I would caution people with 3V F-150/expeditions. If the previous owner didn't change the oil routinely ( which most people dont) the engine won't last. I've known a bunch of 3V owners and a bunch of blown engines. Mine runs well but always maintained. You can hear the ones while running that were not maintained. 7k to replace a 3V.

Mine owned since 20k miles and oil changes with synthetic routinely is quiet while compared to one not maintained. I've known many people with 3V and while running next to mine and I can hear them clicking. All have blown.

A good friend of mine had bought a used 180k mile king ranch 4x4 f150. It was older than the 05 body style so 97 to 04 ish. He beat the dealership down to 12k. Had it two weeks , clipped a pole witch damage from the middle of drivers side back door all the way to the wheel. Insurance gave him a check for 5k or 6k. He bought a door shell off of craidslist for $100. He traded it in on 2011 f150 coyote 4x4 and they gave him 12k for trade with 212k miles.
The only bad was after my moms got totalled my brother in law bought a 05 or up not sure exactly what year. Anyway evidently the oil pump quit. He never knew the difference between oil pressure or low oil. I know i had more than 100k miles on it when he bought it for a work truck. So it locked up the engine.

My 1994 Chevy K1500 5.7 extended cab 4x4 has 300,000 miles and still running strong. Doesn't burn a drop of oil and is even still on the original ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, CV joints, u joints, etc. And it's even lifted with larger tires! The only major repair I've done was a tranny rebuild at 250,000. And mine is also the heavy half with the semi-floating (3/4-ton) 6-lug 14-Bolt rear axle.

The new trucks are to sell to fleets and suckers. Plus, they are so unnecessarily tall to appeal to the "rugged" market, especially the new frontier. Went from a commercial truck to an outdoorsman's accessory.
The run of the OBS Chevy '87 to '02 was peak alongside Ford's attempts to overtake it, though I wouldn't be caught dead driving a Ford unless it was a gift, can't complain about free. Nissan, Toyota were making some pretty bulletproof trucks also but hadn't quite figured out the American truck buyer yet.

Chevrolet trucks are hands down the most reliable pickups. The older 350 and 305s were perfect especially when they came out with the 5.7 vortec. The newer LS based 4.8 5.3 and 6.0 are the best engines ever out in a truck.
I’ve seen 4.8s and 6.0s with over 650000kms that still run like new.
My last truck was a 2000 Silverado with a built 5.3 and it had 590000kms before it I swamped it mudding and it threw a rod. (Hydro locked)

Had a customer with a blue 2wd 99 Sierra with a 5.3 that had 1,106,000 miles and it was still going, ran fine, everything worked fine. Last time I seen him I replaced the brake lines and the ABS pump assembly... and yes hes fine, ive seen him driving around, just hasn't had any problems.... he rarely changes his oil too which is very suprising

I just inherited my dad’s ‘06 F150 Triton XLT with 280,000 miles on it. We drove it from TX to CA with no issues. It can use a few fixes, but nothing major. I hope to keep it long enough for my son to drive his Paw Paw’s truck!
