- In this video we review the Brightin Star 28mm f2.8 for Leica M mount. However this review applies for other mounts as well as Brightin star makes this lens for several cameras.
If you are looking for the least intrusive lens for your Leica M, then the brightin star 28mm is it. It is so small that it is unnoticeable in the camera.
This lens offers a lot of bang for the buck as well as a very unique vintage image look rivaling some of the Leica and voightlander options.
This lens barely protrudes off the mount and it's its small size and focal lens that makes it almost the perfect lens for street photography.
In this video I test the Brightin Star 28mm with my Leica M11 and I also include a bunch of images captured with this little guy.
Speaking about some of the features of this lens: here is an over view of what we will be covering in this review:
- unboxing
- Image quality,
- Handling
- Design
- Vignetting and hazing
- some of its aberrations
- Sample images
and more.
There is so much to say about this lens and for $327 dollars this lens could be the first lens to buy, especially if you are testing the 28mm waters and you don't want to break the bank.
Spoiler alert, the Brightin Star 28mm f2.8 for Leica is not perfect but it is that raw look of this lens that makes me want to shoot with it more often than other most expensive alternatives I own.
Looking for a sharp, inexpensive, yet light and full of character, well.. this may be it.

which one is your favorite 28mm lens?
great review. I think I'm going to have to pick one up for my M6
Won’t regret it
Amazing video, really good review explaining the 28mm lens and the capability.
Thank you. Glad you liked it
Great review, I can't wait to try it!
You should!
Well I guess I just learned a few things. This is great 👏👏👏
Glad you did 👍welcome to the channel
Great review Gaston. How does it compare to the Summaron 28mm?
It doesn’t compare. Different rendering. Dospje is soft around edges but faster at f2.8. The Summaron is sharp and image is great across the frame and of course more expensive.
Is the focusing tab intrusive in any way? And how much force does it require? If you accidentally tap it will it move or do you have to make an effort to adjust?
Focus tab actually has a good feel.
Great review Gaston, my friend has this lens and I fell in love with it.
Lovely lens indeed! I asked them if they can do it in a matter of black and silver grey. That’d look nicer on the camera 😎
This is tiny!!!! Need to try it
And somewhat cheap too. I’ll let you borrow it if you want
nice!
Glad you like it!
Want something wider than 35mm, might bite the hook.
Not a bad lens for the money.
Looks fun! Is the focusing coupled with the rangefinder?
Yea it is!
I guess I will stay with my Leica lens. 28mm Summaron.
Can’t compare. This one does not replace my summicron but when I want to go Uber light for a walk this lens does the job pretty good 😊
MIAMI IN THE HOUSE !
Hell yeah! Are you local too?
