This was so much fun to watch. My then boyfriend, now husband, and I used to play this together a seriously long time ago. I did the exploring and tossed him the controller for the boss and obby scenes. We never made it past the duel tower and now I can see why. We watched this together and we finally got to see the end. Tysm!
@@ScrambledAndBenedictsame lol! Looking back at it, I’m like “I was scared of a bunch of distorted polygons?” That’s what gives it its charm! ❤ I was kind of disappointed when I played some other Castlevania games and they weren’t as scary. Now that I think of it, they all have their charm, but I kind of based other Castlevanias on my experiences with the n64 one.
From the page turning noises, music, esthetic, I was about 5-8 playing this and so much about it had that ambiance of fear nothing at that time could do to me
im only 15, but my dad used to have a nintendo 64 and i would get to play this on it. i remember all the sound effects and the way i played it all day. I miss being really small.
There's nothing wrong with the graphics imo , I love the "uncanny valley" early 3D era look from 5th and 6th gen more than any other period , upscaled texture / MODs out there make this syle look even better. There's a raw magic about the game design then because there was no formula , accepted rules , or successful blueprints to follow , It was a purely organic and experimental 3D golden age. The limitations only help give this game a completely different level of atmosphere.
And? Gameplay is trash, controls are awful, camera sucks, characters are forgettable and uninteresting, there's almost nothing redeemable about this game
I know I didn't defeat this game when I played it. I was shocked by how far I actually made it. The skeletons on motorbikes and magical nitro were buried deep, but still there. I think the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch would've been a more efficient method of destruction, but that's me. Kudos for the knee squats and spinning Belmonts sprinkled within your fantastic gameplay.
Seems you made it further than I ever did in my youth - commendable effort! Time to re-visit the game and show it what for? Thank you for the kind words! Unnecessary squats, rolls and jumps are important for any gameplay lol, glad you enjoyed the little things!
This game is not so hard to play it and finish it; if i did it i think you can do it too since i never have the experience to finish all Video Games levels and i already lost the count how many times i beat all CV64 bosses including Count Dracula(Malus).
I ended up getting the Legacy of Darkness version. For all of it's flaws, I still really enjoyed this game. Although having to figure out that you have to blow up the astronomy room's wall in the Castle Center with both nitro and mandragora before being able to blow up the big wall in the boss room was so cryptic is was nearly opaque.
@@shannonsteam8744 Ah yes, the one where you play as Chris Cornell who can turn into a werewolf but sacrifices the lycanthropy in the end to save his sister Ada; I loved the Art Tower music (The Sinking Old Sanctuary from Bloodlines)
I loved how spooky this castlevania was. I was a child and never finished it because I was scared every time I got into the maze. Those dogs...and the chainsaw sound lol. Good game.
I might as well just admit it: I never saw it coming when she poured blood instead of water on the "white roses." Even back then, Konami knew how to shock their gamers.
1:32:03 "Well, I carried it over this cracked wall, and guess what? I just realized I have no clue how to put this thing down. There's no drop, or throw away option, nothing. There's nothing I can do. The game's over. What a fatal flaw! It's not like I could just push the A button in front of the cracked wall, the way I've interacted with every single interactable object in the game up until this point, INCLUDING when I picked the item up! Why can't I use it from the item menu, in a game where I've never once used any key item from the item menu ever?! I don't know what I'm supposed to do!" - The Angry Video Game Nerd, on why he couldn't beat this game, roughly paraphrased, November 5 2009, colorized.
This game messed me up when i was young. I opened that first door and proceeded to rip the game cartridge from my Nintendo. Watching it now it makes me think of dark souls. Heres a boss immediatly.
okay can we all just admit that for being "a kidnapped child" Malus sure knows his way around the garden. Yes I realize he's Dracula, I just find it amusing that neither Reinhardt nor ever stop to question how he could easily get through the maze but yet was supposed to have been taken from a village elsewhere
Me and my brother use to play this game all the time!! We both would get scared every time we encountered the two cyborg dogs and chainsaw dude haha! Ahhh good times👍🏽❤️
My experience with this game was that when i first got it i never really played it as i did not have that much time but about 6 months later i started really getting in to it and about half way through the game it froze and the game never worked again so i had to buy a new one and got the Legacy of darkness one, it was the same game and ended up loving it, after a couple of years i got the original one again and loved it as well, maybe if you compare to symphony of the night yeah it falls short but what other Castlevania game doesn't? conclusion i really enjoyed it and still do.

That werewolf in the beginning was stronger, tougher, more agile and more dangerous than the lesser vampires! They should have given him a badass entrance instead of just letting him surprise you so casually. They should have made him a recurring enemy too! He was also rather small for a werewolf they should have made him a big bigger.
I played the LoD version. As far as I know the Reinhardt and Carrie scenarios are the same. I think I beat the game with Cornell and Carrie but never did with Reinhardt. Mostly due to that nitro carrying section. I made it past it and beat the bull but I was so mad at that point from blowing myself up that I didn't want to play anymore.
