Newbie question, but how is it contagious? I have heard someone say that it comes from people feeding deer and the deer eat the feces of other deer and that is how they become sick, is that the only way for them to get CWD or can it be transmitted in other ways? Can it be transmitted to other species of animals? How long have we known about this disease? Is it going to affect people from being able to either feed wildlife, deer etc..and will it affect people from being able to hunt animals. Thank you for the reply.

Is there any evidence that it affects humans if you eat the animal?

There is no evidence that it has affected any humans, but scientists cannot say with 100% certainty that it's impossible. Therefore, to minimize your risk, experts recommend testing deer harvested in known CWD areas and waiting for satisfactory results before eating the venison.
