awesome, I come back to this every 6mo when I forget how to thread it up. This machine is a beast and takes care of everything I throw at it, I know your standard $200 machines would have broken 10 times over.

A friend just acquired one from a friend that passed. She ask me to get it running for her. I was so glad I found your video on threading the machine. She has the original book, but your video was most helpful. Ty

I worked as a sewing machine machinist, it was just a small part of my job, but we made fixtures/ jigs, feet and parts that went all over the world.... my wife has old machines and they out sew anything out there, they even give lower end commerical rigs a good run, she has one like this but named kenmore... the pride and workman ship really come out in those older machines....

Mine was the same way. I found a replacement felt bonnet packing for a faucet at Lowes. It has a 7/8" diameter x 15/32" wide rubber wheel in it. I just had to drill out the hole a little to slip it over the old motor hub. I bought 2 as I walked up and down the isles for about 2 hours to find something that would work. I slip the power cord behind motor when storing to hold it a way a bit tso I avoid flat spots.

I am not sure what you mean by "open it up". The little chrome cover to get the bobbin case has a spring loaded latch, to get to the bottom of the whole machine you loosen the chrome thumb screw at the front and lift the whole machine back(heavy!) from the wood on its rear hinges. To get the bobbin case out you squeeze 2 little ears together on the front of it to release it.

White bought Domestic in the 20's. I think White made these under several different name plates. From the crinkle finish, light style, thread tensioner I figured it is from 1940-1949.
The rubber was cracked on the bobbin winder so I put two O-rings side by side in its place so it is rubber to metal.

This looks very much like the circa 1952 White I learned to sew on--down to the black krinkle finish to the two "bullet" adjustment knobs on top. I don't know whatever happened to it, but I wish I had it now!

Yes everything is steel except for the knob for the light switch and the knob for the thread tension. I have 2 and for being 70 years old everything is still like new on both, nothing has wore out in all that time.

Thank you for your help! That helped me too😁 my old mashing is missing the silver plate that attaches to the bottom after you thread the bobbin

Takes standard 15x1 or 2020 needles from China-Mart or local fabric store.

IDK. Maybe the pedal is not coming all the way back up. Inside the pedal housing there's a little arm that comes all the way up and touch a contact to stop the motor. If the pedal does not come all the way to the top of the slot in the housing this little arm will not reach the contact. If you feel handy you can carefully pop the pedal housing cover off(after unplugging it) and look down behind the white ceramic block and see if that arm is coming up to the contact as you move the pedal lever.

@fatty2027 oh okay thanks! I was just wondering because I picked up 4 packs of Rotary DD1221 needles at a thrift store the other day. At the store they looked just like standard needles used today. After getting home and comparing them to my own modern needles, I found that they were longer in length and couldn't be used in my 2010 Janome. Ugh. oh well. Thanks for your quick reply and Happy New Year to you!

The machine is from ebay, the method of threading is from trial and error.

Mine are 43-176156( number on a name plate) the one in the video. I have another that is made for a table like you describe it has a number that is cast into the body, it reads 43x71671.
I looked into this a couple years ago. If I recall White started the brown crinkle finish in the early 1940s and ended it by 1950. I couldn't date mine any closer than that.

No just regular needle singer 2020 style I guess. I am not a sewer so I am not sure of the standards I have a box that says 15x1h also that works

Copy the O-Ring, good idea hard to see on the vid. , I also had a problem with the fact that mine had sat for years and the friction wheel had taken a set, i had to take a rattail file and run the motor away from the machine and file the rubber to smooth again. i hated the rumble it was making smooth as butter now. They are available online i'll have to suck it up and buy one.

Hi and thanks, want to see if any one has linkls to collectors,in to this type of stuff, saw a web site, and my model, which is different from yours, but almost looks the same, value was over $3,000 not including the table, will forward that link after dinner, also,i read that some of them, were Factory machines, not family, and were worth much more, and electricity was produced, earlier than some might think, england had street lamps, ealry as the late 1800's,so careful, value might be more, even for yours!

Thank you for that demonstration. I just purchased a 1939 Electric White Rotary Sewing machine recently and trying to learn how to operate it. The machine didn't come with its manual. Could you provide a copy? I really would like to star sewing. Thank you for reading. Ellie

your machine is the clone of the Domestic model 151 (or visa versa as i believe white made Domestic and Kenmore) vintage 1949ish according to my reciept. looks like you need a rubber wheel on your bobbon winder it shouldnt be metal to metal.

sprout I had to replace the cords on mine because they were cracked. If your cords look good you should be fine. Same 110volts today as we had 80years ago.
