Today's classical music is mostly all about gimmicks. Who can sing a tana the fastest(with ashuddha aakar and losing shadja in between), who can sing in more vilambit or the fastest chota khyal singer etc. No justice to raga or to the fact that this music is called 'shastriya'. Music like Veena Tai's and Kishori Tai's are nonpareil.
This beautiful rendition always brings tears to my eyes, both of pain and joy: Pain because Veenaji is no longer with us and joy because Veenaji has worked so hard with determination to achieve such a difficulty that can be recognized throughout the world. Hats off to Veenaji and this beautiful rendition of Raag Bihag. May her soul Rest In Peace. Her voice and musical spirit will always have a special place in our hearts. 💖💖💖💖💖💖

I have actually learnt the bihag vilambit " kaise sukh sove" that veena tai has sung but i love the way veena tai has sung the vilambit with so much bhav and terav snd calmness
I have found Veenaji's performances the best to practice with, as the A sharp she favours is least demanding to my ageing vocal chords :). Plus her soulful and unhurried vistaar is soothing and crystal clear.

The madhyalay bandish is in teentaal. the bol are, Le jaa re jaa re pathikava, itano sandeesa piya ko, sukha chain mohe kachu na suhaave. ( the poet is saying to the messenger (pathikwa, prolly symbollic for wind) that tell my lover/SO (piya) that (without him) I'm restless. Keeje na mose nithurayi aaisi, bega mil aavo daras ki pyaasi, bin gunijan kaise sukh paave? lee ja re ja! ( please don't play with my heart for I am suffering from not seeing you. Oh Gunijan (the poet) how can attain happiness/ peace (without him).
