    One of the best van builds I’ve seen w lots of great ideas.
    Do you ever wish you had a 4 wheel drive truck like a 3/4 ton or one ton full size Ford truck with a camper?

    • @JakeandHeather
      @JakeandHeather  2 роки тому

      Yes, many times hahah. Especially bc I got rid of my 6.6 duramax to buy this van. The sprinters little 3.0 v6 diesel gets the job done but nothing like a truck is capable of. There are pros and cons to each. If you plan on spending more time on forest roads and crossing to the most epic spots available a truck and camper is the better way. But for full time living the convenience of a van is hard to beat

    Great build! Curious to know more about the issue that prompted an engine replacement? I'm considering a 2008, coincidentally in the Philly area, too.

    • @JakeandHeather
      @JakeandHeather  3 роки тому

      I believe it came down to poor maintenance from previous owners. We were going up a very steep incline in upstate NY and spun a main bearing. Hard to say exactly why it happened, could of been oil starvation. These vans don't have an oil pressure sensor believe it or not

    • @Serf_dumb
      @Serf_dumb 3 роки тому

      @@JakeandHeather yeah, I would've guessed poor maintenance too. Diesels have their reputation for being long-lasting for good reason, especially the pre-DEF models.

  • @dlg5485
    @dlg5485 3 роки тому +1

    800amp hrs isn't necessarily overkill. It all depends on your lifestyle. Some people just sleep in their van and spend the rest of their time outside, while others spend a lot of time inside... cooking, watching movies, listening to music, etc. In my opinion, there's no such thing as too much power because it gives you total freedom, so you never have to think about it at all.

    • @JakeEarp
      @JakeEarp 3 роки тому

      That is extremely well said!!

    • @JakeandHeather
      @JakeandHeather  3 роки тому +1

      Yes! That is our exact thought process behind it. Since we live in the van full time, it made more sense to be able to just forget about it completely, knowing we would have electricity we needed. It’s more relaxing to not stress wether the batteries are full or we need to find a sunny parking spot. That’s the great thing about this lifestyle. There is no right or wrong way to do it, and you can do it however you like!! Cheers 🤙🏼

    Really awesome build!
    I didn't see a vapor barrier so be careful in humid conditions. Have seen all sorts of different kind of insulation creating mold. Especially during storing and also in cold conditions with snow.
    Anyways nice video 💪

    • @JakeandHeather
      @JakeandHeather  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you!!!! We used havelock who’ll, which claims to be all natural and resistant to mold. Time will tell, but I’ve read vapor barriers are pretty hard to do properly in a all metal van with all its nooks and crannies. We have good ventilation so hopefully don’t run into any issues 🤘🏼🤙🏼

      @@JakeandHeather Sounds awesome. I've seen others use the Airthings climate measurement units for indoor use. They notify your phone about current air quality and humidity and can be connected to most fans and such to automatically open and close. Only heard good things but haven't tried it.
