Now that the dust has settled just a little, what do you guys think about the character? Should he be buffed/nerfed, or do we need to wait and see what players will discover?
I've labbed him to death and talked with top pro players like Dragon and Quan needs buffs on his Pokes. Dragon dropped him because of his slow pokes that are full combo punishable by 5+ characters and poke punishable by nearly everyone. At the very least he needs D1 to be 7f startup and -8 on block. The other thing is his get off me tool EXDB3 has multiple glitches and doesn't work on multiple moves and specials like Raiden's Storm Cell and his Electric Fly, his S4xxDF2 does a full combo punish. Sub Zero can do a full combo punish with S4xxDF4 into Instant Air Divekick or just punish with regular slide that ignores it completely. He struggles against several Rushdown characters that have decent to great frame data. Raiden is a horrible matchup and this may seem hyperbole but it's not. Raiden/Kano can do starter into Storm Cell and make it safe and gapless with Kano Ball and it's +10 on block!!! Quans fastest poke is 9f startup and -10 on block, his D3 is 11f & -7 and his D4 is 13f startup -6ob. Raiden can loop StormCell over and over every time doing 10% chip and 3% chip if you flawless block every time. Quan has no way to take his turn back other than hoping they do their followup late and spending bar on Sky Drop which is wonky, inconsistent and easily beat by Raiden with Shocker, StormCell. That's only if he doesn't do his next string within 5f of Kano Ball ending.. Raiden is always +10 after this meaning he can do his slow 17f advancing Mid into StormCell on loop and Quan can't get his poke out. Where not even gonna talk about Johnny, Kenshi and Ashrah. NRS please do these changes and I believe Quan would be a great character. I love his design just his pokes are very bad up close and the 1BAR DB3 is not working vs several moves!!!?
Frost assist has been pretty fun to use as well. You get a combo off back 2 and back 3 with her. Also, after the stand 4 in your back 3,4 bnb, if you do EX tentacle, you get a mixup. Hit with the tentacle, then do back 2. After back 2, you can either do frost freeze, or an ex overhead projectile. Both hit pretty meaty and you are rewarded with a small combo for the overhead, and the usual bmb for the low option.
@Saber_fgc the combo for overhead is just a stand 4 into tele. If you find another combo, def lmk. Make sure not to accidentally charge the back 2 when they bounce off the ground from the ex tentacle. I tend to use the ex overhead when they like to use wake up armor as it can blow that up vs certain char.(haven't tested on the char that go super far on armor like baraka or sub
My biggest problem with Quan Chi is that his pokes are horrible close up and that's the tool every character uses to get out of pressure and take back your turns. Quan really struggles with this. In fact Raiden/Kano can do anything into Storm Cell and make it +10 on block with Kano Ball which makes Quan unable to do any poke or string because Raiden can do his F2 advancing Mid and beat any of Quans pokes. This is really bad for Quan in multiple matchups, mainly struggling against Rushdown. Quan is really good at neutral range and has great Setplay and decent zoning. At the highest level zoning isn't the strongest in this meta but it's useable but so many characters have F Neutral tools that completely ignores zoning. He is a Glass Cannon and loop you to death. My requested buffs for Quan which I think are fair are: He needs a 7f D1 that's -8 on block. They can reduce the range a bit to compensate. They need to fix his EXDB3 gravity push portal so moves can't glitch through it like Raidens Storm Cell his S4xxDF2 his Superman fly and Sub Zero's Slide and Instant Air Divekick after S4/D4.
This was very useful. I hate juggles in these games and hate how dependent most combos are on them in this games especially, it was very lazy work to cut cost on animations
I always main Quan but I am not getting on with him in mk1 at all. It's come across they were scared to released him too strong. His pokes are an outrage tbh combined with lowest HP too. Low scoop being two bar. I am not calling for buffs quite yet but I am getting rolled on defence. 9F -10 D1, slow af startup on moves. His 2 is a 12f high full of gaps. His stand 1 has zero range and whiff issues. His punish game sucks. Ill keep trying but once their in Quan can't do anything. Kinda wish his straight skull did 7% and had better frames too.
but its not a poke. its a sweep that knocks down. Now you have to worry about a wake up or a delayed wakeup. This does not give you your turn back at all. Anyone that has played fighting games for even a month would know this is a bad idea, and doesn't solve his issue.

He gets beat in frame data by other zoners that don't need to setup a portal to get what he does... and in some cases even better. Buddy your inexperience in fighting games is showing.
@dancecrew1996 tell me how many characters can do a combo from full screen then. His frames do suck but he has one of the best zoning. U can't have both at the same time or the character will end up broken like Sindel. Only his health needs a buff and some pokes. And if he sucks then what? fatal blow 510-520 damage from 1,3 starter is possible. no meter, no kameo. F4 seems to scale the FB pretty hard somehow. 13, S4, 12~FB
