As I mentioned below Skanks and DB would be on that skip list, Upper Animal to Lower G or Fence line would have been more appropriate, guide or friend.

I work as a guide and I was thinking the same at the first minute...I never ever would take a first lap with a guy and lost him in the first 10 meters of trail or ride so fast the guy is 100% to keep in contact with me. But every human has a day...you know...You can´t loose the focus on the people,I prefer to be 100% cautious and never get a chance to someone get hurt.

As someone who has been sponsored in the automotive world, only support products you believe in. You are as valuable to them as they are to you. Sometimes companies who support you produce something that’s not 100%. It’s on you to tell them so they can correct it. And I can tell you right now if my front fork squealed like that I would be chatting with the sponsor ASAP. I’ve ridden many different forks and NONE of them make that noise. Suntour needs to make that right. But I would have soured on that ride as well, it did not end on a high which happens but still sucks. Your ridding is super solid, I would have scoped those drops out as well.

yourMTBguide that fork on by bike is a 600$ fork that has more tech to it than a fox 36 performance. Not everything has to have a well known name to be an excellent component.

That was the most amazing thing to see. I love the speed and the scenery. Years ago, I used to take my dog on hikes up there. It was hot and I was out of shape (as usual), but both the dog and I really enjoyed it. Brings back great memories.
Really love your channel Eric (and Yuka!). Very down to earth. You're obviously an expert rider but aren't afraid to show your human side and that even you work sections or just plain get discouraged like the rest of us mere mortals. Glad you both are safely back from Mexico winter tour and look forward to more videos as you move northward and back home!
I watch quite a bit of pov mountain biking and it's really refreshing to see someone with the same fears I have. I need to improve my confidence but I can really relate to this.
Yeah I've ridden technical trails blind with riders that are intimately familiar. I'm often left feeling robbed...rushing trail features. It's kinda like scarfing down a 30$ steak without tasting it.
Let me set the scene. It’s 1:53am I’m waking up at 7am to ride, I’m already getting myself in the mindset after working on my bike all night, I shower and drink some milk with cookies before bed, but before I go to sleep I have to watch one of Eric or Yukas videos for confidence and this 2 year old video was recommended before I even searched it. Here I am, enjoying the riding.
The sound your hearing is there rebound circuit in the fork and it's completely normal. I'm pretty used to it already, but it's definitely a little louder than other forks on the market!
I like your clips so much. It's totally fine to hesitate and take it slow if you've never ridden a feature. Crashed wildly last year attempting something I should've inspected first.
Good stuff @BCpov. Bummed things went a little sour. But your *look before you leap* approach is def appropriate for those Simi trails. Kudos for keeping it real and showing your hikes. I did a version of your ride with Curtis Keene leading the group and didn't have the chance to session anything...definitely hiked some stuff. Next time!
You seem really down towards the end and with good reason... What kind of guide rushes you down a techy trail blind? I believe a guide is to keep you safe by showing the lines up ahead and talking you through them...not by showing how good or fast he is. I would never hire a guide like that. Thank you for sharing.
To do that many runs up there is pretty tough. Just to get up to where you start to descend is tough. From where you get dropped off...you still have to schlep up a fairly steep climb. BC had to have been tired by the time they did the last run. None of those trails up there are easy by any stretch of the imagination. To have never been up there and to do that many runs...is pretty darn good.

FWIW I literally just rode w Scott. I hired him for a 3 hour rip and it was more fun than I’ve had on a bike in ages. Can’t recommend him enough. He coached me over some of the rowdiest stuff I’ve ever hit and encouraged me when I needed to take the chicken lines. I hope the tone of this vid doesn’t hurt his business. I’m a better rider for going out with him.

Good on ya! for sampling some Simi gnar! I live there and looks like you had fun minus the guide and his rush run!! It's a mountain bike haven here and as a local, I ride some hidden gems very nearby, that are not on the radar and offer everything from mellow to gnar. Rocky Peak is awesome and we have more hidden goodness! Simi has tons of trails if you know where to ride!
Bummer it went the way it did for you. As a former rock climbing and white water canoe guide, guiding is so much more than just knowing the trail, the route, or the river. It's knowing your client and not just trying to showoff for the camera.
Next time try some of the awesome trails up on Mt Wilson: Chilao, Mt. Hillyer, Darkside Silver Mocassin, Gabrielino, Sunset, El Prieto... Chris from Mt. Wilson MTB Adventure does shuttling for single and all day rides.
Hmmm...buddy seems to be mostly pre-occupied with how quickly he can put distance between you and him. Sometimes that's fine, except on tricky bits where he seems to be constantly leaving you completely on your own, and even shouting an insult at one point. A mountain biking trip up to visit us in BC might help him with his humility issues.
So different to see water on the trails there, totally awesome you were able to ride in those conditions. And the flinstones!!! Have to look up where the creators got there inspiration from possibly those hills? That’s would be awesome if it was. Awesome riding.

The Ippster omg you nailed that one! There were some things before that that I was like 🤔 but when he said the slowest chute comment I went to bat for Eric (talked out loud to my TV) 😂😂. Then it just got worse from there. Towards the end when he said, you need to stay on my tail and hit this drop and then he follows with...you’re gonna ride around it? 🤬 Guiding, if done right, has nothing to do with the guide and his ride and has everything to do with the people who enlisted the service. This guy missed a huge opportunity to grow his business and reach a market that likes their adventures and are willing to pay for them...but not like that!

It's dudes just like him that will turn any new or intermediate person away from mountain biking or end up getting them hurt because of just constantly pushing the pace or making shitty comments to put people down and force them to go faster or take obstacles bigger than they are comfortable.

I’m the same way as you man I always check before doing. No bashing on your guide but he should’ve warned you before the drop or jump came up and he should’ve been in your sight so you can mimic his moment but no worries dude. You killed it!
You didn't make Scott look bad. As the other commenters have already pointed out, he kind of did that by himself. Whenever you take someone on a tough trail that you know well and they do not, you always tell them what's coming up and make sure that you're going slow enough for them to follow your lines. That's the whole f****** point of them following you. There's always a "better" rider. Mountain biking is all about camaraderie and good times!

I thought Scott did fine except you dont know the trail and he does. This is why I prefer plugging a plan in trail fork and just ride it myself so that I can make my own plan.

It's dudes just like him that will turn any new or intermediate person away from mountain biking or end up getting them hurt because of just constantly pushing the pace or making shitty comments to put people down and force them to go faster or take obstacles bigger than they are comfortable.

I wish I would’ve seen you guys up there and meet yuka also. I’m also Japanese and out of humming bird undertow and grudge which was the hardest and the easiest ? I’ve done hummingbird. Couple times and it’s super fun

I’m the same way as you man I always check before doing. No bashing on your guide but he should’ve warned you before the drop or jump came up and he should’ve been in your sight so you can mimic his moment but no worries dude. You killed it!

You didn't make Scott look bad. As the other commenters have already pointed out, he kind of did that by himself.
Whenever you take someone on a tough trail that you know well and they do not, you always tell them what's coming up and make sure that you're going slow enough for them to follow your lines. That's the whole f****** point of them following you. There's always a "better" rider. Mountain biking is all about camaraderie and good times!
What video did YOU watch? What's Scott doing at 2:15?? Were you in the edit room with Eric at 4:19 and 8:40? Wonder what was discussed at these points? How about at 12:15? Get the point?? Maybe watch and listen to the WHOLE vid before making ignorant comments. Cheers

Yeah, I'm sure that a lot of people were having reactions. Probably a little protective of Eric and Yuka. Hopefully, Scott will see this as an opportunity for growth and not as a business disaster. Eric didn't criticize him and left a link to promote him. The critical comments were observations, probably from folks who have followed guides or led groups.

I thought Scott did fine except you dont know the trail and he does. This is why I prefer plugging a plan in trail fork and just ride it myself so that I can make my own plan.
But the problem is Scott is a guide, if you're a guide then your job is to show people trails not just blast down them in front of the person.
@@Freshtony15 I agree but part of guides job is showing the trail is having the correct speed to approaches and that is my impression that Scott was trying to do.
