Hey OT Lovers! 🥰 We’re on a mission to hit 10,000 followers on Instagram so we’d love for you to check us out and smash that follow button: instagram.com/theotlovetrain/ We post all our funny content there and we hope you’ll enjoy watching! 😉
Well said guys. I came to the UK with a degree and a postgraduate and a child . Child care costs made me do a survival job , which was more flexible . Doing the survival job made me realise I had a passion for what I didn't even train for. Doors opened for me to re-train , at no cost and was paid during training, a whole three years full time . And the rest is history. Survival jobs indeed can open a whole world of new opportunities or be a transition / ladder to one's aspirations. Just don't get stuck, or you will get drained
You are so on point with letting people know that they should be careful with people they listen to. I mean, I got a 70k job just a month after I landed with no Canadian education or Canadian experience. Just when I thought I had made it, a friend who landed like a month after me also hitched an 83k job, both in our fields. and that was what blew my mind like, where do people actually hear these horrible stories from🤷🤷. So it's very doable. People just need to be focused and intentional with this whole job search thing. It sometimes takes a lot of work and lot of networking, buy stay focused. Aim for the stars and if you don't get it, at least you land on the moon 🌜 🌙
Thanks for validating our validity! 😁😁😁We need to hear the good stories to motivate others coming in and not surrender to less before trying for more 🥳
Absolutely love you guys 🥰 Grew up in Calgary most of my life, but I was over the Canadian survival life, so I moved back to Africa 2 years ago, and I've been so happy. Best decision I've ever made. I come back every year to visit family, but I'll never accept living here full time again. Life in Canada, as an immigrant, is a real trial of existence
Spot on, as always. The thing is most people do these survival jobs, personal support workers, housekeepers, security guards and so on, for 10, 20 30 years..... even oyinbo's too, for me 3 things are key. One, have a good vision of what you want, secondly, develop and maintain a good mindset/character (open minded, inquisitive, humility) 3rd thing take the plunge by acquiring the skills, training/education and stay focused to come out on top, it takes some time tbh, but the journey is well wort it and definitely rewarding at the end.
This advice is valid even as a young international student. Start doing a job in your field so that when you graduate you will have a leg up. Took me 2 years to enter a management position and making decent money and it was because of experience in entry level work.
Oh wow. This is so eye-opening. People don’t give this details. They just tell you to take any job not knowing that the transitional jobs need to be in your field. With this information that I have, Omo I’m ready to do the work oo. Transitional or survival, we shall do it and climb the ladder. You guys rock mehn… thank you for sharing 🤗
Thank you for this, learnt so much. I don't see anything wrong with survival jobs o, I'm currently in Nigeria with two degrees, learning hairdressing. When I learn that one finish, I fit go learn plumbing o, or welding. We must chop this money over there. The bloopers 😂😂😂
Finally, I got answers to the questions I had. Most UA-camrs don't explain what survival jobs really mean but you did just that. You guys have amazing contents. And I'm finally done with all the videos I missed😃. Thank you so much for this video We're waiting for the gist o
Honestly there is nothing wrong with survival job, shebi ka sa ti jeun ni. Nigerian just like to carry unnecessary things like placards on their head. The koko is for the hustle to pay and God should flavour our labour with his favour. You guys are doing a great job and you are really inspiring those of us that want to japa from this Nigeria. Thank you so much❤ The bloopers tho😂😂😂😂
I dont know if you guys can remember me.. but I am here now.. arrived Toronto 3 weeks ago, and this video you guys made.. hmm.. Spot on.. referrals and transferrable skills are major.. There was a video you guys made sometime ago, and talked about LinkedIn.. Omo, highest link.. Also, you need to know how to package yourself.. meet people who have been in your shoes before, and have them help you level up your resume.. job titles here is different from what it is back home.. terms needs to be learned and approaches are different too.. where you get your transitional experience matters sometimes too, especially here in Toronto. Omo, you guys are the bomb!!! God bless you guys. And that dignity of labor ehn, highest!!!
Awesome-I like especially the term “transitional jobs” in place of survival jobs, just changing the term can change mindsets. Well said guys - good content. Please share the link to the acting gig-sounds interesting. I feel transitional jobs are okay to start with, especially if you want your POF to serve you well, and like you guys said, try to get a transitional job/role that aligns with your desired job. 👏🏾
In Western countries indeed there is dignity in labour. In Africa people look down on nursing and abroad they earn big and are respected. People must Learn
Loved this video. I believe survival jobs are necessary (loved that you call them “transitional”). Because you need to integrate into the work force in a new place. However, I’ve noted now that it should also be in your field so that it doesn’t become wasted time and experience when you want to progress. God will not let us be the problem to our progress ohh😁😄😄
I love you guys! So real, down to earth and humble! I love your positive energy and outlook to life. The Lord will definitely keep you and you both will attain heights unprecedented in Jesus name amen.
Abeg you people shouldn't kill us. You guys should go into comedy abeg. Nearly messed up myself watching the bloopers. Thumbs up guys. Proudly a passenger in the OT Love train.
I think survival jobs is a right of passage oh… it did waitressing, library job etc before I then entered into my field but after you have to have your goal in mind. My survival job experience made me appreciate my current career and helped me know the value of money lol
It’s so easy to get stuck on Survival jobs It’s like a roller coaster Problem i am currently facing as a new immigrant here in Calgary 🤦🏾♀️ Lovely video 🙏❤️
I like that you guys are speaking about changing mindsets, it's important. I'm in Australia and it's the exact same thing... some people just start living and searching for jobs based on other people's experiences.
wow! I need to hear this. I'm planning to come over to Adelaide, Australia in 2022 to study and work. I need to know the right /best transitional job for myself.
Thanks guys. This info is what I needed at the moment. I think survival jobs are okay. I'm shooting for the stars though. Hope to meet you guys someday soon.👍
Thanks for sharing. Very informative and will no doubt, be of great help to others. Determination, hard work and focus are very important in achieving success.
This is the second time I heard that you may have to lower your expectations as a new immigrant when looking for a job on Canada. You need to do what you can, until you are able to transition to where you want to be!
Always love your content guys am from Winnipeg ,to be truthful this has given me an eye opener it’s been 2 years I have not worked in Canada coz am a homemaker only my husband works, I did nursing which I don’t think I wana do anymore , am more on the internet side
OT Lovers come out, thanks for the update guys really enjoy each of your contents. As for me ooo if I enter Canada today, I'm going into Caregiving, all job nah jobs. Thanks again for this video.
I want to hear the background acting story oh. I want to mistakenly enter a movie in CA. I know I would get to where I want to get to in my career in CA, I like that the place is dynamic. At the same time I already have the mindset to do what I have to do to stay relevant. So I don’t mind survival jobs. Even in Nigeria I did survival jobs before I got full time work both in school and out of school. Like you said don’t get stuck. Maximize the opportunities to network and transition.
U are right, I remeber I once work in 2 diff company and weekend I will still be in sch as well. This December, I will be heading to Canada to study in Ontario, already I have started doing interviews here in naija already but most of them are not successful, I got another Interview with Coca-Cola who h I miss due to work engagement n by the time I login in, the site was closed....My point is everything is based on mindsets and just remeber that man need to work.....naija nor they slack...all way na way based on job....
Nice!! I enjoyed this video.. Very insightful.. But how did you get hooked up with some of the "transitional jobs"? For someone who just entered the country. Please share
Loved this video!!!!! Yes there’s a lot of scary stories about surviving. And I’m so realized to know that you can take those jobs in your own field and more. Thank you for clearing up doubts and showing it possible to climb up! But I will like to know your thoughts about taxes and cost (standard) of living over there in Canada? The concern that the money you earn at the end of the day even when you climb up the ladder isn’t for you but the government and bills.. thanks 🙏
Thank you so much for this content and sharing more knowledge on this subject. The term "Transitional Jobs" gives a shift in mindset. Thanks once again! :)

Try to upgrade to RPN or RN. Yes the pay is good, however, I work in long-term care and miserable and tired. The getting stuck is no joke.
