Thank you for a very interesting walk around a museum that I will probably never have a chance to visit.

Man, I've got a book for you to read! Just finished up the chapter on New Market and the valley campaign. So crazy to know and have been to pretty much every place referenced.

    G'Day from Australia,
Your video brought back memories of our visit to the New Market Battlefield Park and V.M.I. in 1992. It was an awesome experience to retrace the steps of the V.M.I. cadets when they fought at New Market in 1864.
Thanks for your video and for bringing back those memories for us. Have subbed to your channel.
    Cheers,
    Steve

Jordan, my grandson, Zach, your second cousin, gives tours of this museum. I’ve never been but see now it’s a place I’m going to have to visit! Thank you for sharing❤

That’s awesome Aunt Nancy! I didn’t know that… there are a lot of compelling items in there with stories attached. Definitely worth the visit!

@@Majormusket I love that you guys have similar tastes with the civil war history. Zach has a CWP and loves to go shooting. He has taken me to the gun range and I really enjoy it as well. I remember shooting Pa’s muzzleloader as a young girl…it kicked my butt!❤️

Thank you for taking the time to show this museum , the curiosity I have for black powder firearms is insatiable and the American civil war I suppose was the pinnacle of their use . What the people of that time went through must have been horrific . I’ve shot round ball from percussion revolvers , muskets and rifles even a few conicals and I would not like to have been hit with any . I served in the Royal Artillery and I know what it must have been like to face a battery of guns on the battlefield . Canister grapeshot would be my worst fear . What would have been yours standing there in the line .

I’m glad I could share! The civil war is close to my heart for many reasons, including family who fought. Your question is excellent, and required time for thought…My biggest and only fear, whether I was fighting in the civil war, dealing with an active shooter, or even an armed robbery, would be to be taken out of the fight prematurely without the opportunity to take my enemy with me. If we are talking about the weaponry of the time and which way I would least like to go… I’d say getting stabbed. Getting hit with grape shot or a three ring wouldn’t be a lot of fun either, but feeling slow, cold steel penetrate my flesh by being overpowered is a double whammy.

@@Majormusket my family too have their history with the military . Matthew my son is a serving member of the Kings Guards on active service in Kenya . 1st Battalion Irish Guards . Serving your country is important I think and gives you greater insight than if you don’t . Thank you for your service to your country who I for one still see as a friend of UK .
My greatest fear is growing old and feeble , I’m retired but still active and able . I’ve been shot twice , stabbed once and took shrapnel once all of which were not pleasant experiences .

I completely agree with you, but I have to be honest in saying that I have personally never served. My younger years had me pulled in a different direction. That doesn’t mean that my heart is any less for my country, but I can’t take credit for something I’ve never done where other men and women have served and are currently serving. My country is a shadow of what it once was. Corruption and wokeness has infiltrated every long standing institution for safeguarding our country in the US. What is happening is a tragedy, but also an incredible thing. Young and old men alike are banding together across the country to safeguard our freedoms and protect our families in our everyday lives and we won’t stop. I know you are very proud of your son, and it sounds like you have sacrificed a lot for your own country. You have lived your life valiantly, where other men such as myself have fallen short.

@@Majormusket no sir , I don’t think any less of anyone who hasn’t served , it’s that it gives you different look at what’s happening , hell I just saw on the news two of your countrymen threatening civil war if the midterms didn’t go the republican way - OZ was on the lapel badge . The world is going to hell and I don’t have any answers other than stand your ground , don’t compromise on your integrity because once you do your on the slope downwards . I’m not a rich man but I sleep soundly at night . Keep your powder dry and sleep with one eye open 😁👍
