Don't get me wrong, most of these people are talented, but sometimes the Small Business hype kind of gets on my nerves. Like many of them buy stuff in bulk, then repackage them and sell them for a crazy amount. Or just the way they act about their businesses, like being small or woman-owned is the reason you should buy from them. Most of them are fine, but some are just... so... annoying
I agree especially the Victoria secret perfume one. They can honestly get sued for that if they don’t have permission from the company. I do have a small business on Etsy but I do hand made stuff and trying to improve my crafts or drawing or whatever I’m working on
Don't get me wrong. As a 12 year old small business owner (I work with my Mom and Dad) I love small businesses and I will always purchase from them. But when you are reselling products without permission from the company and getting loads of clout when people like me who make everything by hand and I don't have nearly as much clout as they do. It's really unfair when all they did was buy something and re-sell it for twice as much money when I'm struggling to even get a couple orders per day. Thanks for reading 🥰
1:51 this rock soap one is actually useful! Don’t get me wrong, the other small businesses are great, but soap is something you actually need! Other businesses just bulk buy things and then sell them for outrageous prices. If you want to start your own business, put some thought into it and don’t spend so much time on packaging (btw I’m not saying that these other businesses are not useful. I actually like some of these like the lip balm one)
I would really love to make a small business, but balancing the art of doing something I love doing, but also doesn’t take too long because I don’t want to undervalue my products. I’m also deathly afraid of upstart costs.
LISTEN. if you have been wanting to start a small business you have to stop watching these videos. You don’t want to start online this is one of the most fatal mistakes you can make. You want to first do research and assess what talents you have that people would want to buy. Then make sure all your designs are ORIGIONAL. Then you want to start small, maybe at a local festival or flea market where you can rent a booth. See if your product is worth buying. And make sure it’s your product that makes people want to buy from you. All these tik toks pressure people into thinking they have to buy from them because their “minority owned”. That’s not a bad thing, but it shouldn’t be the whole point of your business
I've been doing local vendor shows in a variety of roles for easily 25 years. I started selling root beer bottles at them as a way to earn money while stuck there all day with our mom. My brother and I took turns managing our booth while the other did laps around the craft show asking if people wanted to buy root beer for $1.25. We sold the crap outta that root beer! My next endeavor at the craft show was selling my own homemade granola along side our root beer. Eventually I had to step away because my sister had to retire from her craft show job which was selling and helping someone who made homemade beef jerky in 3 flavors and the best homemade fudge and lemonade ever. I took that job over and managed half specifically the lemonade side (making the lemonade and taking the money/doing the change) while my boss/the dude who made the delicious treats (his name was Ted and he's from Pittsburgh and did a lot of shows around the country) handled the other. Eventually the craft shows we did together ended, and I moved on to making my own stuff with my mom who has always been a craft vendor at the shows I worked. Last year I started my newest endeavor dog and people gourmet cookies (the dog ones are gluten free) and I plan on keeping that up as I sold out my second show and made $60 my first time which was only a couple bag of dog cookies and that was insane all things considered. I'm going to try and take this farther and I have two more things I want to try and sell before I'll even consider starting an online business. The point of my little tanget is I only am as sure of my self as I am because of all the experience I got attending local shows and making connections with real people. Your community is a great place to start, never underestimate what a valuable resource community really is.
Isn't it illegal to resell things? That perfume one, I'm sure could get into a lot of trouble for stealing the perfume/the name AND reselling it. Taylor Swift was sued for trying to make a product line called Lucky 13, and the company that was originally lucky13 made her change the name of her product line or they would sue more money. And that's TAYLOR SWIFT using the same name not reselling the products. Also I don't mean reselling for a garage sale from lightly used, never used or unopened..ect. I mean, actually buying the products off of these companies that work hard to come up with these ideas and have someone buy them and resell them claiming it is their "small business" There's a difference between partnering with a small business vs reselling the product as ur own.
@@artifully technically she isn't selling them as hers if she is telling you what the product is. She is letting you know where and who it came from. The legality comes from whether or not that company allows resales. Selling something as your own would include having to hide that it is someone else's. The question is guess really is is it legal to sell samples of a product you own amd purchased. No different than when someone puts chips in a small bag and sells them for like 25cents. You didn't sell it as your own ships, just a smaller bag of chips you bought.
