I was at the June retreat and it was while I was there that I discovered that they had changed the Rentista requirements. Lucky for me, I had just been approved in May of this year and I will be finalizing everything in the next few weeks.
I was one of those people that did the $60k thing and even I thought it was weird at the time. LOL I figured they were terming it as an investment of sorts because the bank would likely be using my money as they held it, so it was technically an investment?? When I told the lawyer there at the retreat of my status, he was shocked that I had gotten approved because they stopped allowing that method in Feb of 2023 and I had applied in Aug of 2023.
I can only assume that the immigration department was so backed up that they decided that they would continue to except any applications that had been submitted within a certain time window after the announcement, but never told the public that. God blessed me, because I would not have been able to do the Rentista the other way that they have it now and would have instead needed to do the investment visa (which I was not prepared to do at the time) since I am also not retired and therefore can't do the pensionado.

Hey! My wife and I will be down in late October to mid-November. We would like to meet and buy you breakfast/lunch/dinner your choice and discuss moving to Costa Rica. Tentación en Quepos? Fuego brewery?

Since you've been in Costa Rica for a long time, are you thinking of naturalizing and becoming a Costa Rican citizen since they offer dual citizenship now?

Sarah, thanks. Do you ever have to return to the U.S. to maintain your dual-citizenship (i.e., the U.S. citizenship)?

Is rentista or inversionista better than pensianado? Are there different benefits?

Marriage to CR citizen may still require months, paperwork and a good attorney (friends in middle of this now)
