  • This was a major highlight of my Mahanagri Express journey from Bombay to Varanasi. At Manmad, I was delighted to hop into the WAM4 loco (#21326) that had taken charge from Igatpuri. From the next three hours, I was able to savor an eventful ride till Bhusaval, including the following:
    Explanation of loco controls
    Crossing of various WAM4-hauled trains
    Overtake of the Kushinagar Express
    Skips of Chalisgaon and Pachora
    Halts at Nandgaon and Jalgaon (unscheduled)
    Crossing with the diesel-hauled Goa Express
    Multiple encounters with the WAG2 loco
    Arrival at Bhusaval

    I am in tears while watching this video... I was born in 1993 and have been crazy about railways since childhood... So you can understand how precious all your videos could be for me...i remember i even knew exactly all the stations between jabalpur and bilaspur when I was 6 or 7...

      @@ManiVijay yes sir one and only amarkantak from jabalpur to raipur... Still there is only one train... I remember it used to reach raipur at 10 o clock or sometimes even 12o clock or more after getting late... Now it reaches exactly at 07:00 in morning

      I was born in 1992. Vijay Sirs best vedio according to me is capturing Mumbai Pune Shatabdi with matching liveried WCAM2/3, Capturing Howrah Kurla express with WCG2, capturing Karnavati SF with BL WCAM2/2P in its original livery 2 times at Ahmedabad (during Jan 2000) as well as from Vadodara (during Dec 2000) from Sayajinagri express and his any vedios having mail express trains of 90s having maroon liveried coaches along with matching liveried WAM4 like this one, I think he even captured Howrah Kurla express in this same condition while entering howra by coromondal exp from Chennai.

    in the early 90s during our summer vacation, we used to halt at Madras Central Railway Station for connecting train and my eyes were always fixed on the incoming/outgoings electric engines... the sound, the look, the power it used to have, the electric sparks and much more... thanks for uploading the wonderfull capture

      wammies should be preserved for non superfast mail/express trains like Saurashtra exp/mail, Lokshakti, Sayajinagri, Gujarat Express/mail, Vadodara Mumbai exp, kutch exp, Aravalli exp, Ranakpur exp, Ajmer Banglore/Mysore express, Ahimsa, Awadh, Ferozepur Janta, Howrah LTT express, Gujarat Queen, Shanti Exp, Golconda Express, Veraval Jabalpur express, Jagannath express, Steel express, Howrah Hatia Express, Tata Nagpur shuttle, Mumbai Ahmedabad shuttle, Valsad Ahmedabad shuttle, Hyderabad Mumbai express, Konark express, Udayan express, Coimbatore LTT express, Banglore Gorakhpur express, Sahyadri express, Patna LTT express, Rajkot Secunderabad Express, Okha Ernakulam Express, Okha Gorakhpur express and Sabarmati express. Wammies should be preserved for using in these non superfast mail/express trains atleast.

      @@RF_ABD_30259 Few are converted into WAG5 and provided to some shuttle service trains. Few are used for shunting operation by renaming as WAS4.

      @@RF_ABD_30259 Indian railway is fool, depreciating the value of locos such as not only WAP1/4 but also WAP5/7 by providing them to non Superfast trains which doesn't look nice. Instead all WDMs should be condemned and out of service after 100/- electrification.
      I think Indian railway must keep WAP 5/7 for LHB Superfast trains, WAP1/4 for ICF Superfast trains and WAM4 for mail/express trains, that is ideal but Indian railway is biggest fool and does whatever comes to its mind with locomotives impulsively.
      Even the WCAM1, WCG2, WCAM2/2p & WCAM3 could have been used for shunting duties in places like Mumbai (Central and CST), Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Valsad, Bandra T, LTT, Dadar T (both CR & WR), Bhusawal, Nagpur, Pune & Manmad after electrifying all shunting lines.
      But IR is biggest fool. There was a time when Rajdhanis and Shatabdis got WDM, WCAM 1 and WAM 4, now even shuttle service low priority trains getting not only WAP1/4 but WAP5/7.
      No standard in Indian railways. Gives any loco for any train.
      WAM 4 looks nice with mail/express trains, WAP5/7 with any LHB Superfast trains in the lines of Rajdhani & Shatabdi (maybe fully AC or having few non AC coaches as well but modern LHB compulsorily) & WAP1/4 for ICF Superfast trains being especially converted from express to superfast category and WCAM1 and WCAM2/3 looks better with shunting express and Superfast trains respectively.
      I don't understand why IR cannot see what looks better with what and does impulsively whatever comes in mind.
      Indian railway is biggest fool for putting WAM4 out of service and providing WAP5/7 for mail/express trains and operating Superfast trains in unelectrified routes before electrifying then fully and damaging the image and expectations of Superfasts as well as WAP5/7.
      IR has operated Rajdhani/Shatabdi in routes having no electrification, Superfast trains had WAPs or WCAM2 (in WR) unavailability during their operation in early 2000s and now damaging the image of WAP5/7 by allotting them to non Superfast trains deserving only WAM4 and not even WAP1/4.
      What else can be expected from IR which has done everytime such bullshits since Rajdhani/Shatabdi operated in WDM, WCAM1 and WAM4 till this time.
      IR is just doing shit by not doing things what looks better as per my description.

      Superfast trains such as Jnaneshwari, Swaraaj, Karnavati and Deccan Queen were best memories in terms of old trains having unique liveried coaches.
      Jnaneshwari and Swaraaj had Rajdhani liveried coaches along with matching liveried WAP1.
      Karnavati and Deccan Queen had Shatabdi liveried coaches along with matching liveried WCAM2/3.
      During late 90s and early 2000s.
      Those non Rajdhani/Shatabdi Superfast trains with unique liveried coaches and with WCAM2/3 or WAP1 loco link generated the best of memory.

      I had a similar train journey experience in Ahmedabad Howrah express while traveling from Anand to Howrah, I experienced a similar journey riding the train having maroon liveried coaches with matching liveried WAM4 from Bhusawal to Howrah between 1995 to 2000. So this vedio gives me back that life.

      Vijay sir is Amitabh Bachchan for the rail fans whereas I'm "Aamir Khan" or "Akshay Kumar" for rail fans because Im always after making the IR in terms of perfectionist by analyzing which loco perfect for which type of trains and Akshay Kumar because want to fight against the IR for any decision not appealing to the IR fans.

      If Vijay sir is Amitabh Bachchan or Rajnikanth then I would say Vijay sir, "kindly fight all the rail authorities and officials and get the WAM4s back for mail express trains along with keeping WAP1/4s for ICF Superfasts and WAP5/7s for lhb Superfasts along with making sure that Superfasts operate only in fully electrified routes and only mail/express operate in both electrified as well as unelectrified routes with just one fight just like Amitabh Bachchan changed everyone with just one fight in the film Shahenshah".

      Seeing so many WAM4 in matching livery with maroon coaches feels like a treasure only.
      Also informations such as regarding Rajdhani and Shatabdi getting WAM4 and WCAM1 in their initial days feels like a treasure.
      Getting to see So unique Liveried trains along with matching locos such as WAP 1 is also truely a treasure.

      In comparison between AC-DC, AC and DC locos, WCG2 almost resembled exactly WAM 4.
      Few WCAM1 resembled WAM4 as well, both were anyways quite lookalike to some kind.
      But WCAM2/3 never resembled WAPs.
      I always wish that WCAM2/3 had been exactly designed like WAPs then had been awesome.
      WAP5/7 resemble almost like both WAP1/4 as well as WCAM2/3 sometimes.
      So WAP 5/7 is always better than chosing between WCAM2/3 or WAP1/4..
      I wish NG NDM/ZDM, RTM WDM, TATA WAM4 and WAP5/7 only remain as 4 types of locos in which WAM 4 should always be seen along with WDM and WAP5/7 should always be seen beside NG NDM/ZDM.

      @@adityamajumdar5915 yes both Howrah express and the Surat Bhusawal express are part of my childhood memories. Howrah did not had stopage at our town so we often used to take passenger. Chhod Aaye Hum Vo Galiyaan! :)

      @@MrVinayak28 Galiyaa kaafi Badal bhi Gayi Hai.
      That time Ahmedabad Howrah express used to get matching liveried SRC/Tata/BSL WAM4 between Howrah and Bhusawal and matching liveried VTA/BSL WDM between Ahmedabad and Bhusawal whereas Surat Bhusawal passenger got WDM.
      Now Ahmedabad Howrah gets end to end SRC/HWH WAP1/4 post Surat Bhusawal electrification being route fully electrified along with the train being upgraded to Superfast from express category along with changes in coaches from maroon to blue. Surat Bhusawal passenger gets WAM4/WAG5.

      @@adityamajumdar5915 haha yes, i travellled last year only on this route. And a lot has changed. When I used to live in a small town on the famous Tatpti Line (Jalgaon-Udhna) I even saw Steam giant pulling our Surat Bhusawal passenger. From 1994 I guess it changed to diesel loco. We move from that place in 2001. Now don't travel on that route that often but the memories are for lifetime.

      @@MrVinayak28 Jalgaon udhna route started getting electrified since 2002 and by 2003 end it was fully electrified and trains such as HWW ADI exp started operating fully on electrified loco coz it included that section.

      Vijay sir has taught me that diesel locon can also go faster than electric u.
      Shatabdis if operate less than 110kmph, can be given WAM5 or WCAM1 too.
      Indian railways loco link can be erratic and wierd.
      Looks always doesn't matter on the basis of determining which train must get which loco .

    Woww !! What a great Loco ride on WAM-4 in '90s. I really enjoyed it and specially I like the friendly Loco pilot's explanation about the locomotive. You covered the entire locomotive inclding interior electrical equipments during running at top speed. A lot of thanks for your effort that did you take that time for your future viewers and Railfans.

      Indian railway is biggest idiot for withdrawing WAM4s from service so that WAP5/7 like WAP1/4 damage their value by getting allocated to mail/express trains.
      And the worse thing is that rail fans like me such as Mr Abhishek D instead of fighting this against the IR by protesting it simply discussing to me what idiotic thing IR has done which we already no.
      I'm trying to motivate all of you including Vijay sir to fight against Indian railways for bringing WAM4 immediately back for the mail/express trains, keeping WAP5/7 only for the LHB Superfast trains and WAP1/4 for the ICF Superfast trains so that the Indian railway looks better and reasonable in front of you fans as well as travellers.
      Instead of supporting me, fans like Abhishek are simply mentioning the idiotic decision IR.
      This is the problem with the IRFCA association, nobody protests or forces or puts pressure on the IR for correcting any unfair decision like withdrawing WAM4s from service so that WAP5/7 loose their image/value by getting allotted to mail/express trains and allowing Superfast trains getting WAPs to also operate in unelectrified routes and much much later electrifying them.

      I miss ICF Rajdhani with matching liveried WAP1, Jnaneshwari Superdelux and Swaraaj with Rajdhani liveried coaches and matching liveried WAP1, ICF Shatabdi with matching liveried WCAM2/3, Karnavati Superfast and Deccan Queen with Shatabdi liveried coaches and matching liveried WCAM2/3 very very much. From 1990s and early 2000s.
      I also miss WDS4 Shunter with few small distance passenger trains from those days.
      Also I miss maroon liveried coaches along with matching liveried WAM4 especially when getting after a loco Change from matching liveried WDM among the mail express trains. Also missing cream brown Liveried coaches along with WCAM1 (original liveried) in WR and with WCG2 in CR.

      Mumbai CST Manmad Bhusawal Nagpur, Mumbai CST Lonavala Pune, Mumbai central Surat BRC Ahmedabad and Mumbai central BRC Ratlam were great routes during those days.

      Train journeys having Loco changes from WDM to WAM4 in trains during that era was always memorable, really.
      If you have ever travelled by Hyderabad Mumbai express and Sayajinagri during that time, you'll always feel the train departed Gandhidham or Hyderabad during night with a WDM and by the time morning happened the locomotive magically changes into a WCAM1 or WCG2 while completing the journey upto Mumbai central or CST respectively.
      That's how anyone will feel who has no idea regarding the loco changing system during childhood during those times.
      Howrah Rajdhani and Bhopal Shatabdi were back to back fastest trains in India until duronto trains inaugurated.
      Many people respected Rajdhani and Shatabdi with WAPs not WCAM2/3.

      Sir knows much much about history of any popular express or Superfast trains here.
      People like me can only imagine a Rajdhani/Shatabdi or any overnight or intercity superast with a WCAM2 or WAPs. But Vijay sir is someone who has seen the unbelievable Rajdhani and Shatabdi with WAM4 as well as WCAM1. So Vijay sir knows far far better than us.
      Vijay sir has seen Rajdhani and Shatabdi in WDM as well which people like me will never imagine.
      Vijay sir has seen WCM5 locos which resembles diesel loco but actually electric which I have really missed seeing in real.
      Vijay sir has also kept WCAM1 and WCAM2/3 alive in the times of only WAM4 and WAPs along with unique Liveried popular trains when they're in ICF .

      The non AC coaches of lhb Superfast trains such as Jnaneshwari and Swaraaj (sleeper LHB) & Karnavati and Deccan Queen (chaircar LHB) should be as such that the moment all the windows are shunt down the AC starts operating while the train is on its commercial run.
      Also there must be an option for food being included in the ticket for the ones travelling on their AC coaches.
      Jnaneshwari Superdelux and Swaraaj are the overnight journey Superfast trains having Rajdhani type sleeper lhb coaches along with WAP5/7 loco.
      Karnavati SF and Deccan Queen are day journey InterCity Superfast trains which have Shatabdi type chaircar LHB coaches with WAP 5/7 loco.
      The only difference between Rajdhani and Swaraaj/Jnaneshwari as well as the difference between Shatabdi and Deccan Queen/Karnavati is that Rajdhani and Shatabdi have only AC coaches whereas Swaraaj, Jnaneshwari, Deccan Queen and Karnavati have both AC as well as non AC coaches.
      Hence it just has to be that during the time of commercial run, incase all windows of non AC coaches of Jnaneshwari, Swaraaj, Karnavati and Deccan Queen are closed then an automatic AC should start provided everyone closes windows.
      Also people travelling by Jnaneshwari, Swaraaj, Karnavati and Deccan Queen in AC must have meals included in their tkt like Rajdhani and Shatabdi.

      WAM4 and WAP1/4 have a stearing type equipment inside the locomotive for driving the trains which WAP5/7 do not have. I have observed this. Regarding WCAM1 and WCAM2 I don't know.

    I'm surprised how clean the tracks were !! Looks cleaner than the Northeast Corridor in the USA.
    This line looks well suited for a HSR upgrade. Electrified, double tracked. Could easily support 120 mph trains with some updated signaling and track maintenance.

      That's definitely a food for thought. In fact, I often wonder how it would have been if there were affordable video cameras back in the 80s. We could have taken so much more priceless footage such as unique liveries of various trains.

      If all trains are lhbfied along with WAP5/7 HOG and 100/- electrification, then in terms of railways, India will be next to Europe like Switzerland or Germany.
      WDS4 and WCM5 really look cute Beside each other.
      WAP1 and dual cabbed WDPs look ditto similar.
      Vijay sir taught me trains not going beyond 110kmph in terms of speed can get WAM4 or WCAM1.
      Mumbai area should have been made under AC a long back.
      Why Mumbai area wasn't converted to AC system along with other parts of India like SER, ER, NR or SR I don't really understand.
      CR and WR also should have been converted into AC a long back while electrifying Mumbai Ahmedabad route as well as Mumbai Delhi WR route, Mumbai Pune route and Mumbai Igatpuri route.

      Few examples of Bollywood films showing trains:-
      1) Sehar (2005):-
      This Arshad Warsi starrer film had lots of WR trains having WCAM1 locos, one train with BRC WAM4 (orange livery with cream band) and Karnavati with original liveried WCAM2/2p.
      2) Dum (2003):-
      This Vivek Oberoi starrer film had shown a WAM4 along with matching liveried maroon coaches.
      3) Vijaypath:-
      This Ajay Devgn starrer 1994 film had shown a cream brown Liveried WAM4 (front was fully maroon) with maroon liveried coaches but one Nilgiri Liveried blue coach in between.

      You should have seen the MG YAM4 locos of Chennai Tambaram section. Those MG electric locos operated until 2004 summer. YAM4s almost resemble WAG2 but YAM4s are way more cute.

      Railways should keep them for mail/express trains; all WAM4, WAP1/4 for Superfasts with ICF coaches and WAP 5/7 for Superfasts with LHB coaches whereas WCAM 1 and WCAM 2 can be used for shunting duties. WCAM 1 shunting the mail express trains whereas WAM4's hauling them in main line whereas WCAM 2 shunting both ICF and LHB Superfast trains whereas WAP 1/4 and WAP 5/7 hauling them (ICF and LHBs respectively) in the main line. All WCAM 1 and WCAM 2 should be allotted for shunting duties in Mumbai central and Mumbai CST.

      My father travelled by lots of trains during 1990s and early 2000s.
      According to my father, Lucknow Delhi Shatabdi, Pune Mumbai Shatabdi and Pune Ahmedabad Ahimsa express were the most comfortable train journeys during that time.
      He travelled by Lokshakti, Gujarat Express, Gujarat mail, Karnavati, Shatabdi and Ahimsa express most of the time.

    10:34 LP blowing front horn which has lower sound and there is another rear which has louder sound. Nowadays horns in Electric locos fitted on top of head & one of them fitted into back faced and another one into front faced position

      I miss the WCG2 of CR, WCAM3 of CR in original livery, Dark blue, Light blue with red striped WCAM1 from 1998 in WR and original liveried WCAM2/2P of WR.

      Had Mumbai area been under AC would have always really been better.
      In WR instead of WCAM1, trains would have got WAM4 and instead of WCAM2, trains would have got WAP1 without any problem in loco links.
      In CR, instead of WCG2, trains would have got WAM4 and instead of WCAM3, trains would have got WAP1.
      In that case Rajdhani, Jnaneshwari and Swaraaj have got WAP1 end to end without any loco change at Vadodara or Igatpuri and Shatabdi, Karnavati and Deccan Queen would have got matching liveried WAP1 from starting without any problem in loco link. This would have really actually been better in my opinion.
      There was a lot of loco link mess between WCAM1 and WCAM2.
      ADI Shatabdi and Mumbai Rajdhani need not have been getting WDM under electric traction or WCAM1 until WCAM2 didn't come even though Rajdhani and Shatabdi have been hauled by WAM4 sometimes as well as WDM.
      Karnavati and Swaraaj would have never then got WCAM1 instead of WCAM2.
      Rajdhani and Jnaneshwari wouldn't have been compelled to change their matching liveried WAP1 with sacrifice at Vadodara or Igatpuri.
      Shatabdi and Deccan Queen too have been in WAP1 only then.

      I'm a bit curious to know that why only selected trains got unique livery in those days apart from Rajdhani & Shatabdi.
      Apart from Rajdhani and Shatabdi, Jnaneshwari, Karnavati, Swaraaj & Deccan Queen among the Superfasts and some express trains like Nilgiri exp, saptagiri express, Darjeeling mail, paschim and Gir express had unique liveries.
      So I want to know trains given unique livery in those era was based on what?

    Quite nostalgic to see a recording of the year 1992 - 29 years ago. The attractively liveried coaches were still not pressed inti service. I am fascinated by trains and love watching journey videos. The explanations were submerges in background noise though.

      That time all Rajdhanis got WAP1 but Mumbai one changed the loco to WCAM2 at BRC.
      All Shatabdis got WAP1 but only Mumbai - Ahmedabad / Pune one got WCAM2/3.
      Loco change in any express or mail train from WDM to WAM4 or WCAM1/WCG2 was very interesting during traction change that time.
      Anyone having not seen that era will never ever accept Rajdhani/Shatabdi train being hauled by a WDM or WAM4 or WCAM1 which are reality and facts.
      In my case toh forget Rajdhani/Shatabdi, I Toh cannot even tolerate Superfast trains like Jnaneshwari/Swaraaj & Karnavati/Deccan Queen getting a WCAM1 or WCG2 or WAM4 in place of WCAM2/3 or WAP1 or WAP5/7. I Toh just want to see WAP5/7 with Superfasts namely Jnaneshwari, Swaraaj, Karnavati and Deccan Queen only after Rajdhani/Shatabdi trains.
      Rajdhani/Shatabdi might be soon be replaced with magnet bullet trains just like Kalka Shimla toy train replaced it's Steam loco with NDM/ZDM.
      By the way I also want to see NDM/ZDM preserved for Small NG passenger trains in place of the WDS4 because WDS4 aren't preserved anymore, I wished they're preserved like that decade for the small passenger trains.
      During that time seeing a WDS4 and a WCAM2/3 or WAP1 together were very rare. Just like watching an NDM/ZDM and WAP5/7 together.
      Those days WDS4 and WCAM 2/3 or WAP1 looked very distinct. Today NDM/ZDM & WAP5/7 look very distinct.
      During that time watching a WDM coupled with WAM 4/WCAM1/WCG2 or WDM piggybacking WAM4/WCAM1/WCG2 with any mail/express train was an excellent scene.
      Those days, even watching WDM coupled with WDS4 among diesels and WAM4 coupled with WAP1/4 or WCAM1 coupled with WCAM2/3 among the electrics were awesome interesting. But WDM and WDS4 never did piggybacking to each other like hauling any train but WCAM1 and WCAM2/3 or WAM4 and WAP1/4 many times did piggybacking to each other while hauling any express or Superfast trains in case of any loco failure or pulling any train having more number of coaches with some additional freight coaches as well.

      I can help little bit in making the new version.
      Few points in the new versions of the trains Vijay sir saw with comparison along with old:-
      1) Any mail/express train like Mahanagri Vijay sir saw during those times having maroon liveried coaches along with matching liveried WAM4 and WDM, new version of such trains are normally AB blue liveried coaches along with a TATA WAM4 (Red-blue-white livery) and RTM WDM (Red-white-grey). The same is also applicable for any mail/express trains in CR getting WCG2 that time or trains having Cream-brown Liveried coaches with original liveried WCAM1 (Red/cream livery) or red-yellow liveried WDM.
      2) Rajdhani old version (orange with yellow linings) he saw was the ICF coaches with its unique liveried Coaches along with matching liveried WAP1. New version followes modern LHB sleeper coaches (red and Grey bottom) along with a white WAP5/7 loco. Same is applicable for Jnaneshwari and Swaraaj in similar lines but including both AC as well as non AC coaches.
      3) Shatabdi old version he saw was it's unique liveried ICF coaches (thick blue with cream band in top) along with a matching liveried WAP1 and WCAM2/3 (original liveried). New version followes modern LHB chaircar coaches (sky blue and grey bottom) along with white a WAP5/7 loco. The same is applicable for Karnavati and Deccan Queen with including both AC and non AC coaches.
      4) Any small passenger train with few coaches he saw along with WDS4 shunter hauling it, it's ideal new version is small NG coaches with NDM/ZDM.
      5) NG NDM/ZDM is an ideal replacement for WDS4 Shunter.
      6) White WAP5/7 used for the LHB (modernized coaches) superfast trains is a perfect replacement for ICF Rajdhani liveried WAP1 and ICF Shatabdi liveried WAP1 and WCAM2/2p/3 .
      These are some tips I can give regarding comparison between those trains in those time with their today's new version.

      You can never ever forget Rajdhanis and Shatabdis with their unique ICF original livery and ICF Rajdhani with matching liveried WAP1 & ICF Shatabdi with matching liveried WCAM2/3 I still cannot forget. With Shatabdi and Rajdhani always their ICF coaches along with their respective matching liveried WCAM2/3 and WAP1 respectively only comes in mind.

    2 - why did Kushinagar exp had 2 locos?
    3 - any specific reason for unscheduled halts?

      Thanks! 1 - MPS was 105 in the IGP-ET section, 2 - I think it had a loco failure and the rear one was supposed to be the 'rescuer', 3 - not sure about the unscheduled halts. The derailment had completely thrown schedules out of whack, so unscheduled halts could have been due to trains ahead, or lack of platform availability (the Jalgaon one).

      ​@@ManiVijay normally in case of loco failure the second loco is supposed to be attached in front of the loco, not rare of the train, loco being attached at the rare is normally a banker, but incase of loco failure another loco is supposed to piggyback.

      Maroon liveried coaches of express trains along with matching liveried WAM4 and WDM combination is a great old memory of that time and so is maroon liveried coaches along with cream brown Liveried coaches in WR with original liveried WCAM1 and on CR with WCG2.
      ICF Rajdhani along with matching liveried WAP1, ICF Rajdhani liveried Jnaneshwari Superdelux and Swaraaj with matching liveried WAP1, ICF Shatabdi with matching liveried WCAM2/3 and ICF Shatabdi liveried Karnavati and Deccan Queen with matching liveried WCAM2/3 are the best old memory I can't still get over with.
      WCG2, original liveried WCAM1, Original liveried WCAM2 and WCAM3, matching liveried WAM4 with maroon liveried coaches and both Rajdhani and Shatabdi liveried WAP1 have generated very great memory.
      In the current scenario, lhb coaches with white WAP5/7 and mail/express trains with Tata WAM4 are creating nice memories.
      Post 2016, watching mail/express trains with Tata WAM4 and LHB Superfast trains such as Jnaneshwari and Swaraaj along with Rajdhani type LHB coaches and white WAP5/7 and LHB Superfast trains such as Karnavati and Deccan Queen along with Shatabdi type lhb coaches and white WAP5/7 are really creating very ideal memories.
      Memories are even being created now.
      But had Mumbai area been under AC from early days you have never ever got certain memories.

      WCM locos were only on Mumbai Pune section. KYN IGP route had WCG2 and WCAM1. WCM travelled very less on that section but more on Pune line.
      When WCMs were failing, initially WCG2 hauled mail/express trains many times in 1995-1997 in Mumbai Pune section as well until WCAM3 didn't come.
      Ones WCAM3 came into service in 1997, all WCMs were out of service.
      WCAM3 hauled not only CR trains but also trains between Pune and Ahmedabad as because Mumbai Pune Shatabdis WCAM3 needed regular maintaince.
      WCG2 also hauled CR trains along with WCAM3 between 1997 to 2004 but after 2004 when Pune Mumbai Shatabdi stopped, majority of mail/ express trains getting WCAM3 started getting WCG2 which were passing Pune or even in IGP KYN route and trains between Pune and Ahmedabad started getting WCAM1s post 2004.

      Deccan Queen and Jnaneshwari Superdelux were the first trains to be getting WCAM3 on CR.
      Karnavati Superfast and Swaraaj were the first trains getting WCAM2 in WR before Rajdhani and Shatabdi.
      Also after Rajdhani Jnaneshwari Superdelux and Swaraaj are first trains to be getting WAP1.
      In WR and CR respectively, Karnavati Superfast and Deccan Queen were the first trains to be getting WCAM2/3 after Shatabdi.
      My experience.

      Yes. I have traveled in all the four trains between Bombay and Madras that existed in the 80s, including the Janata.

      You should have travelled by Lucknow New Delhi Shatabdi, Amritsar Shatabdi, Howrah/Sealdah Rajdhani (via Patna as well as gaya/Dhanbad), Mumbai Rajdhani (from both CST as well as central one), Chennai Rajdhani, Secunderabad/Banglore Rajdhani, Bokaro/Ranchi Howrah Shatabdi, Mumbai Pune Shatabdi, Bhopal Shatabdi, Karnavati during the year 1998 from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, Jnaneshwari Superdelux during the year 1998 from Howrah to Mumbai, Deccan Queen during 2001 from Mumbai to Pune, Swaraaj during 2001 from Mumbai to Delhi, Bilaspur Rajdhani, Ranchi Rajdhani, Chennai Coimbatore Shatabdi and Kalka Shatabdi. Journey is enjoyable.

      Travelling by Rajdhani liveried AC coach of Jnaneshwari Superdelux and Swaraaj or Shatabdi liveried AC coach of Karnavati SF and Deccan Queen was really very luxurious for upper middle class service sector professionals in high posts during summer in those days for people such as Chef engineers or professors or advocates or IAS officers or any administrative officers and authorities or doctors whereas Rajdhani and Shatabdi was for businessmen or any ministerial level powerful person or politicians or any celebrity.
      Today most of the day journey or InterCity trains are being upgraded to Superfast and then given Shatabdi type chaircar LHB coaches with WAP5/7 ditto in the lines of Karnavati and Deccan Queen.
      Most of the overnight journey trains are first being upgraded to Superfast and then given Rajdhani type LHB sleeper coaches with WAP 5/7 ditto in the lines of Jnaneshwari and Swaraaj.
      Railways are doing everything for public convenience and comfort.
      Railways are also seeing their own benefits.
      Railways are working on safety, sanitation and hygiene too.
      The diesel locos after 100/- electrification might be exported to countries like Pakistan, bangladesh, Srilanka and Cambodia.
      I think only small branch lines in Indian railways such as Anand khambhat or Anand vadtal or Valsad kathana or nadiad kapadvanj won't be electrified and all other major routes were more than 5-6 passenger trains operate in a day on both sides will be electrified.
      Any small route were just 3-4 trains maximum operate won't be electrified.
      Routes where more than 5 trains operating will be electrified.
      In LHB trains even the buffet car or pantry are in AC coach but on ICF trans, except Rajdhani and Shatabdi pantry or buffet cars are non AC only.

    Interesting that Kushinagar express had live locos at both ends. Another noteworthy thing was the rare Marathi destination plates (मुंबई-गॊरखपुर-मुंबई before Bombay/बम्बई became Mumbai/मुम्बई) at 7.54; possibly because this rake was a CR rake.

      I feel that Kushinagar had a loco failure, hence, another loco got attached at the rear. Normally, Mahanagri doesn't overtake it at all. Very interesting observation about मुंबई-गॊरखपुर-मुंबई .

      @@ManiVijay but incase of loco failure normally the rescuer loco is attached in front of the failed loco for hauling the train by making the failed loco run dead behind the rescuer while hauling the train. Locos are attached at the rare end for banker service, in case of loco failure the rescuer loco piggybacks the failed loco.

      Normally in Mumbai Central and Howrah ull find trains do shunting between the terminal station and yard that way, one loco pulling and another loco pushing from behind.

      Which locomotive was Ahimsa express given when it was introduced in 1991 until the arrival of WCAM3 ? Before the beginning of Konkan railway, which route Ahmedabad Thiruvananthapuram or Ahmedabad Kochin express used to take during that time until 1998 and which locomotives those trains used to get between Ahmedabad and Surat ?

      Seeing WAM4 or WCAM1 with WDM, WAP1 or WCAM2/2p/3 beside a WDS4 Shunter and seing WAP5/7 beside an NG NDM/ZDM is always fun.
      I love lhb Rajdhani or lhb Jnaneshwari Superdelux/Swaraaj in similar lines along with white WAP5/7 and lhb Shatabdi or lhb Karnavati SF/Deccan Queen in similar lines along with white WAP5/7 passing through beside any NG passenger such as Pathankot Jogindar Nagar or Kalka Shimla or Billimora Waghai or Nagpur Chingwara or neral matheran having NG NDM/ZDM. Personally I love this very much.
      I also love TATA WAM4 and RTM WDM together with each other hauling any express trains.
      If you see Rajdhani and Shatabdi with WDM or a Karnavati Superfast and Swaraaj with WAM4 or WCAM1, you'll always feel happy seeing Rajdhani and Shatabdi with WAM4 or WCAM1.
      Whenever I saw Karnavati SF and Swaraaj with WAM 4 or WCAM1 and Shatabdi and Rajdhani with WDM, I just felt happy and feeling of satisfaction after I learnt that Rajdhani and Shatabdi of really getting WAM4 and WCAM1 sometimes.

      Vijay sir knows various internal details of various express and Superfast trains like which trains speed is what mph and why a particular train gets a WAM4 or WCAM1 despite being a Superfast and why a particular train gets WAPs or WCAM2/3 despite being a non Superfast.

      I feel I should have been a grown up guy having seen and experiencing Rajdhani and Shatabdi along with WAM4 and WCAM1 initially; immediately after or post being hauled by WDM just like Vijay sir, then I really have not complained seeing Karnavati or Swaraaj with WAM4 or WCAM1 instead of WAP1 or WCAM2.
      Vijay sir has seen Howrah Rajdhani in WAM4 and Mumbai Shatabdi in WCAM1. Around that time even Mumbai Rajdhani sometimes got WCAM1. I wished having seen and experiencing them around that time, would have been better. Howrah Rourkela Shatabdi I have seen with WAM4 in live around 2001 and also the Chennai Mysore one around 2002 but in IRFCA images.
      I really now feel I should have been in situation for watching and experiencing Rajdhanis and Shatabdis with WCAM1 and WAM4, then remembering that I would have never complained seeing Karnavati and Swaraaj with WAM4 or WCAM1 instead of WAP1 or WCAM2.
      In CR, in Mumbai Igatpuri manmad section, all trains initially got WAM4 and then WAPs beyond Igatpuri and until Igatpuri either got WCG2 or WCAM3. But Jnaneshwari Superdelux from starting always got WCAM3 and WAP1.
      In CR , in Mumbai Pune route, every trains in Mumbai Pune section used to get both WCG2 and WCAM3 but Deccan Queen from starting always got WCAM3.
      Jnaneshwari and Deccan Queen always got WAP1 and WCAM3 locomotives only from very starting in CR.
      In WR, after Rajdhani and Shatabdi, mainly Swaraaj and Karnavati were intended and targetted for providing them with a WAP1 or WCAM2 type locomotive in their link but in between for a very long time both Swaraaj and Karnavati got WCAM1 or WAM4 type locomotive.
      But around 2010s, in WR after Rajdhani and Shatabdi, it was Swaraaj and Karnavati only which got WCAM2/2p regularly in their links from mid 2000s.
      In CR, Jnaneshwari is given priority equivalent to Rajdhani and Deccan Queen is given priority equivalent to Shatabdi.
      Jnaneshwari and Deccan Queen used to be almost next to Rajdhani and Shatabdi respectively.
      Similarly in WR, Swaraaj and Karnavati were supposed to be like non AC Rajdhani and non AC Shatabdi respectively but WR was totally unable to maintain that for a long time from early to mid 2000s.
      But from mid 20000s, WR 99.99/- tries it's level best for maintaining Swaraaj like a non AC Rajdhani and Karnavati like a non AC Shatabdi as far as possible till now.
      Honestly I feel like Rajdhani and Shatabdi should only be introduced in any route after electrifying it completely. Such trains should not be given for too much fuel consumption.
      Rajdhani and Shatabdi especially in routes likes Ahmedabad Delhi with Ajmer Delhi, NJP Guwahati Dibrugarh, Delhi Dehradun, Delhi Trivandrum (Panvel-shoranur section), Banglore Mysore and Delhi kathgodam should have only operated after their lines fully electrified or these routes should have been fully electrified the moment any Rajdhani and Shatabdi were announced for those sections.

      Maybe the train didn't have pantry car.
      Or maybe the train had more number of general coaches only on one side, that also can be possible.
      Normally mail coaches are between the general coaches and first class or AC coaches towards the beginning or ending of the train.
      At the most after 3-4 coaches comes the mail coach.
      Pantry car if often located between the AC coaches and other sleeper coaches on every express trains.
      Either this train had more number of general coaches or no pantry or maybe mail coaches could have been having a facility for pantry staffs to pass through with a vestibule.
      Vijay sir might know the exact reason.

      One of my all-time favorites was the one that Ganga Kaveri Express originally had. It used to be very similar to the livery of the Vijayawada WAM4s.

      Mine is White WAP5/7 with LHB Karnavati/Shatabdi having modern lhb chaircar coaches, White WAP5/7 with LHB Jnaneshwari/Rajdhani having modern lhb sleeper coaches, ICF Karnavati and Deccan Queen having Shatabdi liveried coaches along with matching liveried WCAM2/3 or matching liveried WAP1, ICF liveried Jnaneshwari and Swaraaj having Rajdhani liveried coaches along with matching liveried WAP 1, Tata WAM4 (red-blue-white livery) along with mail/express trains having mixture of both AB blue and VB maroon coaches, maroon liveried WAM4 along with express trains having matching liveried VB maroon coaches and mail express trains having mixture of cream-brown livery as well as VB maroon liveried coaches along with Red-Cream liveried WCAM1 with blue lines in Mumbai Ahmedabad route, A combination of WDM paired with WAM4 by WDM piggybacking WAM4 hauling express train, WDM coupled along with a WAM4, WDS4 shunter with any 6 coach passenger or NG NDM/ZDM with any 5 coach passenger train standing just beside an LHB Superfast train having WAP5/7 and a WDS4 shunter beside a WAP 1 or NG NDM/ZDM just beside a WAP 5/7. These are my favourite locomotives.

      A WAM4 honking at speed filled us up with anticipation like nothing else. Personally, I would have loved to see a 3-phase version of WAM4 with the same crisp horn in this day and age dominating the electrified sections of CR.
