I would also like to add that the term “intelligentsia” was often used by dictators to describe the part of the population who had enough education and knowledge to question their ideas and lead a structured opposition. They were often the first targets of censorship, to cut the apparence of any criticism. The use of the term is also a way to include intellectuals who disagree with your ideology with the out group, the enemies of the people. It’s really ironic to see people who see communism and socialism as the devil using the word in this way…

I just paused the video and noticed that this dude wrote that Hitler rose to power because communists were too mean. It's "look what you made me do" applied to Nazis. And he made the claim in the context of boasting about how extensively he researches his topics. Good lord, this guy. What a piece of work.

And just to be clear about the history here: the truth is exactly the opposite of this. The German right and the moderate left got together to successfully crush the communists in the years prior to the rise of Hitler. They accepted extreme authoritarian violence against anyone suspected of association with communism. That created a whole population of extremists who were used to violence in politics. The Nazis grew out of, and built on, that history of right-wing extremism at a time when communism was politically marginalized in Germany. In short it was the WEAKNESS of communism that helped to make the rise of Hitler possible (among many other factors).

Equality means everyone has the same rights and are presented with the same choices/opportunities, regardless of skin, gender or other.
@Nineonine i have never heard a woman calling either of those things a "mans job". not saying no woman ever has, but it's just not a thing i hear (granted most of the women i know are feminists). the only people i ever hear calling anything a "mans job" or a "womans job" are people who dont want women to have certain jobs, and if you blame the lack of women in male-dominated fields solely on women "not wanting to do mens work" you really need to understand just how difficult and uncomfortable it can be for a woman to enter a job where she knows she'll be the only woman.
things are improving, though. just in terms of plumbing, there was a 70% increase in female plumbers between 2017 and 2018, so im confident that as society becomes more equal, the gender ratios of most jobs will eventually even out.

I think it makes sense. The right wing people that i (unfortunately) interact with irl literally do not have the basic level of curiosity to seek information themselves. To them, "googling" something is just searching youtube to see what Carl of Swindon or Ben Shapiro has to say on the matter. Then they just repeat that. To be fair it requires barely any effort on my part to push back because all I have to do is check what tucker carlson said in the last couple days, and gee whaddayaknow, almost verbatim, the argument i heard. All you have to do is barely expand the topic beyond what Tucker et al say, and they can't keep up. Its why using words like "neoliberalism" to explain a broader topic/issue seems like some fake big brain thing leftists do. They cannot even keep up because they have no broader knowledge than what is implanted into their brains.
I grew up in a very right wing area. They are taught from childhood to seek answers to questions by going to perceived authority figures who just program them to not think about things at all. This has nothing to do with intelligence or the bullshit metric of "IQ." It has everything to do with training people from an early age not to seek information for themselves.
Or also that, who knows, sometimes creators or media outlets aren’t targeting the viewer who is most unfamiliar with the subject matter and instead targeting people who are already interested and immersed in it, even to some extent. He was making these weird assertions about how not defining terms means the audience won’t know what it means. Hey bro, some of us read…we know what it means. Way to infantilize audiences in general.

Having Andrew read the lines sounds so strange. He's got such a distinctive voice that I associate with good takes about anarchism, my brain can't handle this. The awkward part of this whole thing is that Novara Media is a British News platform and mainly covers British politics. They are not primarily video essayists.
So why on earth does ThinkBeforeYouSleep think that a News outlet would be giving the definitions of political ideologies every time they reference them?
The Guardian frequently mentions neoliberalism but doesn't give definitions in every article because they are working on the idea that their audience is familiar with these terms.
Mentioning political jargon without definitions is incredibly commonplace for News outlets.

It really seems like the "it was just a joke" crowd are all clones of each other because on my 18th birthday my stepfather was giving me advice i didn't want that basically boiled down to "be mysogynistic like me" and at the end he groped me while telling me to "use it well" and my mom was on his side because "it was just a joke"

What's so funny is that they assume that if they could be a stay at home-husband they would be complaining about that cause they gotta do all of the housework. Taking care of the kids, dishes, cleaning, cooking, all of that. Definitely a lot easier to be working at a job where, yes, the boss might be rude, but at least your shift ends. The shift of a stay at home wife or husband never ends
And there are no days off from taking care of kids and housework. Even when you're an-inch-from-death-sick, the kids still need to eat and the litter boxes have to get cleaned no matter what.
You don't get paid, you don't get vacations, you don't get time off. It's a 24/7 on call job. And a lot of folks don't appreciate the pressure that puts on the person doing that job. It's not "fun".
And he'll never know, because he's so repugnant and intentionally abrasive that no one wants to have a cohesive family unit with him.

If people want to stay home, if it's their choice then whatever. But I will still say this: you never know when said partner brining home the money might die, or cheat, or become abusive etc. Then what? You're left with no money, no job etc.
It is a risk I never was willing to take: and I advise people to get a job, be independent.....
Also I can pull my own weight just fine, along with my partner's. I've proven it many times. Again, gender barely matters if you're a capable, caring human being with brains.

I don't understand where people get the whole "Long time spent work = good work" bullcrap from. Good script writing involves a lot more than just fact checking, there has to be some level of brevity, because that is itself a skill worth learning as a content creator. Very few people are gonna slog through a 146 minute video essay when the guy they're debunking sounds like Alvin the Chipmunk huffed Sulfer Hexafluoride.

I think that the anger you’re asking about can be partially answered by thinking about how it feels to cope with something important in your life that never goes away.
No matter how often someone feels a temporary sense of control by trashing other people or directly declaring oneself better than others, things remain unresolved and possibly even worse than before.
These angry folks don’t have to be closeted in the way that you were to still be coping with _something_ in their lives that they can’t get rid of but don’t know how to actually do anything about due to outright denial or maybe a social pressure to misunderstand and therefore deny.
They probably have something that is genuinely angering them in their life, and b/c they waste time on stuff that will never address any number of complex needs (such as becoming independent from obsolete narrow-minded and frankly impossible to fulfill social standards) that they’re going through, the source of anger has nowhere to go but into a spiral.
oh a surprising number of these dudes are probably closeted for sure. gay dudes can actually be extremely redpilled even after coming out .. so many of them HATE women

If I remember correctly, he tried to use this "bUT iTS OuT oF ConTExt" argument with Ludwig, but I had already seen the entire video he was referring to when Hasan had reacted to it, and it changed nothing. Trimming out unnecessary bits of a video when making a counter doesn't automatically mean your points are being taken out of context. When making commentary videos there will be plenty of moments that are not integral to the point being made.
This will probably actually help TBYS in many aspects. He's actually growing out of being red pill, and stuff like this helps, and I'm all for the evolution. It'll take time, but i see him doing it, and it's better than the 180 tate and Sneako did.
This is what TBYS does for most, if not all, of his videos. He ignores what people actually say to impose what he thinks they're saying on them, as well as ascribing motivations (and mental illness) on them as well. And his fans don't call him out because he's saying what they want to hear (which boils down to "'woke' people, people doing things you don't like or understand, are mentally ill and will be miserable later in life").

can confirm: hours worked doesn't necessary mean a better product. Its a noticed trend in work places around the world that those places with fewer working hours and more frequent breaks (like France) actually have equivalent or better productivity then countries where people work longer hours (like Japan). You rest more so that when you do actually work, that work is higher quality.
I have experienced this first hand, where in the times where I was working 8-9 hours every single day (including weekends), my productivity actually hit the fucking ground. Despite spending so much time working, my work wasn't actually getting done to a reasonable level in an appropriate amount of time. I would spend 6 hours looking for a single bug, (not a particularly hard bug to diagnose either, it was pretty routine), but because my brain was a pile of stressed mush I couldn't perform at my normal level. Which, naturally, meant that I fell farther behind and needed to work more to keep up which resulted in me not getting the rest I needed to work which meant the entire situation persisted for far longer then it should have. Thankfully, this was all school work, so the only consequence was that I had to retake that course. Because despite all the work I put in, regardless of how much effort I was putting forth no matter how stressed and burnt out I was at the end of it all, I still failed that class. Time spent != quality.
Further, if you've already done the work to produce something and you are happy with it, spending another two hours on it isn't going to change anything. I've also done that before. I would finish an essay or something in a relatively short amount of time and feel like I should put in more time on it to polish it. However, because I was personally satisfied with my work, every time I read through it I would hesitate to change anything. So I would spend hours more on something and make no improvements. Instead of spending that time being productive elsewhere or resting I wasted it by working on something that was already finished. That's another thing you have to learn at some point: the returns you get from working on something degrade over time. If you are writing a 5 page essay, then there likely won't be much of a difference between spending 20 hours on it and 100 hours. Just because you spent 100 hours on it doesn't mean that you're going to produce a Pulitzer prize winning essay on how whales are important to their ecosystem. By the 100th hour, that essay is probably going to look very similar to the essay at the 20th hour, even if you scrap it and start over, the level of quality is probably going to be about the same. (obviously, your mileage will vary; some people can crank out great essays in 2-3 hours, others need 50 hours, but regardless, you'll eventually reach a point where its worthless to keep working on it.)
All this to say: "1 hour scripts? yeah sure, if that's how long it took then that's how long it took"

From what I can tell he is a pretty good advocate for a lot of current progressive ideals. is he perfect? obviously not, no one is. you have to engage with his content critically but that is true for Noah as well. I'm debating if I should just unfollow all political channels and focusing my time and energy on something I can do or simply creative work and tutorials. Introspection and awareness of problems that exist outside of us are important, I just don't see how this does the job of anything else than fueling the morbid curiosity of people who just want to consume more yt drama. I dunno what to do at this point.
I see your point and agree that it sometimes just devolves to useless drama.
But, like with any debate, I do find it interesting to see how each side responds to the criticism. It also becomes very entertaining when one side is clearly messing up and spouting bs.

So while I am going to explain the value of videos like these later in this comment, it occurred to me that the thing you need above all else is access to channels who focus on activism. And I say that b/c you are asking for something to do with the energy you have rather than spending time in spaces absorbing the energy and potential confidence of people who are displaying word-fight techniques.
*Andrewism* has that content, but another channel that might address your needs more is *Beau of the Fifth Column*
His associated channel, *The Roads with Beau* gets into some of the most concrete & practical day to day concerns of activism like hurricane relief, while his main channel is about staying clear-headed despite a media landscape designed to agitate & enthrall folks into heightened emotions.
Another channel that might be your speed is *PLN* (Positive Leftist News), since it’s all about the international successes of activist organizations & causes.
(If you’re wondering why I don’t have a huge list of activism channels or anything… I believe that’s b/c activism is probably very difficult to present on UA-cam but is easy to present in emails. So most activists that could hypothetically be on UA-cam are busy writing emails and other local organizing type stuff instead)

There is always going to be an audience of people that feel anxious about how online bad-faith & antagonistic propaganda feels impossible to address with sincerity.
Videos like these are here to address anxieties by showing that sincerity doesn’t have to be a boring & alienating process of dry corrections and perpetual clarifications on stuff that was clearly only there to waste time.
One of many alternative response strategies is to have fun while leading by example. A form of teaching entry-level logic skills and applying it to propaganda to diffuse various different “cult of strength” strategies.
The risk of drama is obviously there, but if the format takes the time to teach about how drama works, then it’s significantly lessened.
Debate spheres highly disincentivize teaching how drama works since speed & brevity color a lot of audience participation. And video essayists are not uniquely rewarded for teaching how drama works nor especially penalized for failing to explain it well.
To zoom out even further though, there is an additional layer of frustration that comes from the fact that political discussion is a niche topic that generates less social media promotion if there’s no spectacle. Currently spectacles like drama & agitation-propaganda are a driver of ad revenue, and as a result, social media will favor spectacle long before it promotes the constructive dynamic you deserve.
Now despite telling why your frustration is justified & this video is valuable to somebody else, understanding this stuff obviously doesn’t actually _do anything_ aside from 1) mitigate the damage of right-wing propaganda 2) boost the morale of some vulnerable people.
So maybe it can help to think of where you are at as being stuck in the pitfalls of the first step for folks who gain the confidence to get outside the UA-cam sphere.
I think you want to end up somewhere close to or a part of groups of people who want to stand united behind a common cause of acceptance & human dignity by delivering food & water to the hungry or to the protesters or to the local board meetings so that people can feel safe enough to show up & act offline.
Yes I most definitely am having this issue. Like this situation with Shark3ero at the moment, being accused of simping for white supremacy because he didn't get 100% behind Professor Flower's and Kat Blaque when they were clashing with Vaush. Shark spends most of his time making videos that are bashing Conservatives and before he knows it he's being accused of being a self hater for having an opinion on a UA-cam drama. I don't even like Vaush, I just don't think Shark should be hounded over this.
Similarly after I got home from a Brianna Ghey vigil earlier this year, after witnessing a huge turnout in my small city with so much solidarity, I got home and found out Keffals, Vaush and Hasan are having a go at Jessie Gender for asking to use a different hashtag for Brianna Ghey than #sayhername, which is hardly asking for the world especially as that one doesn't even mention Ghey or trans issues, let alone because it has been used previously.
But it's this kind of stuff all the time now and it dominates the conversation and just shows the left to be constantly infighting whilst our rights are being stolen from us.
So yeah I absolutely do feel drama content is a waste of time most of the time.
I would agree but as someone who doesn't like this content, I wouldn't have put this much effort into a comment. Just don't watch it, that's what I do.
If it burns you out, yes stop watching. These videos have their own value politically, even drama ones.
