    I love my 10 22s for what they are. You should not compare them with a much older and differently well built 70 year old gun, your talking two very different leagues

    • @Majormusket
      @Majormusket 16 днів тому

      There’s nothing wrong with comparing the quality of the past, with the quality of the present. Though the platforms are different, the outcome is one of repeatable .22 firing capabilities. We should always compare quality of firearms from past to present as a baseline reference.

    Well done! Absolutely beautiful! What time era is it designed after? Years? The reason i ask is i have a 52 caliber with a full stock that has a percussion conversion and im try to figure out what year it might have been built. the barrel is 37 inches long and is held in with brass shims. The brass pieces that hold the ram rod in are tiny pins. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Once again, great job and thanks for sharing.

      @Majormusket 16 днів тому

      I can’t really say off of your description, because we don’t know who has had their hands on it and what all they have swapped out in the process. If you’re convinced that it’s a percussion conversion, it could date pre-1820’s, or just be a later flintlock that got swapped out. I wouldn’t know unless I saw it. There are lots of forums out there that could help you out!

    I have that same muzzle loader that peice of the ram rod turns around and screws on and if you shoot 150 grains you never have to remove it it is a swag for cleaning you just need to read the book that came with the gun I have a cap lock but rarely use it I own 7 break open muzzle loaders and yet to have a problem 😉 been muzzin for 40 years the right bullet is deadly 😉

    UA-cam has it's metaphorical head firmly wedged in it's sphincter. Real is refreshing... you keep doing you! By the way I inherited my Dad's Stevens 87A. It has 5 patents stamped on the barrel but no serial number so it has to be pre 1968. The only difference is that the very front of the stock is painted black.

    Something you may not know. It will not cycle 22 shorts automatically. You load tube and charge it with one shell then push charging handle in and it will shoot. Then you pull out on charging handle releasing it and pull back loading another round. The when you release it yoju push the charging handle back in locking the bolt making it shoot like a single shot. You have to do this on each shell to keep it from malfunctioning. On long and long rifle you can keep the charging handle pulled out allowing for automatic operation .Neat little design feature. Try it.

    A .22 caliber PCP air rifle generates up to about 65 ft-lb energy in the top end models. The Super Colibri generates about 15 ft-lb if reaching rated FPS which I would say is every bit as effective as a pump-up pellet rifle.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 2 місяці тому

      @@BestBBLinHistory They are similar. My example of the PCP air rifle was about the most powerful available in that caliber. There are two Aguila Colibri loads, the Colibri and Super Colibri. The difference is about 170 fps. I know one of those loads is primer-only. The Super might have a pinch of powder, I'm not sure.

      “Smoothrifle” was a term coined in the 18th century regarding a long arm that had all the appointments of a rifle of the time, but with a smooth bore. This was done at the request of a new build, or later bored smooth when rifling had worn out.

    Thanks for such tips. Iam from middle Europe (Czech republic) and Iam just starting with muzzleloading. I already have "normal" firearms for 6 years, but when I started watching videos about blackpowder stuff, I absolutly want to try shooting it by my self. Its kinda dificult to get cheap muzzleloader here 😕 I wanted one with 1:48" barrel twist, but no single gunshop have them in stock... 🙄 or they were very expensive. So I ordered Hawken rifle in .45cal with 1:66" twist rate with set trigger. So, Iam just looking what I will need next 😁

    Good video on these interesting rifles. If you're interested in getting one,be aware that they are addictive. I'm a Winchester guy, but I have 3 gill guns. Ive got a Stevens 87a, a Wester Field (Montgomery Ward) version, and a Savage 6a, the original of this rifle. The Savage has a walnut stock, the other 2 birch. Dating them requires some research, as they were made before 1968 and they don't typically have serial numbers, unless, i think, they were exported.

Everything black so I took some white spray paint put a shot on a piece of scrap paper then rolled a Q tip in the paint, then put a bit on the top back part of front blade. I also tried a bit on each side of rear sights. It helps a lot especially in low light.
