Perfect opportunity to pick up a starting-ready (after 6 weeks) above-average veteran to have as a back-up to Huf and Ji'Ayir. He knows our defense well. Can't think of a better ready-made, bargain, plug 'n play safety backup.

Practice squad for the first 6 weeks to have a solid, above average vet starter or backup for the remaining 13 weeks + post-season is a no-brainer. The guy frequently surprises me by being in the right place at the right time so often. And he's a solid tackler, having saved us from many would-be big plays by the opposition. Huf has frequently praised him for being a great mentor. I think of Gip as a quiet leader in the DB room.
Can he maintain the same performance level at age 34 off the juice? In the NFL you have to be a repeat offender before they suspend , so it’s not the first time. If he want’s to come back the 49er’s should give him a shot and see if he can play at the same level clean.

Suspension or not, bring back Gipson. Yes we do need him! He has been pivotal to our defensive success and I won't pretend he hasn't.
