The snap ring on the bottom will rust, just keep an eye on that. I had icon tubular uppers on my tacoma, after about 6 months the snap ring was rusted and started causing pitting on my uniball. I'm from NC and it only snowed/was exposed to road salt once. I have since switched to Total Chaos because they use stainless uniballs.
I had these UCA's for just over 2 years and I have to change the ball-joint, already. That's not awesome news, particularly at the price that these retail for. Plus, greasing the UCA's every 5000km is quite a pain if you do not have a garage. I will be replacing these with an Australian brand; they know how to make quality products, and some of them are maintenance free.
So I understand going DJ over Uniball - but the tube arms aren’t adjustable unless you’re buying some eccentric bushes for the arm. Why didn’t you go billet arms to adjust camber/caster? --I’m asking to learn as by my name you get I am on a solid FR axle, but bought Icon billets UC arms for my ‘12 Rock Warrior & their coilovers to run on a 6” lift. But I’m a full IFS newb - I had a minitruck I converted before it saw a trail. That was 1999. -- Additionally, if you join IH8MUD, you’ll see how we all get great service via Icon - I have their shocks on my FZJ80 w/ 4”+ springs / 35’s I use to flex out on fun-runs.
I just relocated from California to Michigan with my 99 4Runner. I’m having to do a rebuild on my icon UCA (uniball style) How long did the delta joint last? Do you know what’s needed to swap from uniball to delta joint ?
Make sure it goes with your lift kit, I just installed these pieces of shit and it fucked up my camber so bad I couldn't set the toe, literally twisted the tie rods in 100% of the way and was still an inch and a half toe out, just put some stock ones back in and problem gone
How have they been holding up? Any noise or issues so far? Thinking about buying a set for my 4runner and trying to find out as much info as possible before taking the dive. Thanks!
Good afternoon Chris! Pardon the delay in getting back to you in regards to this. These UCA's have performed flawlessly in conjunction with my BP-51 lift since the install ~8,000 miles ago. As you can tell on based on the upload date in the video, these were installed in the middle of the winter here in Michigan, and come spring I found a small amount of what would be the beginning of rust on the actual Delta joint itself. To correct this, I cleaned up the joint and put a thin layer of grease on it. I found out just recently that ICON produces a cover for the joint to protect it from the elements, so I'll surely be adding that prior to the next season. Outside of that, I haven't had any issues with the set. My suspension is very quiet and I've yet to hear and squeaks or rattles thus far. I believe this is a case of if you take care of them, they'll take care of you. Just keep up on greasing the zirks and you should be just fine! I, like most guys, tend to give them a quick greasing after every tire rotation. Best of luck and thanks for watching!
Juan, they're doing very well so far! These were installed about 1,000 miles ago and I haven't heard a peep from them yet. The alignment shop was able to get +4 degrees of caster without beginning to impact the camber. Overall the 4Runner is very stable on the road without any of the tracking or "flighty" issues typically found with lifted vehicles.

Edgar, I spoke to Icon about this and they said you can use a standard marine grease on all of the bushings and the joint. They just emphasized that the grease needs to be waterproof, for obvious reasons. Also, they do make covers for the top of the ICON joints. The ICON part number is #191011 and you can find them on Amazon for ~$45. Mind you this is just going to cover the "non greasable" portion on the top of the control arm, and will just help the appearance over time.

I bought one for my FJ.. did not install it yet.. but I saw in it the bad cheap paint peeling of it and the raw metal expose..
