    Calla Lilies are such beautiful flowers! Because I live in Vancouver, and our winter can get quite harsh therefor we have to dig the bulbs up annually once they die back during fall and replant once first frost has passed... But I guess its worth the effort since they make beautiful and perfect cut flowers!

    Ahh this is what happened to mine after they died back last year. I happened to plant my original in the ground but it struggled (I’m in zone 9b and planted it in full sun) so after a while I took them back out and back into a pot. I thought I had killed them. Fast forward to a couple days ago as I was going to reuse old soil I came across the rhizome. I completely forgot about it. To my surprise it has eyes that are sprouting and now I’m starting to also see new shoots in the area I had initially planted it in-ground. I’m gonna have to dig them out in hopes they will survive these hot temps we are having already. 😍

    I am in zone 9 and yes my calla lily do the same thing!! You can collect the seed and plant them, but I think I like your plan better!! I do have very old very large white callas that my grandmother and mother planted over 50 years ago. I have never seen the few flowers make seed however. I think it is because they are in an area that is too shaded and honestly I don't know the last time they were fed, so I need to take care of that!

    I'm in zone 6B/7A and I keep mines in pots. When it starts to get cold around November and the leaves start to die off, I bring all the pots inside and put them in a dark place or cover them so they're dark. I don't water them, just let them rest until around April when leaves start to poke up through the soil. By the 2nd week in May, I've brought them outside again. Been doing this for about 5 years and they just bloom like crazy!
    I just learned that if you take the flowers off when they start to "die", you can get more blooms. Also, mine are in almost full sun and they bloom like crazy. I'm wondering if you need to divide that pot because those plants look like they're very crowded. I've never saved seeds before but I think I'm going to start doing that.
    Love your channel! BTW

    Thank you sooooo much for this video. We had our first flower last year and it lasted for a few months then the flower started to wilt and it had seeds so I secured the flower to a dried stalk not knowing it was meant to drop to eventually drop the seeds. We live in zone 7 in NY and I had planted the seeds about two inches deeper as the squirrels would dig em up eventho I feed squirrels... I decided to leave em in ground over the winter and so far this summer we now have two flowers of different colors. What slow release fertilizer do you recommend? Thanks again its super appreciated 😊 Eddie J.

    • @auyannaplants
      @auyannaplants  3 роки тому

      Yay! You are so welcome. This plant is very rewarding. It is dropping so many seeds for us. At the beginning of spring when I see them emerge from the soil we use a 10-10-10 slow release fertilizer since they are in our front garden. If you have them in your vegetable garden then I love using plant tone. It is an organic slow release fertilizer. Thank you so much for watching!

    If you want free Calla Lilies just come to Callafornia, this plant which is native to South Africa grows like a weed here and it is classified as an invasive species, you can find it growing on the sides of roads or beaches or wherever and it's not illegal to remove invasive species from public land. By the way they are called Zantedeschias by botanists and I like that name much more than Calla Lily because so many people here in California think they are called that because they're from here. They do not need garden soil and can grow in rock or sand which is why they are taking over roadsides, because they are native to rocky and sandy areas in South Africa. And you can do something cool, because they are from the southern hemisphere you can put seeds in the fridge right now and take them out in a month, grow them in your house, and get flowers in December when it's the middle of summer in South Africa. You can actually do this trick with almost all South African plants and some from South America, try it and impress your friends.

    I live in Southern CA and was gifted a small 8" pot of the classic white calla lily's. So far I only have 3 flowers with big stiff bulbs. They haven't dropped yet, but my question is how do I collect those seeds when and if they drop if they're in a pot? I live in an apt so I plan on leaving it in a pot, repotting it over time

    I pruned my cala lillies already but what I will do because I have to white bushes that are huge is divide them and spread them around the yard in the fall after the green foliage dies down. It's good to do so every 3 to 5 years so the plant isn't over loaded in the same spot if theirs limited space. I have to tey the seeding method next year and refuse to cut back dying blooms to keep the plant looking nice I just can't help myself sometimes.

    Just received a yellow calla lily for my birthday. The flowers are dying back and stems they are on seem to be drooping. First of all, I had to re-pot because the pot was way too small. I'm in zone 4 so will be taking the plant inside come fall. My question: Because it is so young, should I just snip the dying flowers? Or snip the stem they are on as well?

    • @auyannaplants
      @auyannaplants  2 роки тому

      I don't snip anything. I let the plant die back naturally. Once everything is dried up, I clean around the plant and when they begin to sprout the next year, I give them a slow release fertilizer and let them start to grow. Hope this helps and thank you so much for watching!
