I did a mini-experiment with rum soaked wood staves and a handful of scotches. The rum brings out a unique agricultural, musty, hay-like maltiness in all the whiskeys I tried. The effect was more pronounced in lighter whiskies like glenmorangie, Japanese whiskies, and blended scotches. The heavy maltiness is a bit counter intuitive, because rum is relatively light as well, and molasses sweet with vanilla. Rum effects work fantastically on these lighter, often cheaper, whiskies. It makes me wonder why glenmorangie doesn’t have a rum finished bottling anymore. Ps: I used el dorado 15 rum
I know what you could do, get a table with wheels and tie strings to it so when Daniel pours Rex just pulls the string, then when is time to pour again Daniel pulls the table back, and so on.
I actually really like this one. Blended scotch yes. But more funky than most blends would dare. Dry but sweet rum finish. If you like dunder and scotch this is worth trying.

Try Rum Fire Jamaica rum maybe it was aged in a barrel that had a heavy funk pot still rum.
