The Chapala Lake basin has a year-round average temperature of about 19 °C (66 °F).[1] Due to Ajijic's tropical latitude, the sun is warm year-round; due to its relatively high elevation, it is seldom unpleasantly hot or humid. The rainy season begins in June and lasts until October. The average rainfall is 793 millimetres (31.2 in). Even during the rainy season, precipitation generally occurs during the evening or at night.
December and January are the coolest months, with nighttime lows just above 4 °C (39 °F). May is the hottest month, just before the beginning of the rainy season.
Overall, there is very little temperature variation year round: daytime highs in January are around 24 °C (75 °F); while daytime highs in May range from 27 °C (81 °F) to 32 °C (90 °F).

Be aware that if you buy a condo or HOA in MX, you WILL HAVE PROBLEMS. Usually, the boards of the association are crooked or incompetent,, and VERY OFTEN, Mexicans will not pay their fees. Trust me, I'm a multi-year board member in the US, and have had friends in Ajijic who were on boards for several years in MX, and lost their minds.

I would like to know if there are any affordable senior housing communities for those of us who really do not want the responsibility of home maintenance again. Been there, done that. Just want to be free of headaches. We have them here in US but most are lavish and expensive. Not need any nursing care ... just affordable apartment with community functions for entertainment. Any such options there in a mountain city of Mexico? Love to know...thank you.

Not to much difference from the 2 apartments. The first is larger and on one floor with a nice shower. For the price the second house was a much better value and had an extra bedroom. Both had kitchens too small for me. What would a single house cost in same area. For me if I was looking to live there I would want to be in town for the 100K price. It was an advantage of the new apartment that it had a pool. It would give you a chance to meet people. You never mentioned the HOA dues on either place.

Do they still have shootouts like in the old days? My wife as a young girl stayed at someones house in Chapala Or Ajijic with a bunch of her early teen friends. Evidently the supervising parents were out for the evening. They decided to sneak out and go down to the ice cream parlor . Young ladies were not allowed to roam at will unaccompanied by a guardian in the evening. But they snuck out and hit the ice cream place. She happened to notice that the area was kind of deserted. Suddenly two guys appeared, argued, and began shooting at each other, like the Old West. The girls ran back to the house and the housekeeper, who was in on this lark, let them in. My wife lived in GUAD. Her usual guardians were Jesus and Carlos, two rather large indian boys from some remote village. They lived with her family and attended school in Guad. They were like her big brothers. This happened in the early 60s.
