Dear viewers, some of you have said that you really like my content and that I should have way more viewership and subscribers than I do, and I’m very proud to hear that. So I’m asking you to please help me out by liking my UA-cam channel page on FaceBook (just search for “Melvin Wei”) and by directly sharing some choice episode 1s of plant growing series on my channel that you like. I resurrected the FB fan page after a few years of inactivity thinking it might be worth a try to help get the good word out on my UA-cam channel and bring a lot of new viewers. I will also post a lot of interesting nature content from other FB pages and some of the pictures from my hikes there, so it won’t be redundant to my UA-cam channel. Thank you!
Cant wait to grow mine after watching this video! Here in Greece, its a very common tree that you can find in areas by the sea. I love this fruit, so delicious! Its awesome how you can get so many seeds just from one piece. Also the tree itself is quite beautiful.
I was walking by the beach and grabbed a few loquats off a tree. I had recognized the fruit before I ate it and I kept the seeds. A month later, I now have a little loquat tree:D I hope it lives...
Luke27* did u do what this guys did because i hav some lowuat seeds we want to make a tree but dont know how also u said this along time ago so i hope u answer 🤞
Nice video I always use boiled water with honey and cinnamon to sterilize my soil also controls fungus mold and other pesky knats thanks for sharing ~planting alabama~
Thx for your video! The Loquat is actually a shrub by nature but usually gets up to 7-15 feet if left to its own devices.Best to keep them stomach or hip high for comfortable maintenance purposes.
There is a Loquat tree here in Central Florida that is 25-30 feet tall and has a trunk around 12-14 inches in diameter. Amazing they can grow that big. One of my favorite trees. We planted one in our yard last year.
First time i ever see someone cooking soil before seeding. I grow a lot of thing loquat as well...never ever used cooked soil. First time i see something like that.
So what did you replant the loquat tree in after you pulled them out of your starter pot? I have a loquat tree I harvest for multiple purposes... mainly for atopical exzema medicinal properties. I want to put one so I have a tree to take with me next time I move.
Mighty interesting upload ya share with us Melvin! And what a list of names, seems like many countries have this beautiful, hardy tree growing for them,....ya might add 'Nispero', the way mexicans here refer to the yummy fruit. Uprated.
I just discovered two of these trees in my garden in SW France. In the 9 years that I've had the house I've never seen them bear fruit but they have this year! I didn't even know what they were and never heard of Loquats before! I want to try to do what you did and grow more from the seeds. Can I plant fresh seeds? Also, did you do any further watering in that 0-43 day period? And finally, under what conditions did you place the pot after initial planting? Thanks.
You can use any kind of dirt as long as you mix it with compost and/or other nutrients.. i suggest making your own dirt, cuz if shit hits the fan, you don’t wanna be reliant on Home Depot to fertilize your yard.. which is the whole point of this lesson from covid, right?
Generally always plant the seeds fresh ASAP. The baking of the potting mix was to kill all the bugs and parasites that come with store-bought potting mix.
It's a dice roll. Loquats like many fruit trees have been cultivated and selected for thousands of years into specific cultivars. Even if there aren't wild or different cultivars nearby to cross pollinate with, based on what I've read the fruit quality will oftentimes be different; it could be better or worse. Growing from cuttings and in the same soil/conditions as the parent tree is the only way to get identical fruit taste.
do the seeds have to be dried before you begin planting them? i have some fresh ones and would like to start a few more trees from the seeds i saved... thanks in advance.
No, typically keeping seeding damp is the best bet. My friend scrubbed the mold off them with a soap sponge and kept them dry in a Ziploc bag for a week before giving them to me and they still germinated!
Not really, i grow them without any. I think he wants to be over sure of getting rid of insects.... sterilize the soil from, i dont know .....spiders or such. But from my experience....no need for that.
They sell them in most big box stores like Target but Walmart has a better selection/cheaper prices. Lowe's and Home Depot for sure have the biggest selections. These are expensive on Amazon.

@Malachi Azariah definitely, I've been using flixzone for since november myself :D

Did you say you bake the soil for an hour at 350 degrees? Then take an hour to cool off?

einnnor same here. Never heard of it.

I updated the description! There are so many terms for this fruit in the world.
Did your seed grown loquat ever fruit or flowered i am curious ?
nice video! They grow quite good here in Germany :)

Fresh seeds are the best to use, just make sure you peel the brown wrap of them before putting them in the soil.
So right after I eat the fruit do I just mix the seed in with water n peroxide then plant?
trying to make a tree during covid 19 do i need special soil or does dirt from my backyard work?
Describe your soil from the backyard. Is it sandy, clumpy like clay, drain pretty quick if you add water to it?
You can use any kind of dirt as long as you mix it with compost and/or other nutrients..
i suggest making your own dirt, cuz if shit hits the fan, you don’t wanna be reliant on Home Depot to fertilize your yard.. which is the whole point of this lesson from covid, right?
Melvin have you ever heard of or used EM-1?
I just received some loquat seeds from a seedswap. Thanks for sharing this information.
I read online that you should plant the seed after eating them, is that not true?. Also, whats the purpose of putting the soil in the oven?
Generally always plant the seeds fresh ASAP. The baking of the potting mix was to kill all the bugs and parasites that come with store-bought potting mix.
If you grow a loquat tree from seed, will the fruit it produces have same characteristics as the fruit the seed was taken from?
It's a dice roll. Loquats like many fruit trees have been cultivated and selected for thousands of years into specific cultivars. Even if there aren't wild or different cultivars nearby to cross pollinate with, based on what I've read the fruit quality will oftentimes be different; it could be better or worse. Yes the mother is true to her seed. In other words you will receive the same yummy sweetness as moms'.
Terra Knohs no, they aren't true to type. Fortunately you can graft them easily. Probably the easiest fruit to graft
琵琶嗎? Thanks for sharing. Trying this at home but I didn't sterilize the soil. Does baking the soil smell up the house?
It does, but the smell dissipates soon enough. Nowadays I use mostly sand with some clay soil mixed in.

I always giggle when people go full mad scientist just to grow some seeds
John Pots 🤣
Where did you get those pots with the side opening?
They sell them in most big box stores like Target but Walmart has a better selection/cheaper prices. Lowe's and Home Depot for sure have the biggest selections. These are expensive on Amazon.
Why did you bake the soil?
To kill any parasites such as spider mites and fungus gnats, or their eggs. Those come in store bought potting mixes.
Oh, brilliant. Thanks for the tip!
@@TheMelvinWei Do u do this baking method for any planting at all?? And how long does it bake for?
@@GeoffreyHale it is called solarization if you do it out in thebopen by exposing the soil to direct sunlight, just an FYI though.
thanks stephen for sending me to see this
Why do you bake your soil? Doesn't that kill all the nutrients?... you can use neem oil and still keep your nutrients🤗
