People complaining about the price is because you're thinking of it as eating instead of an experience. If you go to a concert and get VIP tickets, then you get to meet your favorite artist and it's an experience. Sure you can listen to the music at home but you pay the hundreds of dollars for the experience.

People complaining about the price don't know how many worker's salaries he's paying every month to be able to offer that menu

@@francescoghizzo He's paying pretty much nothing in salaries, at least in the kitchen. Alinea is notorious in the industry for relying extensively on cooks doing stages (unpaid internships effectively) and paying their actual staff very little.

I took my mom here for her 60th birthday. It's in the top 3 experiences of my life. We had such a spectacular time. Every time I reminisce the memory, I almost always cry.

I think it's more about the art than the food. It makes the food itself almost secondary to the experience.
It's about the performance. So in a way he's not selling food. He's really selling art that you can eat.

I enjoyed a $800.00 dollar meal with my wife a few years back but there was one underlying taste in each dish we did not like, but kept tasting it. I now know why. It was the fall menu kind of a bitter ginger like taste

I understand what hes saying. He obviously sees making food as more than a means to survival, but rather an experience to indulge oneself in. Hes trying to understand the art of making food, whilst striving for perfection in terms of creating the perfect taste. I get it. Food doesnt simply just taste good & this is the thought process that can be attributed. I respect that, but i still think hes coming off as a little prententious & that hes perhaps still overthinking it.
Eating such food for me is still a simplistic source of pleasure, its momentary, it doesnt last. So just dont make it taste that bad & im happy. But not everybody is me, so i still respect him & the people hes targeting

Y Saleem If you were successful at an art, would you perform or create that art for $25? No, because you know that people would pay more because you are successful and in high demand. His prices are justified because he is a successful chef that creates a delicate and fine art. You’re not going there for a quick bite. You are going there to experience artistic endeavors. He’s a highly valued chef and it makes a lot more sense to sell his art for what it’s worth rather than cheapening it for the masses.

I'm sorry, but everytime a chef come up with some "weird" way of presenting food, I wonder what he/she is hiding. If your food tastes good, you don't need theatrics to get people to your restaurant/bistro/café.

Its working for him.' Alinea you literally have to buy a ticket two months in advance cause they go quickly. I tried getting a reservation for March for my bday and it was booked solid.Like that is two months away. So I tried getting a ticket at ' Next' And would not be able to get one til later in that month or early April. Oh well. Perfectly happy with just getting sushi anyway lol

    Hat he is basically saying,
Meal 1 goes through a 10 hour cooking process.
Meal 2 is ordered from the local McDonald's.
Meal 3 is a 300 year old receptive.
Meal 4 is delivered by Pizza Hut.
Meal 5 is ice cream from the local ice cream van.
Meal 6 is a world famous dish.
Then you throw up for the final low point.
Then you get KFC, very good.
