i just want to thank you for what you do. i like the *story* in most horror media, but i have anxiety and can't really handle watching most horror videos and movies. the anticipation and the imagery (depending on what it is) is generally too much for me. your videos allow someone like me to be immersed in a story without having to worry about what might be coming up next. i can finally appreciate content that i would otherwise never know existed, and you have no idea exactly how grateful i am that your channel exists.
saxumbonum honestly I completely understand. honestly I almost enjoy this format more than going through it on my own. i love the interpretation that night mind does and I love the theatrics it's incredibly immersive and it's really great for like when I'm doing homework if you like night mind try inside a mind (cp games new channel cp games did alot of horror related stuff with alot of interpretation. )
And this is exactly why I blurred the 'Girl Goes Psycho' video and slowed down the 'Pierre's Head' jumpscare. Messages like yours are the kind I never expected to get when making this channel, and since becoming aware that there are viewers who feel this way and have this experience, I try to keep the course steady and make sure my content is accessible for everyone in the community. Thanks for letting me know I'm meeting that need for you.
being someone else who suffers from anxiety, I'm really glad to hear it's something you're making sure to take into account with your videos. Even if I'm perfectly aware that monsters aren't real, it doesn't stop my brain from insisting they are when I'm not at my best.
Honestly, when the video began and I heard "a hacker comes across a bunch of IP cameras and sees the paranormal through them" I was like "That would be a great movie concept!" So when it was revealed as a basically that, I was like "Oh sweet." I hope the guy who made it did get a career; because it is a really creative and well-made project.

Yeah, I went through the whole gamut of acne cures in high school. One worked that was just a nuisance to take. Now in my 20's I occasionally break out, but I do find that a good day marathon of NM videos clears it right up. I should be in a commercially-nonviable infomercial.

First video I watched, I thought the voice was computerized or something, but then I realized it's actually a person talking. Your voice is absolutely fantastic and a joy to listen to. And the way you describe and explain everything, in detail, making stories that are originally so convoluted seem so simple and obvious - it's truly fascinating. @@JetSetDman as far as i know, the creator of tribe twelve’s ended up being a pretty bad person? you’d have to do your own research on this subject, i don’t know much about it
5 years too late here, but I must say I very much appreciate the detail of having the American guy there too, it’s a seamless way to explain why these French people are choosing to speak English. Excellent!!!
I swear to god your videos are so eerie and scary at times I find myself almost silently begging to hear your voice I'm so shaken. I'm not normally into ASMR but i could literally listen to you for hours. Keep up the great work!
Really? When was the breaking point for you during this video? I'm genuinely curious to know what did it. I might be desensitized now to a lot of the things I cover, because I watch things like this pretty much every single week, so I always like hearing what has a serious effect on viewers when I cover subjects.
You picked an excellent topic this week. It played into a lot of my fears. Where "This House Has People In It" was moreso a performance art piece, this one was a bit more frightening. It took a lot of what I personally love and am freaked out by, like paranormal investigation (not what the video was of course about, but it had characteristics of paranormal investigation) as well as security camera footage and the underlying fear that something could jump out at any time, or affect the hacker himself. Just a lot of fear of the unknown in this one. I didn't make it through the full video, I'd rather wait until day time. But overall just an excellent video.
The other night I experienced sleep paralysis and believe I saw the "Night Hag." I'm still getting over the experience, so I think I'll put of watching this until the morning, when I'm not completely paranoid.
I don't know what the Night Hag is, but I assume it's a shadow figure. That's a very common thing to hallucinate what experiencing sleep paralysis, often it's VERY scary. The trick is to close your eyes, then you're most likely to hear whispering and footsteps but it's not as bad as seeing scary shit. I've thankfully never experienced it (not jinxing it I hope), I'm just going off what I've learned in my lucid dreaming research.
Never had that, the closest was that sharp jolt of someone pulling my leg or struggling to breath. If I was more paranoid I'd think a supernatural creature has it out for me.
It didn't do anything to me, and I know it won't be a problem for most viewers, but I'm very aware that I do have viewers with a strong sensitivity to visuals like that (especially in this case, because they did a VERY good job). So from the onset, I knew I was going to throw a blur on there. It's great to try testing your limits with horror, but only under your own terms. In here, I try to make scary accessible for everybody.
yeah, it was pretty tastefully done, and even having seen the video before, I was feeling a bit uncomfortable knowing what was to come so I was glad to see it was obscured.
This project looks like something you'd probably see as a video installation in some obscure art exhibition at London lmao. Never actually seen supernatural/horror installations but it oddly reminded me of my experimental film classes.
I swear it's 2024 and everytime I get to 6:30 he always makes my heart drop because I saw the makeup video YEARS before I even got into args and such so to see him bring up something from way back in my past will always give me chills
Hey Nick, just wanted to make a suggestion: Put jump scare warnings in your videos. I don't know about everyone who watches your stuff but I'm only here for the mystery. Part of the reason I watch you is to avoid the horror aspects. So I would say make annotations for when they are about to come, that way people who don't want to see it have warning and people who do can turn them off and still be frightened. I don't know, probably just giving you more work but I thought I'd say it.
I think as time goes on the information medium of horror movies is becoming the draw as technology makes the former barriers to entry disappear for traditional horror movies. Its no longer risky experiments to try anything but the 'friday night spook fest to scare teens and make a buck' when anyone can make a bad traditional horror movie and throw in things like the now infamous "video co pilot extending jaw screamer face" -see almost every other blumhouse film of the last few years. I think the crux of it is how horror is literally seen -when the ease of tech to make it is now here- as a by the numbers process. Back in University we were outright told "Horror is just a 6 point story: Isolation, loss of control of the situation, a challenge to overcome, all seems lost, the challenge is overcome, normalcy is apparently restored' and thats how its taught. With the lack of the experimental drive of practical effects and ease of digital pre loaded techniques a straight horror film isn't enough anymore. Sure you can gripe about mainstream horror films, how the current year alone has seen 4 separate films about kids living in walls pretending to be supernatural horror till the end, but its an issue with audience expectations as well. As those expectations change with the times so must the medium and in 1999 it was stuff like The Last Broadcast and the Blair Witch Project but even thats now seen as hokey thanks to things like Paranormal Activity. I think these sort of experiments -which on paper includes many tropes of traditional horror films- are worthwhile ventures in experimenting with execution. I mean the key to horror after all is "don't show it all, let the audience imagine something worse" and with things like this and 'This house has people in it" you pull the audience in not for a jump scare but to hope to see a little more as you tense up, question the source of this growing unease and never quite see the full picture. Multiple sources like this put together only muddies the waters visually in a way i think really serves to pull off what makes horror films truly effective: never knowing the 'why'. Why does there need to be a book in the cabin in the evil dead? who knows. Why was the family in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre so twisted? who cares. Why was Josh standing the basement facing the corner? what does it matter? The piece that ends not explaining the 'why' to the viewer is frustrating of course, but it is also the most effective because at the end of the day you are like the characters, uncertain and in the dark. Not knowing all the answers and just waiting for them to die and get it over with. It keeps you coming back to watch the same films again to notice something new or simply hope that you do. A mystery solved is never as satisfying as all the daydreams and nightmares over what it could be and as people strive for new creative ways to do this i think the creator here pulled off something very well even if the events, acting and progression in a vacuum were somewhat lacklustre. You didn't finish it complaining about the flaws, you ended it wanting to know what was wrong with the house and the best horror films remind us of life rather than let us escape it: Sometimes there is never going to be an answer. It just happens and you will never know why. Hands down my longest youtube comment ever but you dont go to college and university for years studying the theory behind this kind of thing to not get excited about new ways to tell stories!
StarChildJax Sorry, but your comment is really fucking worthless. OP made a meaningful comment about the execution of horror and experimentation, but you complain about the length of his comment.
ok true, you're not wrong-BUT ITS LITERALLY THE COMENT SECTION OF A UA-cam VIDEO. Like come on man, if he wanted to do this he could've just posted it on the possible reddit page for this. Also, don't be such a fucking white knight, kissin his ass like that.
StarChildJax It's a fucking comment, jackass. What the fuck is your problem, shooting down someone's opinion because "it's too long, waaaah!". You stated yourself, it's the FUCKING COMMENT SECTION. Who the hell cares what goes on in it?
Now THAT'S what I call production quality! Marketed and edited like a proper horror movie. What it lacks in "Immersion" it certainly makes up for in delivery.
Every one of your videos is no less than amazing. The only UA-camr that I can super excited seeing a new upload from. Definitely one of the best channels like this. But also unlike any other channel. Keep it up and I hope to see another video soon.
This project really is fascinating. Both from the story prospective and simply from the scares. Most of the time I can sit through one of your videos Nick and not really be bothered by the scares since I'm more focused on trying to figure out what's happening. But this time I just felt.. Unsettled. Even among other found film projects, which are always trying to get a cheap jumpscare out of you, this one seems to know exactly how to get under your skin (Yeah I'm talking about you demon girl staring into the camera). Great job as always Nick, and thank you for bringing my attention to this. Considering whether I should take on the project of analyzing all 9 hours at some point.
Unfortunately, by no fault of your own Nick, I could the bits before the break in this was partially promotional material. It was... formatted too professionally. The self advertising, the movie like tag line... it was a little disjointed from the idea of someone just showing people what they've found.
Sometimes I listen to these videos more than watch them, so i love when I get surprisingly funny out-of-context moments. Like I look away for two minutes and when I look back suddenly there’s some hoodie dude in a trance state casually throwing himself off a balcony aghfssggsc he didn’t even move his arms from his sides
There's plenty of found footage films that clearly played a part in inspiring this, but it overall reminds me a lot of the '92 BBC TV film Ghostwatch, which was presented in the style of a live feed reality show with actual known news personalities involved, and as a tv movie had an added interactive element where it listed a number viewers could call in, which played a message assuring them it was fictional, but so many people called on broadcast night that the line stayed busy and instead added to the terror of it. Given that it seems to be better known in Europe, I wonder how familiar with it Liaros is? Honestly, a Night Mind video about Ghostwatch would probably be pretty cool. It's an older traditional media work, but it was a really interesting early foray into the possibilities of interactive horror, and one that could probably use more love and attention.
I actually like this because the hacker was in a room by himself and no one could get him and we could see almost everywhere in the house without actually having to go there. Cameras are nice.
keep them coming Nick! It would be awesome if you did a part 2 explaining the plot of the short film itself. I don't want to make you watch it all but it would be interesting to see how much effort was exactly put into this project, and I think it would be the only true way to appreciate it in all it's glory
I came back to finish the video (too exhausted to stay up last night lol) and I gotta say the production quality for these vids is insane like it could legit be on television so it blows most of UA-cam out of the water.
Dang, this is the first Night Mind video I'm genuinely struggling to get through. Just something about the atmosphere, the dark cameras, it fills me with dread (excepting the possessed guy falling down the stairs, I laughed for like 5 min). Even now I'm wasting time with the video paused just because I'm nervous. You know it's a well crafted horror experience if even the recap video makes you nervous
Nick you are amazing. I'm so happy to have come a across your channel when I did I never leave disappointed! Keep up the great work, I look forward to these videos all the time! I would of course be so stoked to see you try your hand at an arg or a video project. Heck I would be happy to see you make a commercial let alone a full length film!
Your videos are so good that I keep rewatchin' them from time to time when you don't upload for a while, and everytime I come back, the see that your channel is growin' more and more! I remember when you had so much less subs and discussed your plans for this year and tbh You haven't let us down a single bit. Just stay a little more active on FB and keep us updatin' with what's on the way. Much love fam, keep doin' your thin' Nick! 🙌
It's the heroin addiction of horror; it's fast-acting, relatively cheap, and always works. And it should be fucking outlawed. Just like *actual* heroin addiction works for some very tiny subgroup of users, the overwhelming majority of users, and horror, are absolutely, irredeemably destroyed by its use.
Taticat NineLand To say it should be "outlawed" is just crazy. I'm not saying jump scares can't be cheap, but if done right then i see no problem with one. Cheap jump scares suck ass and so do false jump scares but to say they cant' be done well is dumb.
John doe I'm pretty sure Taticat NineLand was exaggerating on the outlaw of a cinematic technique by comparing it to a drug that has a higher rate of harm than aid.
You are simply the best in this category of YT videos. You have personality, are intuitive and purely brilliant. The problem with the other ones are is that either they have absolutely no personality- make videos just to make them and their fans actually put the pieces together better in the comments than they do or they talk aimlessly too fuckin much OR they try way too hard and just come across as a ass hats
It just kills me when, in the surveillance videos, there are four people talking in English, all with heavy French accents. That immediately destroys the immersion factor for me. Why would they not be talking in French, especially when they're panicking? Clearly they don't *know* they're performing for a wider non-francophone audience, right? Right?! Unless they're all in English class together and they're practicing. Yeah, that must be it. Never mind, my entire argument is invalid. They're just really dedicated when they keep practicing after they find their special friend's corpse at the bottom of the stairs.
short film? yeah I agree 9 hrs of footage is a very small film

imagine them playing that at this film festival they were making it for

Shame it had to end where it did.
5 years too late here, but I must say I very much appreciate the detail of having the American guy there too, it’s a seamless way to explain why these French people are choosing to speak English. Excellent!!!

Oh God.
The first Night Mind video I'm finding too scary to sit through
Really? When was the breaking point for you during this video? I'm genuinely curious to know what did it. I might be desensitized now to a lot of the things I cover, because I watch things like this pretty much every single week, so I always like hearing what has a serious effect on viewers when I cover subjects.
+Night Mind For me it was around 21:30, I don't like people getting super close to a screen, it's very uncomfortable.
Atlas Chronos I agree
You picked an excellent topic this week. It played into a lot of my fears. Where "This House Has People In It" was moreso a performance art piece, this one was a bit more frightening. It took a lot of what I personally love and am freaked out by, like paranormal investigation (not what the video was of course about, but it had characteristics of paranormal investigation) as well as security camera footage and the underlying fear that something could jump out at any time, or affect the hacker himself. Just a lot of fear of the unknown in this one. I didn't make it through the full video, I'd rather wait until day time. But overall just an excellent video.
Agreed, around 21:30 was when I decided I would just listen and occasionally peek at the video.
Amaz1ngWhale I was legit traumatized by that as a child. To this day I get a little creeped out by silhouettes.

Thanks for blurring the blood and stuff at the gross parts
It's funny, it's not that I can't handle that stuff, but even I covered it up lol. It's just so... unnerving....

Now I’m paranoid

Thanks! I'm very grateful for your viewing and support, and glad I can make content you enjoy enough to keep coming back!
I can't help but hear his cool voice when I read his comment.
Thank you for holding our hands through this one, Nick.

Unfortunately, by no fault of your own Nick, I could the bits before the break in this was partially promotional material. It was... formatted too professionally.
Even the comment section has a cold dark Erie vibe with a chill in the air and the feeling that someone is watching you

Fuckin jump scares need to STOP
Does the head bob count?
Black jump scares can be done well you just have to pace them well. It's not just the jump scare that should get you it should also be the build up.
John doe
I'm pretty sure Taticat NineLand was exaggerating on the outlaw of a cinematic technique by comparing it to a drug that has a higher rate of harm than aid.
🤣
Tbf just because they have heavy accents doesn't necessarily mean they're native speakers
They're Swiss French dude, of course they're gonna have accents. That's not their fault. Let's hear you speak French without an accent.
