I have been on the Croydon Tramlink and I like how the trams serve South London including Wimbledon, Central Croydon, Elmers End, Beckenham Junction and Addington Village. And the Variobahn trams are so quiet, quick and smooth.

3:09 I saw and heard the spring switch reset itself for the oncoming up tram. We had a spring switch on CN (Canadian National) railway at the south end of the former passing siding at Gormley in Richmond Hill, Ontario; it has been removed since it's double tracking throughout there now. That was on the Bala Subdivision. If I recall correctly, the northbounds would always go straight through and bypass the passing siding, but the southbounds would go into the passing siding if required for a passing meet. To save the dispatcher attention and time, the south end spring switch would always reset itself automatically after the southbound train in the passing siding exited back onto the main track. It was set to a much slower speed of resetting if I am still correct, so that it wouldn't have to clack each and every time a wheelset would go through it.

Anthony. Do you have any spring switches on your mainline operations over there ? It seems that with directional running on most lines, that might make sense at times ??? Here in the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area (GTHA), we have almost no directional running on mainlines; they are almost all bidirectional with signalling for both directions. I am embarrassed to say that I think that we are dinosaurs over here. You are a hundred years ahead of us over on that side of the pond; I am jealous !

The trams operarate on a drive by sight basis, the same as you and I have to drive our cars. They are obviously harder to stop but are driven very cautiously in shared spaces. The spring points are consequently only passed over at relatively slow speed and the driver is able to see that they are correctly set when approaching from the facing direction. I imagine the signalling system also checks them.

i love the woman who waved at the camera 😂 also do you think the single tracks will ever be upgraded for 2 tracks or stay single?

Can't imagine that extra tracks will ever be justified.
