Thanks. As a newbie to VPN’s I really needed some info. On the internet you run into so much info its hard to tell right from wrong! Nord seemed to be the best one I could find.
So, I got NordVPN for my trip to China. I had used Express VPN on previous trips but I noticed that NordVPN advertised itself as better for China. When I got to China I never could connect. I finally canceled my subscription. The service rep asked why I wanted to cancel and I said because I'm in China and it doesn't work. The rep said there is a special setup for China and went on to describe a quite lengthy procedure that frankly was beyond my scope and too much trouble. It would have been nice if Nord had advertised the special requirements for China and maybe had a tutorial for it or if the rep had offered to walk me through the procedure.

Well, there's a lot of different troubleshooting things you can do here. First, make sure your streaming box is connected to the fastest available WiFi network (i.e. 5Ghz instead of 2.4). Next, I would switch to different VPN servers or even different connection protocols if that's an option on your box. Just keep playing with the settings to find what works.

They clarified that there was no need to use an extension in my browser if I already had installed thee VPN on my PC (as some forums had suggested using both!). I also asked them a question related to uTorrent. This was their reply: "Additionally, we recommend using the qBitTorrent application set up with these settings: 1. Go to Tools>Options>Connection click on Listening port "Random" 2. Set the Global maximum number of connections to 125 and Maximum number of connections per torrent to 25. " I included the above for (1) information, and (2) for "evidence" that they provide more than just a form letter!

Not every feature is available on every platform. I don't know for sure (you might want to ask them directly), but they might not offer a kill switch for Firestick apps.

I've use both (as in, I have an active subscription to both and I live as an expat in Asia) so I don't think you can go wrong either way. For Apple TV, I've found ExpressVPN has a better router app setup and/or SmartDNS option that can work.

Great tutorial. There is one question that I cannot seem to find an answer for. Apparently you can connect up to 6 devices with one NordVPN account. Say I have used up all 6 devices with NordVPN and then I lose one of the devices (e.g. mobile phone). Is it possible to then install it on a new device even though it still exists on the lost device? i have a question that may be silly, but i really want to know.. im on my main pc, which is connected via ethernet, and has nordvpn, connected to server.. its protected.. my reason for using this is mainly privacy and dont want to be spied on. my fiance gets on the net via wifi on the xbox one... which is NOT on vpn.. her using wifi will not expose my true ip or identity to whatever im doing on my MAIN pc right? like downloading a torrent.. honestly i dont do that anymore, have not for years, but just in case. i would venture to say no but want to make sure

No, unfortunately not. It will only cover your computer. You would need to install it on your router in order for everything else in your house to be covered. It's possible but a bit harder to do.

+caleb2003 Great question. The NordVPN phone app was useful for its purpose - setting up the VPN connections on the phone. After that, I just deleted the app because it was no longer of use. The computer app, on the other hand, is probably one of the better ones I've seen. Very intuitive but also very customizable for the advanced user.

It's possible to download a Chrome extension, but that's really unnecessary. If you use the application on your computer, you have the option to choose your server and it will protect you no matter what program you're using.

There's no difference, Michael. A VPN connects over any internet connection - home internet, free internet, whatever. It works exactly the same and protects you in all cases.
Good tutorial but I wouldn't recommend uninstalling the mobile client once the VPN is set up since many advanced features are available in the app set up menu which provide additional protections.

That is correct, it will be encrypted. Although Gmail is already quite secure, this adds an extra layer of security between your computer and the first server.
?? Not sure of your question, being EVERYONE has a wifi that they have to sign-into with a password. A VPN service is different, it encrypts your info when browsing. It is a protection that many companies, government and other securities use. In my opinion it's a must if you have a cell phone and walk into a public wifi such as Starbuck's or any major Store and you use their internet.
A VPN can do two things for you here. First, a VPN will help whenever you connect to a wifi outside of your home or work (like an airport, coffee shop, etc.). Second, a VPN will secure your data through your ISP (Internet Service Provider), which can be a big plus.
So if I don't load a VPN on my phone does it work for all my devices that are connected to the wifi or would I have to download it on my computer that the router is connected to
To make the VPN work on all devices connected to WiFi, you would need to have the VPN set up on your WiFi router. Otherwise, you'll need to install the software on each device you want to use.

If you play the game only on your phone, using a VPN will mask your IP address anytime you use your phone. If you put it on your router, it will change the IP address of all devices that connect through the router.

The app is just a means to set up the VPN configuration in the settings. Things have changed since this tutorial was filmed and I find the app has more value than it used to, but the truth is that you can turn the VPN on and off through the settings app on your phone - you don't need the app in many cases.
Hello, great vid! Please help! I purchased a 1 month subscription to Nord Vpn, but then was never given the option to download, like I see you doing. I keep starting over and logging back on, but no option to download for mac, etc.
Did you purchase the subscription on your mobile device or on your desktop/laptop? If it wasn't through the app store, you'll have received an email confirmation about your subscription and they'll tell you how to log in and download from there.
I have two PC's one on Win 7 (my main one) one on Win 10 attached to my TV and several phones and tablets. My PC's are hard wired from the internet box (mind blank) as I always felt it was safer. The box sits on the Win 10 PC. When I buy Nord where is it exactly? Do I have it on both PC's and WI FI devices? Glad you enjoyed the video, Mo. The answer to your questions is that you can do it a number of ways. It sounds like the easiest way would be to set up the VPN on your router, although this has its own drawbacks. The other option is to install the NordVPN software on each device separately. It might take you a few minutes for each device but it's not too hard. The only drawback here is that with NordVPN you can only connect 6 devices at one time (as opposed to unlimited devices connecting to your router). Does that make sense?
NordVPN's CyberSec feature works whether you're on WiFi or cellular data, although on a phone I think it only does ad blocking, not spyware/malware blocking. I'm not 100% sure about that, so you might want to contact NordVPN's customer support and ask them.
On the "Browse Servers" list, you can click on the "..." to see the option for "Browse all servers" in order to pick a specific server within the country. Hope that helps!
Thanks, I am using it on a Shield and Firestick and I don't see the three dotss anywhere. It gives me the choices of Home, All Countries, Specialty Servers, and Settings, It only allows me to click on the country and it picks the server for me. @@AllThingsSecured
Hey Joseph! Thanks for the comment. I personally use an Apple TV so I'm not 100% sure how it works with an Nvidia Shield box. Many of the Android-based boxes are easy to add a VPN to but if not, you can also work using what's known as SmartDNS. It's easier to set up on these TV box sets. Hmm...if by downloading movies illegally, I don't have a comment. Have you considered subscribing to a service like Netflix or Amazon Prime? It's not that expensive and so much better than the antiquated practice of torrenting a video.
We have the Apple extreme router, and I see your recommendation for tomato router with this particular VPN. Is it possible to use a tomato VPN router that is branches off the extreme? No, you don't have to use a specific browser. Once you connect, your entire device connection is secured.

Each device has it's own IP address. Your fiance getting on the Xbox will not reveal your main computer IP address since they are different.

That is correct, it will be encrypted. Although Gmail is already quite secure, this adds an extra layer of security between your computer and the first server.

It is a protection that many companies, government and other securities use. In my opinion it's a must if you have a cell phone and walk into a public wifi such as Starbuck's or any major Store and you use their internet.

The app is just a means to set up the VPN configuration in the settings. Things have changed since this tutorial was filmed and I find the app has more value than it used to, but the truth is that you can turn the VPN on and off through the settings app on your phone - you don't need the app in many cases.

Did you purchase the subscription on your mobile device or on your desktop/laptop? If it wasn't through the app store, you'll have received an email confirmation about your subscription and they'll tell you how to log in and download from there.
I have two PC's one on Win 7 (my main one) one on Win 10 attached to my TV and several phones and tablets. My PC's are hard wired from the internet box (mind blank) as I always felt it was safer. The box sits on the Win 10 PC. When I buy Nord where is it exactly? Do I have it on both PC's and WI FI devices? The answer to your questions is that you can do it a number of ways. It sounds like the easiest way would be to set up the VPN on your router, although this has its own drawbacks. The other option is to install the NordVPN software on each device separately. It might take you a few minutes for each device but it's not too hard. The only drawback here is that with NordVPN you can only connect 6 devices at one time (as opposed to unlimited devices connecting to your router).

On the "Browse Servers" list, you can click on the "..." to see the option for "Browse all servers" in order to pick a specific server within the country. Hope that helps!
Thanks, I am using it on a Shield and Firestick and I don't see the three dotss anywhere. It gives me the choices of Home, All Countries, Specialty Servers, and Settings, It only allows me to click on the country and it picks the server for me. @@AllThingsSecured

Hey Joseph! Thanks for the comment. I personally use an Apple TV so I'm not 100% sure how it works with an Nvidia Shield box. Many of the Android-based boxes are easy to add a VPN to but if not, you can also work using what's known as SmartDNS. It's easier to set up on these TV box sets.
