Sometimes you have to do something you hate in order to please someone so you do it for their sake. I wouldn't begrudge George taking his mother out to lunch once a month. This time it should be postponed so he could go to the funeral with Louise but otherwise why should she resent it? Mother Jefferson won't live forever and it's something George can do for her that later on he can look back and think he pleased her.
As for the hippo - gak! Yikes!
