Great vid nice tips!
I just got back from a Milky Way adventure in Wyoming. The Moulton barns in Grand Teton NP were awesome subjects below the MW. I know April is a great time for the Milky Way arch over the barns, but the August Milky Way images I captured made for a grand time and terrific images. Mirror Lake, in Medicine Bow National Forest, made for an excellent star shooting night, but the Milky Way was too far left of the mountains to be reflected in the water. Maybe I should have moved farther right along the shoreline and the MW would have been above the mountain and reflecting. Without the Milky Way reflection and filling the sky, the stars still made for excellent images. During the night, I helped several beginning Milky Way photographers. We had fun using low level lighting to reveal the barns and surrounding landscape. I suggested they check out your youtube videos, Aaron, along with Alyn Wallace and Richard Tatti.
Thanks for telling them about me, Jim! Your experience those nights sound like they went well even with the timing! That’s awesome to hear! Thanks for continuing to come back to my channel and watching my lessons! 😃 -Aaron
I live in Hurricane! Where is Hoodoo Village? I want to try milky way photos with my elopement couples! This looks like the perfect spot to test them out! Google was no help lol.
Hey Aaron I am only getting a bunch of sharp stars but none of the "gas" portion of the Milky Way. I use Stellarium & PhotoPills to locate the Milky Way so I know I am on it. Can you point me in the right direction. I am using a Canon 6D and a 5mm 1.8 lens and around 15 seconds at ISO640. I appreciate it!
Great video as always. Thank you for the time and hard work it takes to put these out. If you're ever in Colorado and want to shoot, drop me a line. --Ben
Thanks, Ben and I absolutely hope to be in Colorado more this next year so I will definitely be hitting you up! 😃 -Aaron
Does PhotoPills (or any other app you know of) allow me to look ahead in time, to see the orientation of the Milky Way in the sky at a particular date. Example: September 7, 2124, 4 AM, Oklahoma.
I haven't even been out once for this Milky Way Season. Gas prices suck!!!
Oh man, Anthony, you said it!! The change in cost has been killing me! Workshops I priced out based on the “high” prediction of $3.50 gas was just useless this year! It has been brutal! Hope you get out soon now that prices have become as cheap as $4 …. 🤨 sigh I can’t wait for things to come down, that is for sure! -Aaron
Aaron, Hey thanks for putting this show together, very helpful.
Question, when shooting at the beach on sand, are you placing the tripod right on the sand or are you using some type of "feet"? I'm concerned about slight settling movement. I thought about a piece of plywood as a base. What about shooting where it is a little wet? Your ideas?
Heya Tim! Honestly when I am on the beach I am fine to use my regular Feisol tripod feet without any concern. That said, always on sand especially where water is going around the base, EXPECT it to settle for a while. Usually when it seems unsteady - those times when the receding tide hasn't just left it hard sand - I will push the tripod into the sand extra and let it settle. THEN the key is to not walk around at all. Stay in place! Especially don't shift your weight or step near your tripod legs. You WILL move it. Just be careful to only move when your shutter isn't open and you are fine! Especially for 8-15 second captures. Longer than that you might have to stay far from the water line so you don't get waves moving you around. Thanks for the question, Tim! Stoked you came back again for another one of my videos! :D -Aaron
@@PhotogAdventures Thanks for your experience on this matter. This will be a light painting so, I almost always use a remotes for the shutter. Now, if I can stop "chimping" to check the image, I'll be fine. You have me hooked.
