Well mr i do bodywork and its almost the same as this once you get the hang of learning what bolts, screws, and clips are what. Just practice a little and you could become a mechanic yourself

I think I biffed replacing mine. Put in a new top and bottom thermostat now no ohms are showing up not sure exactly what I did.
My water heater is heating the water at 165 degrees at it's lowest setting. Would that mean the thermostat is faulty or there is a gap between the thermostat and the water heater?
My water heater is getting too hot and leaking from the relief valve. Does that sound like a thermostat problem? I have to reset it every other day but I'm just going to leave it off for now.

@@kissfan8675309 I did. I rebuilt the entire unit since it's only 4 years old. I had a warranty on all the parts. All new thermostats and elements did it for me.
Can it be a Polaroid?
My water is not getting as hot as it used to, even if I turn the thermostat up. I have replaced the element recently. Could the thermostat be partially broken, as in it is heating but switching off too low.

How do you know which of the upper or lower thermostats need replacing? What do they do differently to each other?
They alternate between the upper and lower tanks. As cheap as they are you might as well just replace both while you’re at it. Other than that you’ll have to test with a voltmeter

Breaker started tripping, so I had an electrician run tests on the water heater. After running the tests on the upper/lower elements and thermostats, only the lower thermostat showed as failed. I replaced it, but the breaker tripped again after about 6 minutes. While the tank was still drained, I replaced the lower element, even though the one in the tank looked and tested good, and also replaced the anode rod. Filled up the tank and the breaker tripped again after 5-6 minutes. Shall I just go ahead and replace the upper thermostat and element, or could there be a problem someplace else?

@@cking3411 I ended up replacing both thermostats and elements, even though only the lower element tested bad, which was the hot water issue. But my problem was a 2 fold, the other being a tripped breaker. That problem was found out to be a loose wire on the breaker itself, which was causing arcing and the breaker would overheat and trip. Once the loose wire was fixed, both issues were resolved. I now have plenty of water and no more breaker tripping.
@nyrainman4897 I replaced both thermostats. Checked wiring and breakers. All was ok. Also put in new elements. It's still tripping the breaker though.
With both new thermostats, I get power to top but not bottom. With old ones, it's reversed. I figured 1 new was bad and 1 old was bad. Mixed it up. Still same problem. I'm going crazy haha.
I know only 1 element powers on at a time, cycles between the 2. But while 1 is off, it's still supposed to get 120v. But it shows 0. When I get off work, I guess I'm just gonna check all wires to make sure none are cracked or exposed where they not supposed to be. After that, I give up. Just buy a New one I guess.
@@cking3411 In reference to the thermostats, if I remember correctly, since the thermostats work independently, you should only get power to the top because the top element heats up first. I believe to test if you have power to the bottom, you need to disable the wires to the top and the bottom should power up. I think that is what I did, but if so, be careful, as your wiring up top with still be hot and open.
So if you've replaced both thermostats and elements and your breaker is still tripping, it can be a wiring issue (mine was a loose wire on the breaker) or even a bad breaker.
So with that said, does your breaker trip immediately after you turn it back on or after a few minutes? Immediately points to the breaker being bad and after a few minutes, that points to wiring. Also, if your tank is old, you may even have bad wiring that connects the thermostats, I seen it where someone had a bad wiring that fed the power from the top thermostat to the bottom. They replaced the wire and that fixed there problem.
Also, make sure all your screw heads and wiring in the tank are clean and not rusty, as that can effect your connection and possibly cause a problem.
@nyrainman4897 The Water Heater and Breaker I replaced both at the same time, new. That was about 3yrs ago. Terminals and wires are still in excellent shape. As for the breaker tripping, most of the time it's about 5mins after I reset it. But it has tripped instantly also. It didn't even stay in the on position. As soon as I released the switch, it went straight to the middle. 1 out of the 4 times I reset it today, it tripped instant. The other 3 times was about 5mins after reset.
Since the breaker is only 3yrs old, I've been trying to troubleshoot everything else first. But it very well could be the breaker. The closest store is a ways away and the other parts I already had on hand, hoping I could resolve the issue without another trip to Lowes haha. But I may have to go tomorrow before work.
Not all the time thermostat is the problem why you not getting hot water it could be heater element

Yes very well explained, but not all water heaters are free to walk around, lets see him change a water heater element and thermostat, when insitu in a proper envoironment, IE: like in and airing cupboard, bet he won't be wearing make up either.

Couldn't watch video because I was triggered by his eye. Also I saw he just opened the lower thermostat instead of the upper.
