an awesome year but we didn’t expect what was coming in the 90’s
The Grice SAAS four spoke wheel may not have helped with the wheel alignment problem. Or maybe it did, one extra spoke to hang on to. They were a nice wheel, owned one myself, would love to have it again.
Gricey ! ☝️
Aah memories
.. Back when car interiors came in blue/green or baby-poo brown
CHAMPION !
Brock was no fool if he believed the polarizer worked well it worked
Slow traffic made things more interesting
DJ has a hide taking a snipe at Brock and his taking over the second team car, Dick flogs his car and they either end up stopped on the track somewhere or into a wall. Maybe DJ should have teamed up with Alan Moffat.

Forgive the random place to put this comment but can't message you direct. Just thought you might like this vid ar Racing Volt, being the Gricey fan that you are ua-cam.com/video/oQi599HUrxA/v-deo.html
Many thanks Adam, that was an interesting day! Racing Volt has a great channel, many gems
Do I sense arrogance commentary?
Brocky don’t need praise from piss poor commentary he’s the “King” of racing 🏆
