    Practically, oven users learn that the floor of the oven loses a LOT of heat. A 100 mm rock wool floor insulation would make a world of difference. But, your masonry and engineering skills are absolutely incredible!

      I learned that by living:) I didn’t think that the bottom of the dome would cause that much heat loss,. Thus I added another layer with insulation to the floor. It both reduced the heat loss and the hight of the door . It works great now. Thanks

      yes, from the bottom to top, it should be quartz stone layer, pieces/particles of glass layer, salt (without iodine) layer, and then masonry layer. This would gives efficient results.

    Salam/Peace
    I have learned a lot from you, so few things that I can share with you. Hope u don't take it as an offence.
    Few pieces of advice.
    1) u have missed insulation on the base, I have did the similar mistake and it caused me nightmares. My pizza oven despite large fires wont hold heat. Have to scrap it, now in the process of making it third time.
    2nd piece of advice I have now made a hole 4inch by 4inch in the floor for burner. In future if I want to switch to gas option, I can have it installed without any alteration. And till the time I don't want gas option I can have it closed by placing a firebrick. more over I have this option to use the same brick as vent for smoker.
    3rdly the pizza oven door arches should be of different length, atleast few mm so that u can place the door on its lips and completely seal the heat inside. in your build since both arches were of equal height there was no way to prevent the heat from escaping via vent. and using the oven with its retained heat. Even if u stop heat from escaping at vent, the retained heat will not be efficient to cook multiple batches of bread or cookies.
    Thank you, you are a very resourceful and competent man, we all make mistakes, and its learning opportunity for all of Us.

    • @DanielDemir
      @DanielDemir  3 роки тому +4

      Thank you very much for your advice. You are right the floor insulation very important, thus I added floor insulation in my 4th Episode. Since it was my first time building a wood-fired oven, I made some mistakes but I learned a lot throughout the whole process. Overall, I am very well satisfied with my oven and I have been using it almost every week. I will be building another one in the future if I move to another house and I strongly believe that it will be a lot better than this one. Thanks for your feedback.

    Little late now but one should never lay the bricks in the pattern you did, they should land in a herringbone pattern, that way when you slide your pizza peel out it doesn’t bang or catch into a straight edge if the bricks settle or raise up, that way you’re always sliding across the bricks diagonally, 😢

    • @DanielDemir
      @DanielDemir  3 роки тому +5

      Yes you are right. I am first time using bricks in my entire life and didn’t think that it would be a problem. Actually I have been using this over 6 months and never had this problem you mentioned so far. The biggest problem I had is loosing a lot of heat from the bottom since I didn’t add any insulation material to the bottom. Also my arc is little too big causing heat loss. Thanks for your feedback. Appreciated

    Hi Demir,
    I have been studying your vids quite a bit as of late (my wife Janet, is laughing at me but loves me still and approves of the project after seeing your pizza and dutch oven bread recipes!):)).
    Reading some of the comments below I have a few questions for you; hopefully you are able to give it a thought and reply?
    1. You mentioned in a reply on a comment below, you would change a few things around if you were to build a new oven; what would you change?? you replied among other you would make the arc (dome?) smaller??
    2. Could you give an (approximate) list of materials you have used especially the amount of firebricks used for oven floor and dome??
    Thanks Demir and a happy & healthy 2021 - cheers Gary

    • @DanielDemir
      @DanielDemir  3 роки тому +3

      1. The most major change I would do would be adding the insulation before building the dome. If you see the Ep 5, I had to add floor insulation that I missed when I first built my oven. Adding floor insulation also changed the height of my door by about 4 inches that help prevent the heat loss. So I recommend the the door height to be around 14" with 28" width.
      2. I used about 380 bricks but If I would add the floor insulation earlier it would be around 300 bricks in total. Because I spent approximately 80 bricks for the floor insulation later as shown in the Ep 5. Other then that , you can see all of the other materials I used in the videos. I really don't know how many bags of mortar I used since I bought one more as needed. Probably around 5 bags (80 pounds each). I also used 2 bags of vermiculate for the dome insulation and I box of fire blanket. You can find the type of blanket and vermiculate I used in the description box. Hope this information will help. If you leave in USA please email me your phone number at demirfantx@gmail.com so we can exchange our phone numbers so I can better help. Thanks
