Thank you Nick, again your input is appreciated so much. After watching this episode I know which micro Dji 03 I’m going to get for this winters aviation adventures. I said before don’t be so hard on yourself if you feel you have made a mistake or left something out. You do great work Nick and we appreciate you and your super videos. God Bless . Sincerely, Other Pops
That screech, tho'. Inherent to the design. If you're looking for stealth, whoops win all day long. Nice, smooth flyer. But, did I mention the screech?
Very interesting that they are going this route with these smaller cine-whoops using the O3 as a main camera unit and using the sort of swappable battery and closed-off design. Definitely a cool way to get some great-quality footage in such a small package! The little case for transporting the quad is nice. This little guy sure does scream! There is a slight waviness of the video feed in the sun, but ND filters might do the trick. This thing sure has some speed! Not as much stuff broke as I thought for that crazy flying! Great flying overall by the way, pretty fun to watch :D
I have it all patched up. I had planned to go fly it today over lunch, but it will have to wait...rained all day. Well until late in the day then I didn't have time
@@NickBurnsFPV yeah haha sometimes that happens, I’ve had my fair share of days too recently where I was ready to fly with all my gear and then it started raining 🌧️
The drone comes with instructions. Binding goggles 2 and DJI o3 is all the same from quad to quad. Both goggles and o3 have to be activated, press the grey button on the o3 and press the black button between the eyes of the goggles.
seems the entire defender series has the same weaknesses in the frame. I have a defender 25 and ordered the 16 and from what you're showing in the video they have the same weak spots in that part of the frame. Have you maybe tried changing out the props to see if that makes a difference when flying? I put different props on my defender 25 and no more issues with bent/broken props. I put the Nazgul Cine 2525 props on the defender 25 and havent had to change props yet and trust me I crash lol
I don't recall specifically. Unfortunately I don't see the cli dumps for the defender 16 listed on the iflight support site. This site indicates the defaults can be applied from within betaflight presets. Might be worth a look. iflight-rc.eu/blogs/news/updating-betaflight-firmware-on-iflight-bnfs
I went through the same process you have to download the Iflight preset in BF by following the tutorial (from the link in Nick’s message) and it includes the one for the defender 16. See the section « How to add the iFlight Factory Preset Library ». I had to reflash to BF4.4 and use the drone preset. Iflight told me that the DUMP of Defender 16 for BF4.5 will be available in two weeks on their website.
Hi ! Good review . Other reviewers had problems as well with props coming off. Is it a possibility that the the props broke due to a manufacturing defect than to flying it outside of it scope of design ?
Hi Nick, Great video and review of the Iflight Defender16.. Unfortunately I don't have much to say, I don't have DJI googles. I really don't like inverted motors and pusher props, everyone is loud. But I don't fly as apro camera guy, that's where this guy shines. I don't think that there's a camera system that comes close to the quality of the DJI video. Thanks again for the video and information about this quad
HBO's "House of the Dragon' was the biggest premier with almost 10 million viewers... which is the same number of views as your channel @nick burns .... smooth work!!
Awesome video. I always appreciate your opinions cause they help with making a decision to purchase or not. Only reason why I'd pass on this drone is that I don't own a HD goggle yet.
Thanks for teh video, the little guy looked like it wasn't having a good time trying to pull out of that first dive fir sure, nor the little one you tried at the chimny side either. Still, as a cinewhoop, if you wanted an Avata, but can't realy afford one and are okay without the GPS it's a great option. I'd say that was some decent bashing for something not made to rip it up. Cheers!
I don't think this is better than ANYTHING! Proprietary Batteries killed this for me. Plus, iFlight is a crap company to buy from. They will ignore you if you get a defect right out of the box. It's yours, fix it yourself, you're stuck with it! What? You didn't even get to fly it, tough luck sucker! You bought an iFlight, so you're the repairman... Whether you know how to repair drones or not. IFlight will not take it back. I don't buy from them.
iFlight did send it for review. No I don't send them back, unless special request. I had one quad in the last 7 years the manufacturer asked for it back. It was the foxwhoop 25, I ran that one into the chimney about 20 times and it still was flying. Foxeer wanted it back to investigate if anything was begining to break or otherwise.
Hi Nick, a really good video. I really love your reviews and i have a question: you mentioned the yello with rocksteady switched on. What happens if you switch rs off and stabilise the footage in gyroflow? I had a similar issue withe my pavo pico and i think the in camera stabilisation is the source for the yello. Maybe you can confirm this on the defender? I think this would be very helpful for other pilots, too. I tried to optimise the pavo pico, but with rs on the yello just changed and never went away. With rs off and gyroflow I don't see anything anymore.
Reasons I Regret Buying this Drone. 1. Batteries are not good compared to lipo. They discharge when not in use and become nonfunctional after a few months. I can not get my done to fly for more than 20 seconds with the stock batteries and I have 7 of them! 2. Getting an ELR receiver and controller instead of staying DJI all the way. This is not a long-range drone and I got a long-range setup. Batteries will never fly long-range. Staying full DJI would have simplified things. 3. NO GPS - Hard to recover if lost when you can't just do the geocache recovery option for a $1,000 drone. Should have just bought the Avata. 4. Buying 8 sets of extra props. Just have just tried to return the drone from the start. The prop design is poor. They are brittle and snap like toothpicks.
Proprietary Batteries - Not for me. Locks us into buying their batteries, which I have plenty of my own batteries, so that ends interest in this for me. Plus, I don't trust iFlight from their dealing with past releases and defectives. If you get a defect, right out of the box, YOU'RE STUCK WITH IT. NO REFUND NO EXCHANGES. YOU'RE THE REPAIR TECH. Sure, they'll send you parts, but you really want to be the repair man and be responsible for repairing it yourself even though it was defective instantly, right out of the box? Not Me! What if you don't have the skills to repair it yourself? Tough! It's yours. I'll buy from a reputable company, not iFlight. They're a rip off! Buyers Beware! 🥴😥
I've started developing an interest in FPV drones, and I find this video very informative. Thank you for sharing. I've liked and subscribed. 👍😊
This thing could be great for "one take" style indoor shoots, with flying through small gaps.

Other than normal operation flying yes! awesome. Good review sir

Great option for cinematic, clip on design is the best
Great review! Would be great If you can show us how you repaired this quad.

There is something weird about the framerate of the video from the quad. It seems to stutter and pause and speedup.
I thought that beep was my battery charger! Scared me half to death, rushed over and checked on my charging batts, haha
lol. didn't expect the little guy to have a full beeper. Pretty loud one at that.
Awesome content. Do you know what’s the factory rates on the defender 16? Trying to put mines back to factory

maybe, hard to say without buying additional props and testing.

Great review and content, what happened to your focus on your camera thou? Looks so blurry like 720p upscaled to 4K
Bought one what’s your expo set up?
I don't use expo. I use the same rates on all the quads I fly ua-cam.com/video/llpHcWQx8q8/v-deo.html

Fantastic flying and review, Nick!!! 😃
Pretty nice little quad! And it's more durable than I expected!
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
No news about Diatone after the pandemic
Is this better than pavo pico ? What about flywoo flylens ?

So, is really not designed around that, but IL question will always be: will it freestyle?
NO. But I tried
The first was like a real estate tour
Nick you get this drone from iflight?after you test them are you give it back to the iflight?

Great flight review. Flies better than I expected, has reasonable durability if you fly as it was designed for. 👍🤓

Other than proprietary batteries I like these
That's bad enough for me to not buy it! Don't want to get locked into buying expensive proprietary Batteries! No way.
you need a huge privacy fence
Wow that's loud. x_x
crash it! crash it! crash it!

Don't eat frogs
No, only the legs
