I am working on the same project. Wool from a Colombian fleece from a friend mixed with alpaca from our farm. The goal hand spun hand knit socks🥰. I need to practise my long draw. You make it look so easy. Practise makes progress. Thank you for you vlogs

And luckily I found some 'woolpreppers' in The Netherlands where i can buy carded wool from different local sheep. Everybody happy! I am really interested in the solidarity project(?) you are talking about, the 500km Pyrenees society? Love to hear/read more about that. About your marled sockyarn: its marvelous. Love your swatch! You are telling about not plying the single with its self. Why is that? I do it very often! And don't you love that feeling when a skein is ready. yes! And also it means we can try all different breeds too! If I was more confident with colour, I’d also love to try hand dyed braids of fibre but I’m never sure which colours to pick 😂 I’ve not heard of that project, but I’ll look it up! No, I was talking about Atelier Laines d’Europe which I used to be a member of and am planning on joining again. A really fantastic wool network Europe wide actually although based in France. As for the plying - I used to do it all the time, especially with handspun. But I’ve heard a few spinners say you shouldn’t do it because it messes up the twist! I’ll research again the theory behind it…I mentioned it so I don’t get in trouble with the spinning police 😂
Lovely story, love how your yarn, looks like mine, im a first timer, so it cant be that far from perfektion,, allreaddy knitted a pair of baby socks and a pair for My self,, year sheep world is a little fairytail it self, , and it sure takes forever, i know, both washing combing, spinning, ect, dont think it could be bought in shops under 100.pounds,per sock.. My son says😅🥳bless him.. Do you live in the pyreneers...? 😳❤️

Ooh sounds wonderful! I’ve not yet spun with mohair on its own (although did encounter some in a batt with wool a friend gave me). Let me know how you get on!

The wool festival in Brittany (the pictures you see here)? Or the one I went to recently? The only producers of yarn present were Boucleaine (who I mentioned earlier) and Les Toisons Bretonnes (who I talk about in a previous video). Both are present on IG, although the second is not so active anymore (but you can still find their wool). Otherwise it was mainly individual craftspeople using wool, mainly felt or making mattresses. Oh, I forgot, there was Atelier aux Pies (also on IG) she dyes yarn and fibre, and makes beautiful Turkish spindles that she carves herself!
@@teresacabellospanades9605 directly from the wool carder I mentioned and showed photos of, Nicolas Poupinel. But although he has a site, you can’t buy from him online, he only sells the batts when he’s at a festival (as far as I know). If you’d like to try spinning from Breton wool you can buy really lovely batts from Les Toisons Bretonnes, via the site Laine et Tricot. It’s not the same sheep breed, but it’s still Breton wool, from the other two breeds Landes de Bretagne and Belle Île. It’s difficult to buy Ouessant fleece as no one raises them commercially (as far as I know) in France, you have to get it directly from folks who keep a couple of sheep in their gardens. (That’s what I’ve done so far)
Very smooth spinning Fran. I wish I could get mine as consistent with long draw. My cormo currently carded with a drum carder can't seem to get consistent enough in the rolag to prevent some nep formation. I will try other fleeces. Sending good wishes to you and yours.
@@woollenhearted Hi Fran, I bought 1/2 of a fleece and it turned out that my half was full of short cuts and had very sticky lanolin that was hard to wash out. Several washes did not remove it. It was a shame so I am trying to salvage some but have given some to friend who does felting.
I really appreciate all your careful thoughts about how your love of spinning can be transformed into a business venture that honours all your needs. I’ve just bought a Lendrum double treadle spinning wheel and I’m thrilled with it. I have an old Ashford saxony style with a single treadle and double drive. So perhaps I’ll ply on that wheel. My first project will be to spin the yarn I’ll need to weave a special scarf for the 60th birthday of a dear friend of ours. It’s to have a music theme: the scarf will have colours assigned to letters of the alphabet. Then, the warp will repeat RSTRAUSS (for Richard Strauss), with a neutral yarn to separate the repeats. The weft is likely going to be repeats of 4LASTSONGS, maybe with the addition of AUTUMN. A question for you…would you spin the warp threads using a worsted style of spinning? And then spin the weft threads with a long draw? I bought Roland and top in the colours our friend has requested. Some of the fibre is merino, some alpaca, some lama and some silk. Any thoughts on which would be best for the warp? Many thanks for your thoughts. I love watching you spin, as well as learning about all these European sheep breeds. I think I’m in love with the Sicilian sheep ;-}}. Yours in Gratitude

It’s taken a LOT of practice and I feel there is always room for improvement! Shame about your Cormo, do you have a lot of it?
