Love these videos and the insight you provide into the thought process. Thanks DLL! I struggle with learning through text so looking forward to going up against Cul in game and figuring out the puzzle. On listening seems like Kushala is going to be good for him though
I’d love to learn more about the thought process around having stories that turn masteries off. What’s the design intent behind that? Because it’s becoming a point of frustration to play against but I’d love to understand the other side of the coin
I talked about this more in my livestream today if you want a longer discussion, but a couple quick points (may come across as curt as I've had this discussion a few times recently, but that's not my intent): 1) if you want specials to be a threat, you make the animations difficult, or you add some other wrinkle to avoiding them. I don't see one as inherently superior to the other, and I think that if we choose the animations too often, we're increasing the barrier to entry on the game and creating a defender many people will never fully master (see Korg), as opposed to someone that can be countered by actual abilities (reminder this one is tied to a buff being active). 2) we've had characters that turn off dex for more than half of the lifetime of the mastery system (check the release dates of Heimdall, Void, and Domino), so I consider this a well-established precedent and a valid tool in a designer's toolbox. I've seen it called lazy design, but I honestly feel it's closer to cowardly design to *never* use this tool instead of trying to use it fairly, which I think I have.
@@Daddylonglegs93 I appreciate you taking the time to respond, I found the answer to be very respectful to the question too. I can’t say that I’d agree completely with the justification but it is a fair point to raise. I find unavoidable damage generally unfair and questionably not fun either as it’s reduces the importance of skill in my eyes. I’m willing to give the Serpent a fair shake though, your track record has been amazing to date. Even Photon while annoying at times feels fair at this point. So I’m sure you’ve left doors open on how to fight this defender as well.

Look forward to future content from you, and your characters.
Man he’s so cool and so complex. Seems like White Tiger may be a good option for him, but I think I need to watch this again because I’m sure I missed a lot 😂 Seems like a great champ - nice work!
Apparently Vibranium is non magnetic in the comics where as Uru is not stated to be outright non-magnetic so I think the designers just said "srew it give them the #metal tag"
Will the abs man fight allow for instant damage now when he is rereleased in the gauntlet for WoW? That tech seemed to develop just in time to allow that abs man to get through but not hurt a new defender.
If you catch yourself suspecting we're doing something just to be unfair, as this comment implies to me, you should take a minute and pause. I don't really care if that's what you choose to believe, but if that's where you're starting the conversation, it's not likely to be very productive. But assuming I read it incorrectly or that you are interested in the answer, there's a few things going on here. (1) the DoT immune node was developed last fall for the Legends celebration, not for the WoW fight. That's around six months before Serpent, not just a few weeks, which hopefully makes it clearer how tech could exist for one and not the other. (2) we maybe could have rushed the tech for the WoW fight, but there is a significant cost in dev and QA time involved in building a new node, even one that's just barely different, and we can't afford to make unlimited new nodes when older ones come close enough, which leads me to (3) just because I'm using the WoW fight to explain the difference in what we COULD do doesn't mean the quest designer would've chosen to let instant damage through. That's not a knob that decreases difficulty by X percent, that's a design change that dramatically affects how good certain options are. There's an argument that champs like Overseer and G99 might have been TOO good with that change, which means there's also a playtesting cost involved if we want to compare the two versions. And with that in mind, no, I don't expect that we will make such a dramatic change when the fight returns just because we theoretically could.

Hey DLL, just curious about his ability to reduce the damage of instant bursts. Is it specific to DOT bursts such as Valk/Knull/Peni bleed/incinerate bursts or it also extends to things like hulk bursts from trauma or masacre bursts from crits?
I think I’m misunderstanding the special 2 burst damage. If I am doing the math, I’d multiply the armor rating by 2.5 then multiply that by serpent’s burst damage? So if I am fighting doom I’d be doing way too much burst damage. Where am I getting confused?
It's multiplied by the opponent's armor rating *as a percent.* So if your opponent has a flat value armor rating that against the serpent translates to a 50% reduction, you'll multiply the listed burst damage by 1.25 (which is 250% of 0.5) and then scale it up with the Serpent's modified attack. I fully understand that this is difficult to grasp precisely, so this is a good question. We tried to split the difference as well as we could between brevity and clarity. The most important part is that more armor means more damage and no armor means no damage, but I think your question shows the next big thing to clock is that this is looking at the percentage *after* diminishing returns has been applied.
fair question. You can still parry with non-tactic champs and get through it, but while that path blocks out nullify and stagger, it lets fate seal through, so you also have the option of turning the armor off entirely with someone like Longshot or Hood.

Why can’t magneto counter him? Kabam has basically taken him out of the game because he doesn’t counter anyone anymore. Kabam does not know balance. Either someone is op or irrelevant.
I literally explained this in my video, so I think I'll just point out the irony of you saying that we're the ones who don't get nuance when you're accusing us of making a powerful character that still shows up all the time in war and PvE "irrelevant" because they don't counter a cosmic as a mutant.
It was a 45 minute video so i’m sorry if i missed something but i heard you say you made serpent not #metal so magneto can’t counter him because if you did make him #metal you’d have to make serpent harder in general (i’m paraphrasing). I’m saying, what is the harm if magneto did counter him? I’m in a p1 alliance so you are definitely playing at a higher level than me but from my perspective, magneto went from being one of the top mutant champions to a champion who is barely used or ranked. I’m pretty sure i’ve heard many youtubers and higher end players acknowledge that magneto is not as relevant for current content and defenders. As far as him countering a cosmic, magneto was never a champion that played into the class wheel so him being good for a cosmic is nothing out of the ordinary for him and nothing out of the ordinary for the game, in general, if you ask me. I feel kabam has been taking magneto out of the game too much to the point where he’s not being used or ranked and i’m starting to see the same thing with nimrod. I understand for the need to add nodes and defenders who don’t get obliterated by the champions but i think there could be a better balance of champions they are good for and not good for so they don’t just get put on the shelf and forgotten. Just my opinion.
Magneto is less popular first and foremost because he's too slow for battlegrounds. He's still pretty popular for war at multiple levels, so I don't really see him as being in trouble. Separately, Magneto not playing nice with the class wheel is a problem. It's not something to be encouraged further. I don't really know how to elaborate further on that, other than the class wheel being how our game is structured and me considering it bad that a character is aimed in entirely the wrong direction within it. Specifically, to answer "so what if you leave him open to Magneto," the problem is the way Mags shuts things down. It's not a small advantage that helps him out. It's a massive confluence of multiple factors that shuts down the opponent without any skill requirement or counterplay. It's just "your stuff probably doesn't work, I take no damage, and once I throw a Sp3, you die." Even worse, most nodes attached to such a character are instantly useless as well, because Magneto turns them off. Now the defender doesn't really change from meta to meta in BGs or from node to node in war. It's just "does the node stop Mags? No? Then it's the exact same fight as everywhere else." Leaving someone open to Magneto destroys so much design work and so much player strategy all at once. To mimic your earlier phrasing, he's all or nothing. There is no in between. It doesn't bother me with Zemo because he's skill, but on a cosmic? It's nothing short of a tragedy.

@GalanValore I don't think you are under standing, she immune to damage , so she will ignore the damage that cull deals. Plus I am probably going to use the kitty cycle so he won't even get to 12+ charges. The plan is to (for now): get my to my sp3 , bait serpent's special in phase to ignore damage and build more power. Throw my sp3 when he has his sp3 or near it. After the sp3 ends I will have phase active for 4 sec > serpent throws his sp3 , I take no damage , now I have 2.2 bars of power. And , cause the sp3 dealt 0 damage serpent is back to a sp2 he has his miss counter, he hits me I am back to my sp3 , I throw it again, and the cycle continues. There are some things that might stop this , but I can only tell that after I fight him 😆

There are some things that might stop this , but I can only tell that after I fight him 😆
@@cyphergaming4580for war you cannot cheese with kitty, Serpant will be Thief tactic defender, this guys gonna stack like crazy invulnerability buffs unless you parry a lot.
@@pikapika3 ahh , yes forgot about the current tactic. 😅
You’re a wonderful and terrible person lol😂! Just pulled the 7
We need to pitch in so this man can pull his own creations
Diablo maybe 🧐
Can't you make him suffer to MagX but be strong against Mag Red 😂, just kidding.
Character looks awesome DLL.
Hahah thanks God that i uninstalled the game last week...this dude is sick with this defenders 😂
I love This child of yours DLL 😅. Not to say I'll love him when fighting him 😂. Knocked it out of the park again.
Welp…gonna have to buy the release bundle now lol
Hey guys…. Before thinking “he’s just an annoying defender” he is a RAMP champ so give him a chance I’ve been using him all day in questing and good god he has so much utility and once he’s ramp he hits like a truck I really think yall should give him a chance
Looks like a more modern Hercules but not as overpowered. Can't wait to get him via the raffle tickets or the arena or crystals
Do you think you guys will tune him up for offense and make changes on his defensive for upcoming changes so far ? Just r3 mines as an attacker he could hit just a little harder, he’s still a menace on defense but even as r2 he still got banned alot lol
Serpent: far and away one of the best options for Spring of Sorrow solos, following being far and away one of the best incursions options
Some of y'all: so offensive buff, yeah?
No, he could not hit a little harder 😂
