@@theaddictofgaming9174 Young-Earth Creationist, evangelical christian. That set of labels, and the beliefs they imply, count as "core" beliefs. I went from that to...not that.
@@theaddictofgaming9174 Just about every belief that one has stems from a series of axioms, beliefs that all others beliefs are based on. For example, the Christian believes that the Bible is the ultimate authority of what is true and false, moral and immoral. The rationalist-materialist believes that reality is absolute and that it exists outside of human observation. It is the belief of the hedonist that pleasure is the ultimate good in life. The reason that the conservative and the progressive are often bad at changing each others mind is that they view the world in fundamentally different ways. The best way to change someone's mind if that person has different axioms in to find a way to contrive your position from the other's axioms. Ian dislikes this, but I disagree. Regardless of politics, I feel he’s a really good orator and has a great understanding of rhetoric. As an avid debater, I very much respect this aspect of his essays.
@Mark Donald All texts are rhetorical (including this very comment). It's your responsibility to make sense of the rhetoric you are subject to and to decide whether to reject or accept it.
Witness in the comments as several ppl fundamentally demonstrate how pointless it is to "debate" the right in public. Call their bluff and move on. I've never encountered a rightist that didn't completely lose their train of thought when I said "I don't believe you and you're not entitled to my trust."

@Ivan Jocic Intersex conditions are usually a little less clear cut than "a dick and a vagina" and also gender has nothing to do with genitals and there are way more than two. Correlation does not equal causation. "Black people can't be racist" is dumb in a colloquial sense, but what people who say that don't mean the colloquial sense, they mean the scientific sense. It's easy to colloqialize by just saying "Black people can't be racist in a meaningful, harmful way". "all white people are racist, all cisgender people are transphobic" is just a fact. We all grow up in a society drenched in racism, transphobia and all other kinds of bigotry. It permeates culture and language and though we can and should work very hard to eliminate these biases we may always hold at least some of them a little bit subconsciously. Growing up in a bigoted culture doesn't make you a bad person and no-one will judge you for it. What matters is what you do about it. For that last one... Well I'm not going to feel sorry that some asshole who voted to fuck over millions and put nuclear weapons in the hands of an emotionally uninhibited toddler got to eat some of his own medicine. Fuck him.
it's more of an overgeneralization, and I think that big companies wanted to divide our middle class workers to two sides so that we cannot team up and help each other properly if we don't agree to act accordingly. They are replacing us workers with robots so that we wouldn't be able to protest since the CEO wouldnt rely on us workers to do the work for them. This is what they've wanted so that we wouldn't be able to stop them from gaining political influence. We need to set our differences aside, and focus on the real problem instead of the symptoms of the problem, such as the tech companies who made and control social media that we use everyday.
There are more than two genders, because gender is not wholly dependent on biology. Black people cannot be racist, because we did not enslave white people. The last two were just lies. @God Fire Inferno So how bout stop being trash and blaming others for your emotional instability?
@@Clobek value judgements and unfounded assertions are not facts. Maybe you should look beyond your feelings on the subject and actually educate yourself.
@@Clobek I'm not sad about a trump supporter getting shit, because it's a simple fact that his opinion and resulting actions result in worse outcomes for people like me. Worse outcomes with a body count. It's funny that you think "A man can be a woman" is self evidently nonsense, when it just very clearly isn't. Not referring to average trans people here just to be clear, but being bigender is a thing, I hear. A trans woman, which is probably what you were talking about is not a man of course, but a woman who was, or still is gendered incorrectly by others, especially a doctor shortly after birth. Intersex people are much less uncommon than ignoramuses like you like to pretend, but regardless, even if there was just a single person in the world who breaks your supposedly immutable, "factual" model of sex, it would still be broken, so how about you shove your gender entitlement up your ass? Btw, science doesn't work by what you "would say", but by what can be reliably established and chromosomes are a measure of chromosomes alone and not of some transcendental quality of "maleness" or "femaleness" that doesn't exist. In the unlikely event that you actually want to think critically about sex and gender here is a good article to kick-start some thought processes. tal9000.wordpress.com/2011/02/12/sex-is-a-social-construct/ Finally, black people in america and "the west" in general can indeed not be racist in a meaningful way. Granted, a handful could loose their shit and start killing white people or something and that would without a doubt be bad for the couple of white people they hypothetically killed. What black people can't do is structurally oppress white people by keeping them out of good schools and good jobs and positions of power due to their control of almost all positions of economic and political power, thus creating an underclass based on skin color that affects all white people negatively, which would be racism in the sociological sense.
The left tried this "don't debate them" tactic here in sweden and the most rightwing party in decades is now one of the biggest parties, also being one of the youngest parties. So good luck with that.
Brady Fries conservatism is basically about keeping the status quo through reactionary means any change to give marginalized groups equal rights is always opposed by conservatives. individual liberty is not a right or left wing ideology and capitalism is an economic ideology like socialism/communism

Brilliant and insightful analysis. Danskin follows in a lineage of public intellectuals like Noam Chomsky, Cornel West, and bell Hooks. Few others bring such clarity to the bewildering experiences and often ugly exchanges that so many people habitually engage in, within modernity's arena: i.e. online. Videos like these exemplify good critical thinking practices, and keep me asking questions long after the videos end. Thank you for your vital work!
Please don’t hate me. I’m a white conservative. But I am also a dv survivor, which has led me into a whole world of controversy I never could have imagined. What I have learned is that things are so very often NOT how we perceive. That I really don’t know diddly until I step into and walk around in another’s shoes. I absolutely loved what you articulated along the lines of ‘hating another’s ideals, vs hating the person themself.’ I have perceived many on the left to be hateful & angry, and I was wrong; thank you for showing me different. And thank you for showing me how the right (or alt right?) is perceived (I wanted to know, which is why I am here.). AND thank u for encouraging those with similar ideals as yourself to hold space for empathy/trust. I will continue to do the same with those having similar ideals as my own. We are all integral pieces to the same puzzle; not one more important nor valuable than another. As far as racism, etc., for now I perceive these as I do my own & other victims/survivors’ experiences: no one is TRULY going to understand until or unless they have also. If only those NOT traumatized would have reached out, perhaps my babes would not still be being used to continue hurting me/being kept from me, their mama. It is apparent no one but other protective mamas (or dads) understand my desperation AND inability to fix this. But bc they are in the same/similar position, they cannot help or lift me/my babes up, either. Likewise, I do not know what it is like to be a black woman. But I hold space and love for her, and I can arouse the empathy that is related to other pain & oppression. I can zip it but keep my ears open, and always my mind. And I am willing to have ANY privileges I have received pointed out so that I might share them with her. And apologize for not having the same experience to know what they are; and especially that all has NOT been fair. I AM sorry for that. I desire to be part of the change; in a LARGER way than I was of the silence. I will reach my hand out to her, lifting her to those privileges and above; that through her adversity she might press on further than I. We have to put in the work to not be divided. Thank you for doing that, it encourages me to do so, also. And on the days we cannot, we can allow others to; in whatever their work and experience’s voice sounds like. 🤗💜
No sane human will hate you for being a white conservative. I say that as pinko scum, so, don't worry about it, eh? Thank you for taking the time and researching this stuff on your own! the world needs more open-minded people like you.
Ian Danskin, thank you for noting your flaws. I have seen this for some time, but I still like your videos because they compartmentalize my thoughts/observations well, and it helps to know I see the same things. As to approaching the Alt-Right?... Well, do it the same way everyone else in Right media does; don't address directly as politics, address them as a human. Be relational. People are often offended by directness, not indirectness. Talk about problems with humanity, question any rhetoric they spout that sounds political, but listen. Only keep referring to humanity in general. There's no division or "us vs. them" if you don't acknowledge it and keep trying to relate with someone (which involves asking a lot of questions and listening; not pointing out facts unless it is absolutely necessary and knowing exactly when, where and how to do it). Don't address the politics; do address complexity of humanity and validity of all humans' feelings. If they're still spouting racists, sexist stuff, ask what they would do if they were that person and had all the exact same things happen to them on a regular basis. It might not do much at first, but if you keep getting them to think about it to the point where they're askingthemselves, they might try to relate with others more. Give them the option to listen to the left, don't tell them they're stupid for not. Say, "Some of us lefts are here to listen and still see you as human." State facts, but give them the option what to believe (this is how they change anti-vaxxers' minds).

26:43 "Everyone on some level feels this pressure to be normal, to be acceptable; in fact the Right feels this even more strongly than the Left." Holy shit. This has just been proven extremely correct. As I'm writing this, we are about to have the 2024 Harris/Trump election and it has incidentally also just been discovered how much conservatives hate being called "weird". On some level, it's an amazing discovery. I've been "weird" in some way or another for most of my life and eventually came to be a thing that I embraced. And over the past decade we've seen that when you call the Right "deplorable" they wear it like a badge of honor. When you point out that their policies are cruel, they just smirk. When you tell them that aren't showing any empathy for their fellow man they just call you a snowflake. When you say that the effect of their abortion policies essentially treat women like birthing-pods instead of people, they just shrug. ... But you call them "weird", and for some reason *that* gets under their skin.
Its tied to the rhetoric of "degeneracy" the christian right uses against progressives and anything to do with trans and gay people. Homophobes hate being portrayed as having "gay traits", transphobes hate being accused of being trans as well.

@@DarkPrject I see, but then Stalin and Mao were demagogues too and they definitely weren't fascists... Out of curiosity, do you consider neo literalist and capitalist ideas to be fascistic, independent of any demagoguery?
@@rohanjarande Mao and Stalin are the no longer living proof that all the talk about capitalism being the sole basis for bigotry is a load of horseshit, though it is undeniable that it makes these things worse and incentivzeses the creation of further marginalization beyond that of mere class, which is why I think that capitalism is inherently fascistic. While individual capitalists may not agree with any particular form of bigotry, classism is directly inherent in the system and the splitting up of the working class into smaller and smaller groups is beneficial to capitalists for purposes of marketing as well as obstruction of class awareness and for the justification of hyper-exploitation.
@@DarkPrject well, we have a mixed economy anyways, I agree it's not like capitalism invented inequality despite its failings, but it's also not like Communism or 'complete socialism' is devoid of inequality either, In fact, when implemented, we instantly create a ruling class of trillionaires (with their own biases mind you)... That level of concentrated power with the propensity of systems and hierarchies to tilt towards corruption is always a disaster waiting to happen, Course correction becomes just wayyy too difficult. I think our current mixed economy that tilts towards the free market is the best system we have managed to implement if our goal was to address inequality, compared to all the other options we have tried. (Since 2002 to 2012, abject poverty decreased by 50% throughout the world) Today, despite the inequality, we are finally generating wealth as well, and the leading causes of hunger in the world by a VAST margin, are Corruption and systems wide infrastructure failures! Not even wars come close! I think Improving what we have and helping the underprivileged is the best thing we can do today. Therefore I personally wouldn't advocate for a system overhaul.

Now to tangent, I think what Ian does well, is highlight what the actual root of both any discussion and any problem actually is. Now his views maybe right or wrong to you, but I feel that the actual problem never gets adressed by mass media, especially in politics. For example, the problem is not global climate change and natural preservation happening. The problem is "Lets asume that if the earth could one day run out of resources, and we had both the ability to prevent it and make an emergency plan, what could we do?" And then asking "is it worth it?". But I know, someone somewhere could stil derail the debatr about it.
Insightful series, Mr. Danskin. Authority is the only language authoritarians understand. In my experience, right wing authoritarians (Altemeyer's "RWAs") respond positively only to authority. Engage only if you have or can wield authority you have earned. (Don't engage the keyboard jockies unless you know their name and address.) When you have real power and confidence, they back down. Here's a conversation I had. RWA (smug): Y'know, Hitler wasn't really as anti-Semitic as the history books say. Me (cold): While I was an Army PSYOP officer, I studied Göebbels' personal diaries. Rest assured, Nazi antisemitism was heartfelt. RWA: Well, the historians have exagger-- Me (interrupting, standing at parade rest, towering over him, deep voice): I'm sorry, but the primary sources do not support your hypothesis. The RWA disengaged. I didn't convince that RWA of diddly-squat. But I did communicate to all present that I held authority. By interrupting him, looming over him, and speaking in a military command voice, I asserted my dominance. I also had clear physical advantages over the RWA. In sum, I bullied him, and I was not bluffing. (The RWA proceeded to bad-mouth me behind my back, as is simply his nature. I have a good character and reputation, so he did less damage to me than himself.) I know this sounds like so much macho posturing, because it is! As a moderate, I must challenge the Left. The Right is ready, even eager, to throw down for what they believe. If you aren't better prepared to fight for what you believe, by their lights you don't deserve to be heard. ...And they have a point. If Altemeyer is correct, RWAs are ultimately motivated by fear. In the absence of reassuring strength, they will lionize monsters (Altemeyer's "double-highs") because they (incorrectly) perceive them as strong. In my opinion, you've got to step up. Be confident, be overpowering, be domineering without actually abusing them. They want you to help them feel safe. The last vets you nominated were Kennedy and Johnson. You ran a farmer, a 'Nam protestor, a lawyer, the latest was a woman who couldn't defend herself when Jody Bonespurs bullied her. Do you get it yet?
The lack of self awareness is incredible. The left has always enforced conformity through threats. This is why O'sullivan's law exists, group think and conformity is enforced through institutional authority, dissent is crushed. No submission = no job, no life. The left are pure authoritarians by nature. Simply look at how certain inconvenient scientists are driven from the profession for wrong think, never mind James Damore or Germaine Greer. The left is based on fear, the fear others might do back to them what they intend to do themselves. "don't engage unless you can interfere with someone in real life", the projection of evil is clear to see. The smug nature of your post is incredible to see, but it's the perfect example of type.
Commando Solo, you have a few points, though I will disagree that we must capitulate to the RWAs. Yes, you must project strength. However, you do not need to project strength by using the same false tactics the right does - that is to say, the left must project strength in their positions rather than tepid platitudes, but they do not need to try to project strength by partly agreeing with the premises of the right. If we capitulate and only run the kind of politicians that the right wing are comfortable with (white and male), it limits the pool of powerful leaders that we could be pulling from. No Ilhan Omars, no Alexandria Ocasio Cortezs, and no Rho Khanas - we lose when we capitulate to the prejudices of the right wing. You must absolutely be a powerful voice who knows your stuff and doesn't back down. Your convo with the RWA guy sounds like good praxis, so keep it up. Otherwise, people like francis chow get to spew flat lies like he just did without any push back. He will continue to think that the political violence committed against the left wing via electoral cheating, suppression, dehumanization (and removal of personhood), etc. is not at all outweighed by the few times small groups deplatform a right winger at Berkeley. They will continue to believe the 3% of left wing terrorist actions is somehow more important than the ~70% of right wing terrorist actions that happened in the USA in 2018. People like him will continue to shit the bed, so we need to always strike back in an open forum like this. Stay strong, y'all.
Any resources with more about the studies casting doubt on The Backfire Effect? I've always had some suspicions. (Not to commit confirmation bias here, but I have only heard in the detail the studies supporting it.)
6:00 also with public debate there is usually the bias that the two sides are mutually exclusive, or irreconcilable. The example you gave was Bill Nye (who I read as representative of Science or The Scientific Consensus) vs. a creationist. And in some ways, I don't think we can say with our current knowledge that those two sides *are* mutually exclusive.
Its a funny example because the left are implicit creationists now, their ideology of "equality" is incompatible with a world created by evolution. Its just one of many examples of the lefts total lack of self awareness.
@@omgwtfbbqstfu evolution and equality are not dissonant concepts. It's very common for people to have an incomplete understanding of evolution in the biological sense. Evolution is not value laden or purpose driven. One species is not more evolved than another species, they only came to different evolutionary solutions to problems in their environment. A cat, a slug, and a human are equally evolved.
In that case, they are. A literalist interpretation of the Bible is incompatible with the reality. The narrative of Genesis is contradicted by evidence astronomical, geological, biological, anthropological, and historical. It is simply, fundamentally false.

Just for reference, there is at least one complete discipline of changing individual minds, the "elephant and rider" model (see The Happiness Hypothesis, and Switch: How to Change When Change Is Hard) and of course there is a complete discipline of changing minds en mass, see "propaganda" which you get at with the "everyone wants to be normal" thing. An essential element of "debunking" as you frame it is to simply assert baldly "that ain't normal. this is normal, that's not." The left spends way too much goddamned time trying to frame things as if this was a debate club. too damn much logic, too damn much cute metaphor, etc. The "elephant and rider" books are based on some pretty decent research, and they show a path toward changing minds and behaviors which actually works. At least to a degree. I view the "100 contacts" model not as a "this is how you make a racist into a social justice warrior" I view it as 100 incremental steps. I'm not trying to get my racist uncle to give to the NAACP, I just him to think maybe slavery isn't ALL wine and roses. Today. TOmorrow, maybe we'll work on "ok it was kind of actually crummy sometimes" and the day after that, well, we'll see. Random notes: Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean that they lack information or are stupid. A significant factor in the recent presidential race is simply that the coastal people think everyone along the mississippi is some kind of flint-knapping cannibal, and we see this *everywhere*. In my particular zone of interest, we see Fine Art Photobook being lauded by the Art World Elite, which books paint flyover country as filled with stupid gun toting bumpkins. This attitude is universal, once you start looking for it. The bumkpins, to be blunt, as jolly will sick of it. Empathy is more than simply talking one of one, ir's about seeing "flyover country" as filled with perfectly human people, just as educated, just as well read, just as sophisticated as people are in New Jersey or Connecticut or California. Honestly, there are days when I think the (wealthy, white) liberal elite are struggling so hard to see people of color as humans that they have jettisoned the middle 2/3 of the country. It's like they're unable to hold the idea of that many fully formed humans in their heads at once.
To be fair, there is a frighteningly high number of 'stupid gun toting bumpkins' here in the rural South, or at least in rural Louisiana. The number of people I see on a daily basis who take pride in not reading books, ever, is insane. There are many who bully and demean others who enjoy reading. So no, the characterisation isn't wholly inaccurate, no matter how much I wish it was.
10:19 I disagree with this. I have found that changing my language and perspective when talking to conservatives and especially gamers tends to lead to a better overall discussion. This plays more into the lefts problem with vocabulary. The vocabulary on the left is exceptionally fluid combine this with poor representation leads to many on the left being unintelligible to anyone not also on the left.

The reason you can't talk with the right is because of your attitude. Whenever you say 'don't engage in public debates, your reasoning is backwards. You say not to engage in public debates simply because it doesn't advance your political beliefs, rather than because it doesn't help or edify anyone. It's a little bit hypocritical to criticise people on the right for being so rigid-minded when you yourself say that you shouldn't engage with them because it does nothing to advance your political agenda. That's hypocritical. It seems as though you're so preoccupied with advancing your political agenda and winning people over that you've forgotten to stand up for the truth. The reason we shouldn't engage in public debates is because they are unethical by their very nature, not because they do nothing to give us power. But you only think in terms of gaining power rather than teaching people the truth. Forget politics. Politics is the pursuit of power rather than the pursuit of truth. When you say , 'don't meet them where they're at' your reason is because it does nothing to advance your world-view and beliefs. But we SHOULD meet our enemies where they are at. We need to find common ground with our enemies if we want peace, which is a greater value power.
Politics are what affect peoples lives. Truth is nice and all, but it does nothing to help people in itself and a lot of people use manipulative methods to convince the sudience of their (potentially harmful) viewpoints. They aren't interested in finding the truth. So what I think he means is not to give these people what they want. Public debates are seldomly for finding truth rather than for spreading your own views. I see debate for the sake of truth as different from that. They tend to be on a more personal level and I do agree that they are important for improving ones understanding of the World.

The right could do the same with guns, after all those against the guns which safeguard us against tyranny are thus the handmaidens of tyranny. So what does that justify.... and who does actually act on such reasoning with unlimited license. Applying the lefts own reasoning, the left are too dangerous to be allowed to speak, no debate, no platform, no evil.
None of the true believers ever had beliefs compatible with libertarianism. If you believe in engineering a society based on statistics on alleged human phenotypes and innate traits, you have already acknowledged that individual sovereignty is not a legitimate concept to you.
no, the right are really just bad people. Maybe one or two, but it seems like the ones I have affected were just naive/ignorant at the time, like I was when I entertained trash beliefs, and finally saw the light.
@DOSTGOYEVSKY ! I'd say i have deffinitely contributed to changing some of their minds. I managed to get my moderate-right mother to come around on certain things (trans rights, tax policies and integration of minority races comes to mind), I managed to get my grandparents to be at least a bit more acceptive to homosexuality where they dont view it as something awful, but just with silent contempt, and i did get a couple classmates in highschool to shift their stance on immogration. Now, dont get me wrong, all of the people i've mentioned are still on the right (or are centrists), but i think its just as important to focus on specific issues instead of broad, sweeping ideologies. If you can get someone around on one issue but nothing else, thats still a victory and you should do it.
@@avigindratt7608 Communist logic, people who won't pay for my life are murderers, thus everyone against me are bad people and anything i justified against them. My first suggestion, give arguments an actual try. If you don't see your opponents perceptive as valid as yours, you have never engaged in an argument. If what you are trying to accomplish is not to find the truth, you have never engaged in an argument. Your diffraction of debunking is "be Lauder than you opponent." Not really respectable. Although I respect you confessing this is not an argument. May be the reason why racism is still a thing, the fact that instead of persuading people they are wrong, you just shamed them into shadows, where they can do just as much harm. You did suggest this action is undemocratic and immoral(to force change in society and tell people to follow or fall behind,) but I heard no good reason why that is a wrong idea, this is a necessary evil, or for some reason we should do it. The Woman in you trio of "black man, woman, and jew " passed primaries with cheating. Was in favor of Iraq war,... . she had so many reasons to be not elected, still DT won her the popular vote. Has talking to neo nazis ever worked for you? And yeah, the electoral college and not having Single Transferable Vote really complicates things for the US
Cuz flat earthers and anti vaxxers have perceptions worth arguing. Sure. Some things are true. Some things are moral. Some things are right. These are not worth debating with people who disagree.
Hmmm. War on climate change would be merely aesthetic, so i don't see the contradiction. Even if there was real contradiction the question is whether to go for it anyways just like there's rightwingers that say lefties don't get bit....es and all women are who...s and on the other hand those that say you should save yourself for marriage
How you treat people and how you vote both have moral implications, so the deserve to be treated on fairly equal footing. The conclusion you're drawing is just pure confusion on your part.

@God Fire Inferno

Finally, black people in america and "the west" in general can indeed not be racist in a meaningful way.

RWA: Well, the historians have exagger--
Me (interrupting, standing at parade rest, towering over him, deep voice): I'm sorry, but the primary sources do not support your hypothesis.
I have a good character and reputation, so he did less damage to me than himself.)
I know this sounds like so much macho posturing, because it is!
Great points. Thanks for writing it.
You are a fucking moron

Has a "rightwinger" ever changed your mind?
Might be possible if he had one.
My viewpoints on guns have changed a lot
Yea, I was a right winger for years and Steven Crowder's disguisting personality managed to turn me into a socialist

WAIT HE MADE THINGS OF BEAUTY?????????????????
Your solutions all seem to start with the assumption that you must be right. Then you go on to try to figure out how to convince those that disagree. You don't seem to have an open mind.
I disagree that it's that simple.
I mean, duh. Nobody holds beliefs that they think to be untrue. That doesnt make any sense.
Facts are not debatable. Nazis like Richard Spencer deserve to be beat.
foodice, are you really entertaining the notion that the right, and especially the alt-right, isn't wrong? It's pretty demonstrable on a range of issues.
: I worded that oddly. Andrew is right. And, its not necessarily the right, but anyone that disagrees on any given point.
I failed to articulate what I was picking up on. Its like the difference between argument and persuasion. The former is about finding the truth and the latter is simply about convincing your opponent and isn't an ethical way of debating. He doesn't seem ready to be wrong about something.
I’m glad I’m not in this guys family
Just for reference, there is at least one complete discipline of changing individual minds, the "elephant and rider" model (see The Happiness Hypothesis, and Switch: How to Change When Change Is Hard) and of course there is a complete discipline of changing minds en mass, see "propaganda" which you get at with the "everyone wants to be normal" thing.
An essential element of "debunking" as you frame it is to simply assert baldly "that ain't normal. this is normal, that's not."
The left spends way too much goddamned time trying to frame things as if this was a debate club. too damn much logic, too damn much cute metaphor, etc.
Some of it might be general annoyance with the electoral college
You've missed the point, he clearly stated it's not a miscommunication and rather a problematic world view.
@@zzfoe I am disagreeing with that point.

Well you voted to increase my insurance costs and decrease the likelyhood of me finding better healthcare....so, by your own rationale You're a Bad Person.
The Horde i think the difference is that while his vote went towards a system that would make insurance somewhat more expensive, your vote (based of what i can infer from your comment) went towards a system that would straight up remove his health insurance. and when he votes to “make your insurance more expensive,” then it sounds like you are someone who is able to afford that price tag, because the basis of leftist policy is leveling the playing field and promoting equality.
hope that cleared something up.
God Fire Inferno: Yup, you pretty much validated everything this guy says about you people. Nice performative aggression/aggrievement.
@God Fire Inferno nope, it's getting raped by border patrol, it's being stopped dozens of times for breaking into a house that you own, it being paid less or not getting a job if you have the wrong sounding name, it's being shot for cosplaying, it's after telling a telling a personal story and getting accused of lying or getting ignored or both, it's doctors not believing that something really is wrong and having to go to five different ones before getting a diagnosis.
It's a lot of things, big and small. Could you maybe do a bit better research, before generalising.
If you say for the extreme left violence is in the eye of the beholder and anarchist are to much for your taste, that's understandable and if others say they only agree with them because of neo nazis (which is what the video was about) that wouldn't surprise me or most other left learning people.
God Fire Inferno You are the definition of an anti intellectual and you will spend the rest of your life never considering that this could be true
Hahaha oh boy. Put simple: no.
Cool video, I wish u had a better understanding outside your assumptions tho.
@Draevon May he has a whole YT channel so…
This entire lecture comes off as totalitarian damage control. I expected better, Ian.
"totalitarian damage control"? What is that even supposed to mean? Do you know what totalitarism is ? And damage control for what?
Totaltarianism is an ideology that supports an all powerful centralized government with an unified ideology and demands complete subservience to the state at the pain of humiliation, imprisonment or death. Like the modern Progressive movement.
@@mrblank-zh1xy "Like the modern Progressive movement."
What the fuck are you saying? Who did you hear ask for a Stalinian kind of regime. You're just strawmaning people whose politic you disagree with to an absolutly ridiculous extreme.
Props for having the right definition at least, but before criticizing "progressivism" try to aks what it stands for. Usually left-leaning people are liberals when it comes to societal issues. It's not the left who asks for more police, more CCTVs, a larger military... It's also not the left that tries to trample individual rights such as abortion, gay marriage or trans recognition.
I'm not saying that all right leaning people are authoritarian though, that would be a gross oversimplification, but please, don't do the same either. When you compare what he says there to Stalin, you just prove that you don't know what you're talking about.
Also, you didn't answer me about what you meant by "damage control"...
Yea, you‘re one of those people not invited to the convo atm.
"Don't want to talk about something you don't understand..." Lol, kinda funny.
Edit: You oversimplify and contradict yourself throughout the presentation. The good vs evil narrative is dangerous and dehumanizing. Tone down the moral superiority and try and think outside your ideology.
No. Not in this case. There is this golden mean fallacy all too frequent in politics where "We should look at both sides of the debate" and "Maybe we should look for a compromise." That's a nice sentiment and it makes total sense in theory, but that's something too easily exploited by batshit insane ideologies to shif the Overton window. Ian is talking about fascists here and you shouldn't try to meet fascists in the middle otherwise, you're playing their game.
In a debate, sometime, one side is simply right, and when it comes to the Alt-Right versus the Left, the latter is objectively in the right and compromising just for the sake of looking fair isn't worth it.
@@lhumanoideerrantdesinterne8598 "objectively" oh you mean how objectively evolution stops at the neck?
The communist line of thinking is evident here, refusing to pay for my healthcare, my life, that's murder, and now any and all things are justified. The moral righteousness is a given, as is the evil that results.
Something tells me he got his lunch money taken quite a bit as a beta lad.
You have ZERO argument against members of the “alt right” who came from the old libertarian party.
None of the true believers ever had beliefs compatible with libertarianism. If you believe in engineering a society based on statistics on alleged human phenotypes and innate traits, you have already acknowledged that individual sovereignty is not a legitimate concept to you.
omg you thought you‘re invited
So is there a difference between something that happened and something that literally happened ?
Great speech
Has anyone in the comments changed the mind of a right wing person? Just curious if thats possible....
@DOSTGOYEVSKY ! undone by your own poor grammar.
no, the right are really just bad people.
The right could apply the same to things like guns as they are the final safe guard against tyranny, but in general, they don't.
So really, who are the "bad" people.
Then don't talk to them. They have absolutely nothing to say.
Yay civil war soon then?
Yea, you are correct that these solutions are not satisfactory, but more like criminal.

And yeah, the electoral college and not having Single Transferable Vote really complicates things for the US
Cuz flat earthers and anti vaxxers have perceptions worth arguing. Sure.
Some things are true. Some things are moral. Some things are right. These are not worth debating with people who disagree.
Number 3 is the important one. Be Nice or I'll make your life miserable.
Hmmm. War on climate change would be merely aesthetic, so i don't see the contradiction. Even if there was real contradiction the question is whether to go for it anyways just like there's rightwingers that say lefties don't get bit....es and all women are who...s and on the other hand those that say you should save yourself for marriage
By that logic, if I don't help you move and vote to raise your taxes that makes me a good person.
How you treat people and how you vote both have moral implications, so the deserve to be treated on fairly equal footing. The conclusion you're drawing is just pure confusion on your part.
