That was just pure bliss from start to finish. It's the note choices that are so wonderful. Even when he goes a little "out", every line is so musical and coherent. I've given up trying to decide which video is my favorite--everything is does is an absolute delight. Wow.

Hai tutto: gusto, tecnica da vendere, velocità supersonica usata con eleganza ma hai soprattutto passione ed umiltà. Sei un fenomeno e un vanto per noi musicisti italiani.
My mind is blown, this is staggeringly good, the tone, the superb phrasing, and the many nods to past greats show the depth of his musical knowledge. Wonderful performance!
Matteo is my new favorite online musician. He's so good that I don't even try to kid myself that I could ever play like him. I just appreciate his musical brilliance with wonder. A true natural.
All the hype is very, very real. I been playing for 38 years, had a very successful music career, and I can fkng SMOKE a fretboard in several genres. This guy is absolutely incredible. It inspires me so much.
So, if you completely put aside the technical ability, that phrasing and note choice in the relatively restrictive context of a 3-chord blues, is pretty mind blowing for someone so young. I have been playing for over 37 years (and I'm only 44) and most of that time has been spent playing the blues. While I am fairly proficient with my touch, my bends and my fretting, I cannot come anywhere CLOSE to that kind of musicality in terms of note choice. This sounds so fresh while many blues players sound so recycled. Amazing man, really.
I disagree entirely with your assessment, in fact his composition/musicality is what is most lacking. Al di Meola said it best, "But [what] he doesn't have yet - he's not a composer. Everything he's playing in these videos, wow. But it's against any music. How is that gonna fit in the music?" The answer, it just doesn't, almost nothing he plays is memorable from a musical standpoint. I can hum several Clapton, Hendrix, Srv or Duane Allman licks and you instantly know who that lick belongs to, this isn't a thing with Matteo.

@@ugosmith7529 Hi ugosmith! Well...I disagree with your criticism of Matteo Mancuso. To me , everything he plays is memorable from a musical standpoint. His phrasing is his own. I've played guitar for 60 years. I can play anything Clapton , Hendrix , Srv or Duane Allman ever did. So many guitarists can , after decades of study. Few if any can play like Mancuso , which is why his popularity is on the rise. He is young , and the best is yet to come.
His bending, attack, vibrato are drenched in authentic blues but then he takes it into the stratosphere ... because he can. All of his chops and technical innovations are put to purely musical use. I would love to here Matteo and Clapton play together. I heard him solo on Donna Lee and he's also mastered the bebop language playing through changes. These genres are probably ones he has visited and absorbed like a sponge (while others devote a lifetime to mastering them). But his master stroke is to take all these styles and approaches and meld them into a visionary spear that penetrates into the future while deeply respecting the history that preceded him.
Perfectly put. You get it. You have the self-awareness I believe most in the Comments lack. I suspect when it’s time to stop searching UA-cam for shredders and listen to some music for music’s sake they won’t be thinking about Mancuso at all. @@johnnysilverhand1733 Well, I absolutely love the two Sonny's on After Hours - probably my favorite tenor battles on that album with Dizzy (I knew Sonny Stitt a bit and I talked to him about that session). But I think you may have missed the mark on what this young guy has to offer - he's extremely musical - much more than an ego-driven shredder. I don't think he's trying to be the next B.B. King on this - I don't think he wants to be. He's much more than a technician, which is for me what a lot of the fusion guitar players are - not to mention the Heavy Metal crew. Often the greats of old hold a special place in our hearts - they can't be replaces and shouldn't be. Just because Mancuso also explores the bebop language doesn't mean he's the next Bird either - that territory has already been covered. This guy, though, is opening a path into the future and I have nothing but respect for what he's doing.

Amazing like always Matteo!!! I’ve discovered this guy about 6 years ago or so, and as a guitar player myself, to Matteo is the best guitar player in the world, at least to me who have played for almost 40 years and have listened to tons of guitar players in every genre (Wes Montgomery, Steve Vaï, Larry Carlton, Paco DeLucia, Allan Holdsworth, Joe Satriani, Lee Ritenour, Steve Lukather, etc...), But Matteo is the new generation and to me he’s above all of the other one in this generation, all of them!
I totally agree with you. In a flooded field full of online players he totally rises above the rest. He's my new favorite. A lot of times we fall into the trap of being impressed with technical novelty. Well, Matteo's got that but he's also a musician, not just a guitar player, of the highest order. Any of those great players you mentioned would nod their heads to this guy.
To say he is better than Holdsworth is a stretch. Holdsworth, IMO, is a once in a century genius. That said, Matteo is among the best of the best. I would love to see him do a project with Jacob Collier.

You again. My post is from 9 months ago. Lately, I bother because I keep getting replies from folks like you to my old posts:) ... Mancuso's talent is incredible. That's obvious. I simply object to what I see as the conflation as a reaction of shock to his technical prowess with assertions that the music is some sort of Coltrane-esque spiritual experience. If you play the instrument and you cant get off on watching this kid play you got a screw loose. Matteo is not only incredibly gifted...the kids got HEART! YOU CAN'T BUY THAT SHIT! So many soulless shredders out there these days....its freekin' boring. Can't wait to see what the future holds for you Matteo, and can't wait to see you play live. Thanks for pushing the envelope. Watching you flip the current finger style "masters" worlds upside down has been most enjoyable!
This whole passage is right out of the Robben Ford play book. Incredible. Wow.
Yup, Misdirected Blues !
Way more chops than Robben…similar Jazz based bluesy lines but more virtuosity.
Sorry, but Robben is wayyy better. This guy has zero soul. I'm not moved in the least.
@@Geotubest I absolutely feel the soul in his playing. I would suggest that if you think there is zero soul, it is because you can't hear/feel it, not because it is not there. I am a huge Robben Ford fan, but also know that music is not a competition.
@@Geotubest I love Robben but this kids chops blow Robben out of the water And he is 45 years younger.
That was just pure bliss from start to finish. It's the note choices that are so wonderful. Even when he goes a little "out", every line is so musical and coherent. I've given up trying to decide which video is my favorite--everything is does is an absolute delight. Wow.
Another guy with a cosmic gift, exceptional technique of the right hand, you get the impression that he doesn't touch the strings.
It is always a pleasure to watch and listen to this guy.
Matteo adapts to different music Genre/styles so easily. Phenomenal guitarist!!
Spettacolo allo stato puro. Oserei definirlo uno dei migliori chitarristi al mondo.

I'm certainly glad this young man didn't miss his calling, I could listen all day.

By far the best well rounded player ive seen..just a fab player to watch in action..
Matteo is my new favorite online musician. He's so good that I don't even try to kid myself that I could ever play like him. I just appreciate his musical brilliance with wonder. A true natural.
Please share your Helix patches with us mortals Matteo, your playing is on another level but let us fail with a good sound at least.

@@MatteoMancusoofficial Fantastic Matteo! Can we get the backing track link as well? Thanks!
Unfortunately, as of now. he isn’t the second coming of Coltrane, Hendrix, or any of their ilk. Just a technician for the moment. Let’s wait and see.
@@a.s.2426 No, he's already more than a technician - that's why I'm excited by him while most of the others leave me cold.

Agree, so much Robben Ford here in general. For me there is the blues before Robben Ford and the blues after Robben Ford.
A lifetime of learning there, crammed into a few sweet 12bar measures. Incredible!

Really? Please explain.

For me, it's definitely not the latter and I think, as I said, that many conflate the former for the latter in the heat of their enthusiasm.

Makes me wonder where guitar is going to be in another 40 years. Amazing talent. Pretty sick how articulate his fast phrases are using fingers as opposed to pick. Apparently picks add much more noise to the guitar than I ever realized. Noise that simply isn't present in his technique. Awesome stuff. Almost machine like, but with great feel.
“Machine like” is not exactly complimentary. But I would agree
Does it matter where “guitar is going to be” in the future? What matters to me is artistic expression, spiritual transformation now. And on that score Mancuso doesn’t have it (yet).
