- Hello everyone,
With LMMons over, it was time to go home.
The others had already disappeared, and as I was heading home past a railway, it would be rude not to call in wouldn't it?
For more information on the Apedale Railway, have a look at their website here: avlr.org.uk/

It is nice to see that you are making good use of your Reliant & going to various places. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the wide variety of locomotives & rolling stock @ the Gala and I look forward to seeing where you go next a what vehicle you travel in.
Glad you enjoyed it! Lots more with the Reliant coming up!
Lovely camera work as ever. Loved the little car show 😅. Also great to see the engines their from statfold!
Thank you very much. It was a super day out!
Nice variety of locomotives and rolling stock. The video quality is like always great, but the audio is stunning. I could heard all the various noise which are missing from my model layout (even with sound decoders).
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Wide selection of trains, all with their own roles, & you managed to extend your holiday to, great work Lawrie!
Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
We appear to be cursed. It often rains when we visit Apedale for a Gala... It was, however, great fun and a brilliant day.
Yep. Good fun though
My eyes needed this to wash away all the horrors of this day.
Thank you!
Pleased to be of assistance
LOL. Perhaps next year you will bring a raincoat :D Third time's the charm ;) Thanks for this video, Lawrie :) I always LOVE seeing narrow gauge railway content :) And it was great to finally see GP39 in action.
You're welcome. Lovely line - if a tad wet!
Excellent selection of locomotives and rolling stock. Is a place that is on my must visit list one day.
It is well worth a visit
Nice one Lawrie, I've never heard of this place I'll have to give it a visit.
It's well worth a trip!
Thanks again for a very nice video. Good quality video thanks
You're most welcome!
I must re visit this railway again as I did enjoy it the last time I visited.
It's really quite super!
Love seeing all this different variety in one place
It's fantastic isn't it
This is what I was really hoping for; another outing on the Apedale Valley Light Railway. The sheer variety of locomotives, rolling stock and liveries made me realize what I was missing by writing off narrow gauge railways entirely, and I'm glad that you've brought attention to it- so many people focus on the standard gauge stuff, and while it's great that we have so much standard gauge stuff in preservation, I also think they don't know what they're missing on the narrow gauge lines. I'm sure the railways you've visited are glad that you're bringing attention to narrow gauge preservation.
Pleased to hear you enjoyed it! It was a great event!
I had an old Peugeot Partner some years ago. And that blue thing make almost the same noises.
Oh really?
Hi Lawrie, at work in September on a blazing hot day we had a volunteer day and regraded the incline down the embankment near the depot. Really enjoyable day and will be getting in touch soon to get more involved!
Yes I saw it had changed! Very good work - it's a great place to be part of.
Great video like always
Thank you
A very enjoyable video.. By the way, those ends are knocking quite bit now.
It's not really got any worse since we started.
Makes noise under load.
legend has it trev was kidnapped by lawrie himself XD
It has happened on occasion.
@@lmm 😳🤣
If this day was ment to demostrate rush hour on railway, yes, it was perfectly done! I judge this video as the best of last few months. Probubly because I'm not so interested in that pile of crap on wheels as much as in railways and trains and diesel and steam locomotives. Thank You
They just put on a very intense timetable. It's well worth a visit for one of their special events.
Sorry you haven't been enjoying LMMons.
Need more Quarry Hunslet action 👌
Yes, yes we do
Great video of an interesting railway. A question. Why do Simplex locomotives have the radiator at right angles to the direction of travel?
I think to eliminate the difference in cooling going forward and backwards.
I believe that's it. They don't go fast enough to really get the effect of air being forced through it either.
One just has to enjoy life!
Pretty much!
It looks like a very interesting place to visit, but at 29:19 it seems like they don't like motorhomes at the Apedale Railway.
It's a really super place!
Legend has it that Lawrie still does not know where Trev is.
The legend is true!
Lawrie, is that the same GP 39 we saw at your last tour of the Statfold Barn Roundhouse/indoor collection?
Yes, yes it is!
Great video, but how did they not put 104 and GP39 together? The nearest they got was being about 4 metres away from each other in the yard. Even if they couldn’t be put together on a train, surely they must’ve been able to park them next to each other?
I think they did a photo charter for that.
@@lmm Ah, nice.
Wet? You need a silver anorak with LMM on the back ;p
That's not a terrible idea actually.
Does that Reliant have a knock or is that just the way it sounds? 😂
I honestly don't know.
I fear a knock
@@lmm I feel you on that one... My old '97 SAAB has been showing its age with a faint knock lately. But with the Reliant being a more unusual car I'd still think theres a chance that's just how it sounds normally. Some cars just sound strange to begin with, you know what I mean? Hahaha
i don't feel bad to watch it but are you also shipping materials for repairs locations with the trains? or more for the fun driving in circles?
The freight was just for demonstrations
12:45
Yes?
I wonder what happened to Trevor!
Do did we!
New social media game where's trev. People are to post whenever they see a blue Suzuki swift.
I'll get it printed on milk cartons!
It's sad that the trains are actualy just preforming Color guard and not actualy carrying freith apart from pasanger. A Locomotive is only as usefull as you make it. There are definitly odd jobs to do for they's oldys. The steamers i mean. Make them electric instead of coal ore wood burning and they are even Eco Friendly.
Steam locomotives only produce 1% of the global emissions so aren't as bad as it seems. Some of the narrow gauge railways are in fact trialling bio coal. The issue with turning all of the engines electric is that you loose the character of these historic pieces of engineering and to charge them would take ages. Plus even though the locomotives are only carrying passengers they are useful for attracting tourists to the different places across the UK and even the world and people do come to the railways for the sights, sounds and smells of the past.
I am a volunteer at the Severn Valley Railway and I have suggested that to improve emissions and reduce coal consumption on all loco's is by not converting the locomotives to electricity but have a specially made or convereted carriage which has batteries and a electric motor bogie set to help push the locomotives when they go up the gradients which means that they don't need to burn more coal when going up a gradient. The diesel's on our line can easily be switched to a bio diesel at some point in the future as the British freight company GB railfreight are trialling it and they do store quite a few of their historic class 50 locomotives at the SVR. We are also currently building a hydrogen powered shunter in conjunction with a university, which utilises a old class 08 diesel shunter that was going to be used for spares and never used again.
The railway isn't big enough to actually carry freight in a meaningful way.
Demonstrating the kind of trains they would have pulled is very important.
Currently electricity isn't viable to run a steam locomotive.
frst
it appears you where second
Good show
