Like previous Mustangs a sure way to get more power and performance out of your GT is with a cold air intake.
This kit from JLT will replaces your factory air box, with a black textured cold air intake which will look great under the hood.
Installation was rather simple since JLT designed this intake to bolt right on to the 2015, 2016 or 2017 GT Mustang with no permanent modifications. This kit can be installed in under an hour and really looks great under the hood. Make a note however, you will need a tune after it is installed.

CJ Pony Parts, JLT or Steeda? Cannot decide. Which is better?
Mine is on the way!
Next mod? New coolant reservoir...those factory ones are hideous! Great video once again guys.
Agreed
+Bill Tumas You're the man, Bill! Thanks for all the helpful DIYs!
With a 105mm housing it will need a tune, yes.
Have you guys got any numbers regarding gains after fitting these coupled with the racing exhaust?
CJ Pony Parts Do you always have to tune the car? or is it just with JLT CAIs??
I see there’s not a lot of slack there for the MAF sensor is this okay? I have the same issue with mine I installed
After ford reinstalled my original intake back, I ordered a new intake tube from JLT (previous one was damaged cause I used the wrong screws). SCT told me I didn't have to reprogram the car, it was already set from previous. I installed the new JLT intake, and it still ran the same way. Hard idle, barely runs. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Everything is in tight, and where it's suppose to be.
What is the size of the air filter 5×7 ? Or 5×9 and please is it OD for the sizing ?
1:51 was probably the hardest part to me tbh... couldn't get that damn thing off, or back on for nothin!!
im worried about water getting in. should i be worried about that? seems to be very little discussion on the topic?
Is it faster with induction? 0-60? 1/4 mile?
It worked on my mustang
Anyone else
😍😍😍
Wait so do they need a tune or not?
When using the SCT x4 for tuning , do you select the JLT carbon or Plastic? Kinda confused on which is which for this specific intake
+keaunta williams Whichever your tube is made up, plastic is more common.
silly question but what kind of sound will it add with a Roush axleback and an MRT H-pipe?
You will hear more intake sounds with t he JLT but a lot of it will be drowned out with that exhaust.
I just bought it yesterday, and I wanna tune it, should I install it and send the data log to the tuner or I send it than I install it ?
Your tuner should be able to provide a file for the JLT and then you can datalog and they can tweek it. The car will run very poorly with the JLT and no tune.
There are two significant points left out of the video. First, you DO NOT use the same factory screws when installing the MAF to the intake tube. JLT provides 2 machine thread screws that fit their intake tube. The Torx head screws from the factory are a different thread which will cross thread if you try to use them. Second, Bill doesn’t mention the installation of the gasket on the MAF that JLT also provides and has to be installed. How they could not provide these key points on an install of a part as critical to the operation of the car as a MAF is just irresponsible. I expected more from CJ Pony.
Yup, ended up cross threading with the original bolts🥴
My 2017 GT doesn't have but three hoses and these intakes have 4 connectors how do I get a round this? thanks
dunnigan66 did you ever figure it out? i ran into the same problem and it's causing a vacuum leak and check engine light with it installed.
I am planning on buying one for my 2015 stang, I have got a question. what if I install the intake but not the tune? what are the consequences? will I still gain some hp and torque? Will the check engine turn on?
The tune is required, it will not run right without it.
Will I need any other mods to run this intake and tune? And will the tune give me any mechanical issues?
The tune and cold air will work together, no other mods are needed. A proper tune will increase horsepower and torque without causing any problems.
Hey Bill. I ordered my JLT from you guys for my 15 GT, and just awaiting shipment. Im also considering ordering a BBK 85mm throttle body from you guys as well. Will I have any fitment issues or need any additional parts for fitment? Any thoughts on the BBK 85mm for a mild build? Thanks...
I have not used the BBK for anything yet so I really have no opinion on it at this time. I don't see you having any fitment issues, the JLT coupler can usually be stretched for larger throttle bodies when needed.
How do i get rid of the sound tube? I as hoping it would show it the video but you didn't.
Richard Yazzie The JLT comes with a block off for the tube. It is held in place by clips and there is a bolt on the firewall in the engine bay that has to be removed and it kind of a pain to get to. If you watch the Roush supercharger install we showed how to remove it towards the beginning.
I was told by ford mechanic that CAI are the worse thing you can do to your engine. He said people who put a custom intake are ones that use it for the track, where the car is only running for a few hours opposed to everyday driver.
+Alexander The Greek You have been misinformed. CAI is good for your car will help it to breathe more freely and raise the quality of air it pulls in.
I was told it can suck up water into the engine with this intake, is that true?
Alexander The Greek Highly doubt it. Tons of people have owned and installed this without issue but if your worried buy a sealed airaid intake.
+Alexander The Greek it may happen if the filter itself is like near the wheel arch but that too in puddles or flood scenarios. It didn't happen if u have resonators that's for sure. Do u have resonators with a CAI?
Can you reuse this intake if I added a paxton supercharger?
No the Paxton will have its own inlet.
Wouldn't the water from the hood vent get into the intake on rainy days? It seems to be positioned right above the intake
+mazdalex6 Thats one of the main reasons the Airaids sealed box are so popular i feel.
is this better than gt350 cold air intake. i have power pack 3 musta g gt
I would say they are within a few HP of each other, in both cases the tune accounts for a lot of the power gains.
So I bought the JLT cold air intake and I have a tuner for the tune but I'm wondering I have 900 Miles on the car and its still technically in the break in period. I'm sure its broken in by now. Should I wait for a couple thousand miles more before the install? Would it matter whether the engine is broken in or not before adding this? Or will it affect the break in?
Brian M I had a supercharger on mine at 500 miles. There is no reason at all not to add your tuner and JLT at your mileage.
Bill Tumas Thanks
Bill Tumas by using the tuner for the air intake, will that void manufacture warranty or not?
Alberto Pabon Check with your local dealer regarding warranty
Can I tune it with a sctx4 canned tunes?
yea I ran it for about 3 days like that but it made a thump sound in the throttle body every 5-10 seconds and my downshifts are really poor, returned to stock until I get a lund tune
I recently bought a used mustang and it came with a jlt cold air but I don’t know if it had been tuned or not how would I find out
You cant turn on the car if it wasn’t tuned.
@@Salman_Makki not true
@@ahmadpearson5500 Big cold airs like jlt are tune required. I’ve tried before. It stalls immediately after you turn it on. Hope it helps.
@@Salman_Makki I didn’t even know , thanks for the info
My torns off why
can these parts work on the v6 model?
No this kit is for the 5.0 only but I am sure there will be kits available eventually for the V6.
Is a tune something a novice can do? Thanks.
For this application, yes. An SCT X4 or Lund Racing nGauge would be your best bet for installing the JLT Intake. Give our Customer Service team a call at 1-800-888-6473 if you have any more questions!

will or wont require a tune...
Requires a tune
Bill Tumas How wold you tune it?
***** We offer SCt X4 tuners with support for the JLT
That's not a "Cold Air" Intake, its a short ram intake, cold air intakes are usually installed in the wheelwell.
It is a cold air by definition because it draws cool air from outside the engine bay.
ehhhhh I see your point
😂😂😂😂🤫
i highly doubt you would need a tune for this. the mass airflow sensor will just tell the CPU to add more fuel, thus giving you more horse power..... in a paradoxical way lol. and you might get like +2 horsepower from cooler air, but that is about it.
You absolutely need a tune. The MAF housing is larger and the computer will not be able to properly compensate. The tune combines with the JLT will show a solid gain on the 15, some tuners have seen around 20 hp
ok, sorry for the confusion! i didn't know about these super computer cars now days haha. im sure a tune will use the intake to its fullest abilities.
