- We give Alora Hops a run in this new SMASH beer sampling.
Alora hops are said to deliver peach and apricot with notes of melon and citrus. We had a hard time picking peach out of our sample. Overall the hop had a green melon aroma with notes of under-ripe fleshy fruits.
Alora hops might work as a standalone hop if used in higher quantities. Overall, we thought this hops fits into the nice filler hop category. It will likely be a supportive hop character to make other hops shine.
CHEERS!

The precursors in this hop is supposed to make it really work well with those thiol yeasts. That’s what I’m gonna try it with
Just brewed my swcond batch with these. This time a hazy ipa with helio gazer yeast, and lighter malt bill. I do get peach, but in a candy peach flavor, not a fruit peach flavor. I think its great.
Call me old school, but I think the chase for hop varieties is tied to the craft beer habit of chasing trends to keep up with their fickle young customers (The everyone wins a trophy generation). And I'm not a fan of it. I say stick with the basics. Germans and Czechs make some of the best beer in the world and they use just a few old school hops. Thanks Dudes!
Although I agree with your theory, innovation and experimentation is how we create new staples. Though, I think breweries also need a solid fondness and understanding of classic styles.
Who the hell wants beer to taste like peach or melon? I want beer flavoured beer.
So, what hops do you consider beer flavored beer?

Just brewed a pale ale with these. I think I'll be a little more heavy handed next time, but I was getting a peach ring gummy type of thing. I really enjoy it.
If you want peach use the Verdant IPA yeast from Lallemand, gives a ton of that on the nose.
I was waiting for the green grape skin flavor comment. It just usually seems to be a common comment. I heard green..... And then onion😮
