THIS 5 FOOT DEAD COTTON WOOD TREE WAS WAITING FOR ME AND MY McCULLOCH PRO MAC 850 TO COME OVER AND PUT IT OUT ITS MISERY, McCULLOCH PRO MAC 850.. FALLING TREES
Awesome, don't know what else to say.Im a fan for life Billy. And i just found your channel a few days ago.Love the work.I have my dads 7-10 A from the early 70s,i hope to get it running again one of these days in memory of all the work he did with it back then. Rob
BILLY THANKS FOR THOSE WORDS OF WISDOM AT THE END.THIS IS WHERE I AM NOW IN MY JOURNEY OF LIFE, LOSING A LOT OF MY PHYSICAL TALENT, LEARNING TO ACCEPT IT.
Always love watching your stuff Buckin'. Great saws, great axes and a job well done! Looking forward to being able to load up an old saw and my Buckin' 2 bit in the old crewcab and head out to make some chips!!! Thanks for all you put into the channel for us.
thankyou for another great video. your work takes 20 years off my life. they remind me of the great times i had just working, when i was the best at what i made my living at.
I know this is an old video but I found your channel a month or so ago and have watched so many while stuck in my home.. You do know your business and your kindness is a great breath of fresh air, but the greatest part is you sound like my uncle Ben who lived in Moose Jaw , Saskatchewan, he has been gone 25 yrs now but like you, he loved the woods. when I was young he would come to see us in Washington and I believe he timed it so he could split logs with me and tell his stories. My folks loved the old wood burner from my Grandpas old farm so every year I split 5 plus cord of wood. Thank you for the reminders..
Thanks for the cool videos man. This is the first/only channel I've ever subscribed to. Billy you have inspired me to start collecting/using old axes/old saws. I just purchased a pro mac 55, bartered for a 066 and I'm eying up 80/800 series mcculloch's. I've also started splitting firewood(oak) w/ axes rather then my normal maul. I hated the flick at first because I thought I lost all power/impact. But once I figured it out it's natural now. Keep on Keepin on man
hey bud, i used to b e the same as you, but im gunna recomend skadill and tax me im canadian, allways great content. nothing like the buckin army though
The most Fascinating part to me was when you cut the second Cottonwood and it 'Jumped" in the air! That made me sit back and do an "Wow, you got to be patient and read everything or I might get in trouble". Thanks Buckin!
Pretty cool.. I had a 1948 McCulloch, It was a scrap pick up find. I tore it apart, cleaned it up. made 13 new hand mad gaskets for all parts. Spent a few day figuring out the fuel ratio and richness. Finally got it running and made a few cuts on a log, big heavey chips :) ... nothing like gear drivin chain on a old saw!
Nice to hear your Mom's band at the end, haven't heard that one for a while! Nice work on the trees, looked like you were having fun, I know you were :) John's going to love it!! Be safe my friend :)
HEY Billy!!!! I'm back😁! I just wanted to tell you great video and the support and subscriber numbers have exploded since I've been away. Sure missed watching you and your information/ inspirational videos. I have to play catch-up again, but keep up the fantastic work!!!
Fortunately we don't have any cottonwood trees in the UK but I did have two dead beech trees a couple of weeks ago they can be very unpredictable devils so always carry spare underwear in my truck lol.great video Billy. Stay safe out there
I hope to one day trust my tree felling enough to park my truck that close. Just found your videos today and successfully cut down a leaner with your guidance, thank you!
dear Buckin, I'm rained out today.. no gurgle from me own saws, but yours is music to the ears haha ... axes are truly neat been around for along time kinda like ole Buckin !! nice touch taken it out with yer Ma... peace friend
I always find my self rewatching your older vids again and again and I always catch something that I didnt b4 when I first started watching and being that this is my second year in the tree business I'm always up for learning something new.. but in this video when you say stay on your buck do you mean keeping your bar in and constantly cutting without getting pinched ??
Hello from N.C. All my dad use to run was the old Mac . He had a old 440 when I was six and ran all the models up to about 25 years ago 800, double eagle 80 805 and the 850 .them saws would sound good about dark when he was cutting logs or pulpwood . He could fix a chain that wood do the biz!
good video pal. cottonwoods are a funny critter slimy, brittle, heavy ole things. Where I grew up in eastern oregon had a 7-8 footer alive and well in the front yard but man did it leave a mess for leaves and storm damage. The small town I went to school has some along the highway much bigger than above mentioned tree, I think the highway department and city had one removed because it was all rotten and starting to die...........hung over the highway and sidewalk, it was 13 ft 10 inches where they high stumped it to clear a nice 2×6 three rail fence.
I just plowed the snow out of the yard and off the driveway, and I'm supposed to be working on the roof of the chicken hut, and here I am watching Buckin' Billy while the afternoon is half worn away. (Feb 13, 2021) But at least I'm not watching them roast Tromp, poor guy. I've got the littlest Husqy they make, the one-handed tree topper. That's for pruning fruit trees. It doesn't have a compression release, and you have to stand on the hanger loop to crank it!
Buckin! Never subscribed to any channels before but I run a saw and play drums so I couldn't resist. Awesome stuff man! -Bogie from Monterey, California.
These big miserable cottonwoods here in Montana usually have 4-5 tops in them at least 2-3 feet in diameter, and hanging out over structures or utilities. May have to dismantle from a bucket. Terrible to split and no good to burn. But those Oyster mushrooms that grow on them are good! Good work Sir!
Billy you're not gonna belive this but two days ago I was looking at buying a big 850 gear driven Mac. I didn't because I had little to no information on the power etc. of the saw. crazy how things work out. I just seen your video this morning.
Great job! I don't know how the rest of you guys feel but you're definitely on my bucket list of people to meet! I like that your videos have more than one message!
A question so I better understand. I had thought that when you create the two separate hinges on a tree with a rotted out center, that these two hinges need to be in line with each other. Maybe it's me not seeing it right, but it looks like your hinges are parallel, but not in line. If your hinges are not in line, is this an OK practice? Depending on situation of course. 12:35
ha!-my last name is Frazier too, lol only Jimmy Frazier-i sure love ur videos, as my later dad would of liked watching them also. he cut timber all his life too, only no climbing up into the trees.
Quality video, keep it up. Only channel I tune in for on the regular 🙌🙌🙌. Question. Could you do a video on bar maintenance? I have a 32" bar on my big saw and it cuts like hell. Feels like the chain doesn't open up the cut enough and there is some pinching going on. I had this same issue a while back with a 25 and I could never remedy it. Ended up just buying a new one.
Tom Saad: Hi Tom. 2 questions for you. 1) Did you clean out the grooves on your bar? Use a groove cleaning tool that does not taper like a screwdriver. It does better. 2) Did you geease the tip of the bar? If it is not a Stihl bar you should find grease holes. Next roll the wheel or sprocket on the tip. Then send more grease through and out the ither side. This is for loosening up if needed, lubrication of course, and flushing out dirt etc. If the groove turns out to be just too tight then a saw shop can fix it easily. The last I heard, Baileys sold a bar maintenance tool for this. While you are there you may want to tune up the rails carefully with a flat file. By the way, are you sure you have the right chain gauge? The drivers come in different thicknesses. If it is .050" bar, an American dime will just fit in it. Roll it up & down to check groove.
Michael Dougfir Mike, Thanks for the imput. I cleaned the bar real good last night. She was loaded pretty good with gunk. My bar tip wasnt spinning good either and I got her spinning nice. Did a quick test cut, and I think this may have solved my issue. The chain sure is moving nice and smooth now, and I would think its going to oil much better.
Michael Dougfir, fyi, I have been running saw for 45 years...and don't remember the last time I greased a bar tip. Bar oil provides adequate lubrication. I dont recall ever having a bar tip fail, either, except from abuse.
Hey Buckin, You mention "get the bottom" before initiating your first cut. What does that mean? Also, what do you mean by "Stay on yer buck. Leave no room for redirecting in big wood." What do you mean by that? Many thanks, from a new wooded-lot homeowner who just power-saw-felled his first one (dead but solid 10" oak) this afternoon. I used a borrowed Husqvarna 235 while I wait for my new Echo CS-590 to go on sale in a week. :)
Hi Billy Sam the Gardener from England. Been watching the channel for a cup. of years. LOVE the vibe great work keep it coming. What is the heat check & Wadker? on the handle end. Pretty exited to see Axe men On history 11 July? hope its the same date this end. Peace & Love.
Cottonwoods provide great shade and the rustling of the leaves is just beautiful but they are a pain in the you know where to pick up after and get rid of when they die and I'm from Nebraska and that's about all we have for trees lol
Those Cottonwoods are like the Popular trees we have up here in Nova Scotia , Damm things rot inside out and loose thier bark as they rot , Standing up with little or no support till the frost or high winds of the ice storms take em out
Hey Buckin' - I know this is an old episode but I was wondering where you order those circular wedges from. Thanks and keep being kind. (love that phrase) Your friend, Mark
another fine video good sir I do have to ask do u wear chap liners haven't noticed any chaps .congrats on the buckin special John hope it serves u well and as always stay safe chop logs
hey buckin....was wondering why i get a better cut hand filling than an oregon bench grinder at proper settings....long time veiwer....also how do u make it look so easy...lol
On the scale of "firewood that does what I want" where does cottonwood sit with you guys? I have tried to heat with both AZ and Northern CA cottonwood and have been disappointed by the wood from both locals.
it is miserable to split, with a twisted and homogenous grain. It ranks low in BTU's , burns up real quick, smells like piss sometimes when it burns, and produces a lot of ash. But if you have a good bed of coals going in a nice tight stove, you can put a somewhat damp or uncured big chunk in, damp it down good it may burn all night.
Hello Buckin', I am new to your channel, and I have a question. You mention in the video to stay on the Buck and leave no room for redirect. I just want to know what you mean by this. I probably know, but would like to make sure I am not miss reading it. Thank you. I find you are really really accurate with your falling, and have been trying to do the same. Thanks again.

That wedge is fitted so well into the handle - after the Watca treatment I`d be tempted not to bang a pin into it. (and I like my pinned handles)

Just curious BRS, why did it take 3 yrs for you to help your friend get those cottonwood down?
Hey buckin and crew. Can someone tell me what “wadka” is? The stuff buckin is putting on the wedge.
his way of saying Watco, (Danish Oil) Welcome to the channel buddy.
Micromac Macca Is that all it is ?
Also trying to learn the lingo, when he says “Dirty” in describing trees-does that mean like dangerous?
Maybe I missed it, but why didn't you fall the 5fter into the lean and not into the fence? Because the orientation of the rot hole?
Ok. Me and my 7 year old daughter, Lily, are asking. What's redirecting? Is that when 2 segments roll opposite of eachother?
What's that stuff you use to soak your axe handle to head joint? I never heard of it in the UK??
WATCO DANISH
You have some nice running saws.
THX MERRY CHRISTMAS
Nice cuttin' Buckin'!!!
Hold it a second... Is that ,, Yes it is , The Famous Bixler
