    Today I’m sharing some recent projects that have been keeping my heart and hands busy this first month of the year: knitting natural socks and spinning sock yarn, both with breed specific wools.

      Thank you Danielle! Oh yes, knitting outside is probably my favourite place to be! And that location is especially special to us - we took a weekend trip to the nearby valley where we first met and visited some old favourite haunts! 🤍

      Oooh wonderful! Will it be your first time sock knitting? If so, I can really recommend knitting a DK à weight pair for your first go, and the pattern I talked about is SO easy to follow for a beginner sock!

    What a really lovely cheerful podcast....your love for woollen crafts just shines. I am looking at my spinning wheel...unused for about six or seven years. My late brother was a fantastic spinner and I also have his two wheels and all his spindles....a collection. Quite made a lovely morning over here in Western Australia.....thank you Fran.

      @woollenhearted  2 роки тому

      Thank you so much for coming to join me Lydia, all the way from Australia too! That feels extra special! Well if you need any help getting back to your wheel, let me know! I’m considering running an informal and pressure free spin along (again!) starting in March, let me know if that’s something that would interest you. And how interesting to hear about your late brother - so far, the most accomplished spinner I’ve ever met is a man, he taught me so much the couple of hours I was able to sit and spin with him early on in my spinning journey 🤍

    Lovely to catch up with all your woolly projects. The socks look so cosy. I have been spinning since 2007, but only with spindles. I enjoy exploring different breeds and textures, the possibilities are endless. I look forward to seeing you again when you have time to share and hope your family stay well.

    Your episode was wonderful. I really enjoyed the spinning chat. I found it interesting that you learned to do wooden spun first. It is a skill that I am still trying to master. I learned worsted first. Thank you for sharing your time and projects with us. I look forward to your next visit. 😊

      As I think I might have said, I seem to have done everything the “wrong” way around when it came to learning to spin 😂 There were very few ressources online when I began, so I learn through a combination of reading spinning books and also a little bit of input from a couple of spinners I met along the way who showed me the ropes. If you’d be interested, I’m intending to film a couple of “how I spin” videos in the future (once the days are a bit longer and I have a bit more time to film in the evenings when the children are asleep). Long draw really is my favourite way to spin!

    I admire your decision to turn away from your bear making for the time being, listening to yourself and understanding this is the right choice for now. Your breed-specific spinning has got me looking through my fiber samples, ready to get back to my own spinning. Nicely done, all around:)

    • @woollenhearted
      @woollenhearted  2 роки тому

      Thanks so much Colleen! It was quite a tough decision to make - when I first stopped in 2019 it almost broke my heart and I just couldn’t quite let go at the time, I felt a need to keep the door open and kept on pushing myself to make, when I just wasn’t really up to it. Revisiting that decision from a place of improved health this autumn (and with some trusted support around me) has helped me come to a place of greater peace now and it feels really right for me now. So to read your words really helped me - thank you! And I’m excited to learn I’ve perhaps inspired you to start a spinning project too! Let me know what fibre you settle on! Thank you again x

    Hi Fran, I just found your podcast and I love it, I bought an Ashford traditional wheel a few years ago, but after some time trying to get the( perfect) spin I got so disappointed with it, then I saw a podcast that said what I was doing was okay, and to keep trying, but like you so much has happened these last two years, but I have decided to get it out this year and keep going until I get it right, 👍thank you for your podcast,looking forward to your next podcast, sending blessings from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

      Hi Margaret, so lovely to hear from you! And hello from a fellow Ashford Traditonal lover! (It was my second wheel!). Oh yes, please don’t give up with your spinning! I promise, you will eventually be able to make the yarn you’re seeking, it just takes practice! I can’t remember if I’ve talked about my first yarns in an earlier episode, but I’m definitely intending to share an episode in March (my spinning birthday!) sharing how I got into spinning and also how I got on in those early years! I will be forever proud of my first lumpy bumpy yarns, because I made them myself from start to finish! And they also really taught me so much about letting go as an important part of spinning. Sorry to hear you’ve had a tough time the last couple of years, I truly hope 2022 will be kinder to you….and so happy to have connected with you here! Do you have Instagram? If so, come and find me there as @woollenhearted so we can also connect there and I can follow your progress! Best wishes, Fran 🤍

    What a delightful YT video. I’ve already gone over to Churchmouse Knits and have downloaded one free pattern for a tea cosy and bought the sock pattern you suggested! Thank you so much. A thought re DARNING holes. I don’t do that any more. I make holes in my socks in the heel cup (bottom of foot) and I’ve taken to crocheting up 2 rectangles in yarn matching the sock yarn and I’ve just sewn these onto the socks. I make the rectangles long enough that each one wraps from under the heel cup and up the heel flap. Easy, easy, easy :-). Yours in Gratitude for sharing

      Oh I’m so excited I’ve inspired you! Spinning is such a wonderful, meditative activity to do! Wheel spinning is so much fun, but I can also highly recommend the spindle.
