I don't think the existing IP could generate any more than $500K if that. The Intellivision was a fun system to play in like 1982 mostly because it had better sports games than Atari. History has shown that sports games are not valuable (except in rare cases) as retro game experiences.
Plus there's this bigger factor: Anyone born after the range of 1986 (IE, anyone born within the timing to have started gaming when INTV collapsed) doesn't know, or care what Intellivision offered. It was a dead and buried company by the time I was aware of video games. The best game for the system would at best be met with a lukewarm reception today by a general audience. Even the best it _could_ offer was simply done better on other platforms. Even in the heyday, the Famicom simply was a massive leap, and as plain looking as NES Tennis looks, it at the very least looks the part.

@@XanthinZarda Sure, I mean there were 1/2 dozen "also-ran" golden age systems that are interesting from a historical perspective, but mostly act as stepping tones in video game history. There are some, like the Atari 8-bit computer line, and the Vectrex which I don't think have been given their due, but others like the Odyssey, Astrocade, and Intellivision which were fine for their time, but really offered very little that was not done better by contemporaries, and certainly done better by what came after.
@@steveafulton Atari was robbed, gutted, and spat upon by Jack Tramiel. The AX00 computer lines could have been a force to be reckoned with. Sometimes the more conspirtorial side of me says that he bought the company just to crash the computer line so the C64 would live longer.

The retro gaming community has to share a big part of the blame for enabling this trash fire. The best case scenario for the Amico would have been a product that people should not spend their money on. Instead of calling that out, Atari Age gave a hub for Tommy to spread his lies with zero consequences for over a year. UA-camrs either played it as "well, both sides..." or outright acted as Intellivision's propaganda wing. Bottomline is that influencers who should have known better allowed paying customers who don't follow this stuff closely to be mislead.
How many refunds could they possibly still have outstanding? At $100 a piece, even if they had 1000 refunds, that’s just $100k. Where are the millions they raked in from investors at?
I'm tired. Oh not by the CUP Amico stuff. No. Please, keep the updates coming, those are pure gold. But I struggle to comprehend the amount of human stubbornness required to keep this business venture...well... I don't know what expression to use? "Afloat"? "On life support"? Either of those seem too generous at this point. Either way... I am in awe of the amount of energy being spent by human beings on this. I'm not an ecologist, but the carbon footprint alone would be a fascinating statistic. How many car trips have been taken in pursuit of this idea? The heating and lighting bill for the rented offices? The paperwork being printed? It is a fascinating idea, to witness how much Humanity's will, clearly knows no bounds when refusing to accept the futility of one's actions. So much human energy has been spent over the past months. And thinking of that amount, has me exhausted.
Here is the thing - once a startup fails, and the “big brain” leaves - there is still work to be done. Assets to be sold, liabilities to close, leases, licenses, partnerships… a business venture isn’t a light switch you can turn off once the business is clearly doomed. The idea guy dances off into the distance, and everyone else is left to clean up the mess.
@@johnmickey5017 I understand that. I've experienced such things myself. However the message here doesn't seem to be "we are closing shop", it seems to be, to quote the die-hard wrestling fan, "it's still real to me, damnit!". This is the problem with e-begging and crowdfunding-esque ventures. Products are announced too early, and they focus too hard on marketing their crowdfunding (sucking up money and establishing their community) instead of delivering on their product. You gotta have money to make money; you need your own money, or some private backing from a few private faithful investors before begging your audience. The order of operations should be, pay for developing a prototype (may need a few iterations before announcing the product if your design isn't sound), extensively test the product (focus group as well to see if you're hitting your mark and make adjustment if necessary), launch and announce your crowdfunding program when you're prototype is solid (if you need money to boost continued operation and fund mass production), if need be adjust your design and or add some stretch goals to reflect the influx of feedback from your community, and when ready announce your product officially and take on any remaining pre-orders. Far too often folks focus too hard on the crowdfunding community aspect thinking they'll get rich quick. With effective marketing they do, but they waste the money getting high on your supply, under deliver, and or never deliver. No wonder they flop. If they have some private big fish investors I bet they are pissed.
> If they have some private big fish investors I bet they are pissed. Well, there's a big document from the SEC that has exactly gone over the problems of being an investor in the Amico.
I find it telling that the only platform they did market research on was the Evercade, a platform specifically devoted to retro gaming. They knew it would do well there, which is why they only released it there.
I mean as far as what the “intellivision market” is: it’s basically something that was sated with the Intellivision Lives compilation PS2 game. That’s all we really wanted, as a curiosity or for archives, and we’re done. No one wanted a new console.
What is even the point now? Who wants this thing, and why? It appears that the company is going to cut and run, the games look lame, and the console itself is WAY too expensive. What is the upside!?
The whole concept of crowdfunding needs to be reworked and regulated. It bases its operation on the 'fool and his money' maxim. For every good product, there are ten that take the money and run.
Fantastic video guys, really hammered home the points on all fronts. I wonder if somebody has put together a playlist of all the podcast segments following the Amico saga in order from "weird idea" to "outright scam". Even in the heyday, the Famicom simply was a massive leap, and as plain looking as NES Tennis looks, it at the very least looks the part.
hey pat the drug addict. did you spend your paycheck on edibles to shit on gamestop already? If you are gonna delete those videos, know that I have already saved them and I also have the contact email of what they wanted you to say...
@@XanthinZarda that thought crosses my mind too, but really I think he wanted the Amiga and when he didn’t get it he made the ST. I loved my ST , but it was blind Atari love and should have held out for an affordable Amiga instead
@Jun Kyard-Willie Don't forget smash jt. All because the light bulb in his head finally turned on. Doesn't erase over 3 years of simping for tommy.
@Jun Kyard-Willie 👍
@Jun Kyard-Willie Retro Bro isn't a leader of anything lol. He's an insect.
The shills all deserve public shaming and getting ripped off
Remember that episode of The Simpsons where that dude wants to build a Monorail and rips them all off 😄
Just sayin
If they shut down, they can no longer divert money from investors to themselves. Good motivation to stay alive.
No impression is given that the venture is folding. In my country we have an expression, "the energy of despair", meaning the last ditch effort to save what can be saved. And they have been running on the energy of despair for months now. And I'm just fascinated by such a force of will, that's all ^^'
I love how Ian has his best behaviour face on for the sponsorship, but you can tell it's killing him :)
Amico to the investors and preorders: You fucked up, you trusted us.
I have just recently found your guy’s podcast a couple weeks ago, and it is excellent! Took some time to get up to speed on the shit show that’s happening with the amico. Unfortunately I feel like I put my refund request in to late with these giggling imps. Lesson well learned on my part. Keep doing what you guys do! 👍
The intro with the keto bars reminds me of the product placement scene in Wayne's World...
At this point I need another CU Podcast shirt that says BIG BIG BIG NEWS!
John Riggs is pretty quiet.
Yeah, he deleted or privated his "10 reasons not to get an Amico" video.
I still remember the last reason was “Don’t get an Amico unless you want to change your pants”
Nahhh not a shill at all
@@worldsheaviestjamband93 "You'll crap your pants at how bad it is."
Yup just like Taffer would say shut it down
Did anyone see that the so-called innovative cooperative multiplayer for Moon Patrol assigned a button to each player? What a scam
@Jun Kyard-Willie shows and proves it’s nothing more than a scam Tommy’s claim that they reworked all their games to be co-op
@Jun Kyard-Willie exactly they have no heart or honesty or they would have done that with sincere effort at the very beginning
The Netflix documentary about this story will make more money. Tommy will be the new Tiger King.
Tommy is on a special assignment, he's trying to find the differences in 2 pictures, purely big brain stuff.
The ONLY true Amico coverage kings, actual relevant, successful UA-camrs who are credible and professionals. Say no to low quality wannabes with personally disorders.
“In the last few months” understatement 😂
This has to be illegal.
My first console in 1979/80 was Intellivision. I passed on Atari 2600. I loved my Intellivsion. I have been watching the progress of Amico for last few years. I was curious but thought system was overpriced. I love seeing new updates on the Amico (usually all bad). I feel bad for the people who will probably not get their refunds. Tommy lied and the new CEO is lying. Shameless
This whole fiasco reminds me of that line in the beginning of Casino, where DeNiro talks about how running the casino is like "selling dreams for cash".
Throughout this entire project only 12 people have been refunded and there are people still waiting for refunds
Under normal circumstances they wouldn't be able to get a production line going and product shipped back to them by the end of the year, with the backlog in China's manufacturing and shipping industries you're looking at Holiday 2024 if they start today.
*lights doobie, grabs chips*
Oh, this’ll be good.
I don’t want to speak for Pat and Ian, but as a “backer” of CuPodcast and someone watched this from distance on their side by default(cos fucking trust them, good guys), this is the valediction moment for me. Hope best for everyone was hoodwinked by this, and hope one day something comes out for those who just wanted to relive some nostalgia from their youths…without being ripped off.
The amico is living up to it's nickname. _The Hot Mess Express_ 😂
@A Volpe Hey, I knew it was shady but gave them the benefit of the doubt. 🤷♂️
@A Volpe Tommy thinks he's an industry legend (which no one else does). He wouldn't want to tarnish his reputation. I guess he gives 2 💩 about his rep.
@A Volpe Ok. We can both agree he's a con artist.
Thank you for continuing to do the good work that gaming journalists SHOULD be doing of keeping these deceitful companies in line and on their toes. Great video.
Could’ve done an intellivision classics collection with the OG games and some new updated version as an insight into if anyone cared.
When the RDI Halcyon failed there were prototype models, I wonder if the amico will even have that.
I wanna see someone go to prison for this. I'd love to see Devastated Lost Cause and his fellow stooges explain that one away.
they should send a review unit to Digital Foundry!
This...has turned out pretty much as expected this whole time
What is even the point now? Who wants this thing, and why? It appears that the company is going to cut and run, the games look lame, and the console itself is WAY too expensive. What is the upside!?
And the cult is even turning on each other.
As I said before, I have my pop and popcorn ready so I can sit back and watch the lawsuits start rolling in.
Are we gonna get an omnibus collection that shows the rise and fall of the Intellivision Amico?
The whole concept of crowdfunding needs to be reworked and regulated. It bases its operation on the 'fool and his money' maxim. For every good product, there are ten that take the money and run.
Fantastic video guys, really hammered home the points on all fronts. I wonder if somebody has put together a playlist of all the podcast segments following the Amico saga in order from "weird idea" to "outright scam". It sounds like it would be incredible to watch but also exhausting emotionally. Would probably get repetitive fast.
I was banned from their pos Facebook group for posting articles there that questioned the validity of IE.
When will this horrible embarrassing fiasco finally come to an end? 19 million dollars later and we get a Switch version of Shark! Shark!...? Is that the pinnacle of what Scamarico's Intellivision will have achieved?
The only reason I wanted the Amico to come out was so the cult could upload videos pretending that they liked the games.
@@joshsimpson79 I don't know how much more of the cringiness of a bunch of middle-aged "gamers" fawning over some 2015 cellphone games we could take.

I was thinking that Earthworm Jim could Be theyre mascot, and then Tommy Tallarico. Ian was witty for thinking Tommy too 😄
12:30, I have never seen Ian this angry before, WOW! How the might have fallen, right Tommy Tallerico!!!
I'm glad I didn't pre-order that shit. No one is getting their refunds at all. I just heard that Intellivision abandoned the trademark for Amico.
I just had a thought... When Tommy said the Amico was on the "launchpad" maybe he actually meant it was on a plane being flown by Launchpad McQuack, and destined to crash.
I'm a 50 year old loser with a low IQ and no social awareness and have money to burn. Tommy would never lie to me to try to steal my money. We are best friends, we just lost touch after my pre order money cleared. He'll be back one day to show me some attention that I obviously don't get from anyone in my real day to day life.
Why hello
Fired up Ian will always be my favorite Ian.

2 years ago, Tommy Tallarico was all over UA-cam doing hundered of hours of interviews. He got into 3 or 4 arguments per week with me alone on random gaming channels. He launched into Bible-sized tirades on Atari Age trolled social media daily. So, when is the last time any of us has heard anything out of Tommy Tallarico?
Not since people started to ask "Where's my money." 😬

These people took the money for themselves and closed up shop. They need to be investigated by the feds.
You know, at this point I just feel grateful to Tommy and Co. Yes, seriously. He's given us so many yucks and schadenfreude-quality entertainment, in the process attracting a bunch of rubes who exposed themselves as the gullible pigeons they are -so much so they oughta be banned from using human words ever again and be forced to learn to communicate by cooing- ensuing even more cheap laughs.
I mean yeah, I know a bunch of investors flipped the bill for this little circus and you guys had to endure a lot of shit from its biggest clowns, the amicultist, but dammit I can't help it, the whole wreck as fascinating!

Worst part is, all the recent Intellivision revivals have been a vortex of suck.
I think we need an Amico segment playlist at this point.
It’s been a great source of LOLs , but when I read through the AtariAge thread and see Tommy praising disabled, lonely people like Alpha82 and dangling “I hope I get to thank you in person someday” in front of them… while implying that everything is funded and at an advanced state… it’s disgusting.
