Adam, I am truly moved by this salute to Graeham Gobles masterpiece. I was among the very fortunate youths who were first to own this album, in 1978 was emblazoned in my soul. The meticulousness of these band mates that created a genre of it’s own, I worked in radio that very same year in my first job. And it stuck. Funny how all these years later, the music of our generation was relevant and truly mattered.
Adam you have become the best interviewer in the music 🎶 scene. The musical talent respects your meticulous knowledge and research of their interests that it brings joy for the both of you in the interview. This song " Reminiscing" will go down in history as top 25 greatest written and performed songs.
Sheer Magic! One of my favorite all time songs with the ghosts of Glenn Miller, Cole Porter and the big bands of that era. Simply amazing that the words just flowed out for Graeham Goble. This is just perfection I can't say enough. Fantastic interview please keep the Little River Band coming, please tell me there is more
It’s a PERFECT song. One of my go-to songs whenever I’m feeling awful, like this week especially. It’s just been tough with so much schoolwork. So when I work on my paper tonight I’m turning on the best of Little River Band. 😊
Great segment about a classic. As a 5 year-old in 1978, this was such a smooth and buttery sound all the way through, from the vocals, to the bass, to the strings and harmonies. It was ear candy like nothing else that year, which is saying something as 1978 was the year of the Bee Gees. Also, I still think that Mike Rutherford was influenced by those great rhythm chords when Genesis wrote "Throwing it All Away". There's definitely a bit of a nod to Reminiscing there, to my ears. Thanks, Dave
I heard Glenn Shorrock sing this live in a little theatre in Brisbane Australia in the mid 80's - I got goosebumps and will never forget it! A treasured memory of mine x
I'm an Aussie, watched LRB on Countdown. When it was released, I absolutely loved it as a teenager. I was also brought up on musicals and music of the 1930s and 40s. This is such an elegant work. It's my favourite LRB song, still ranks as one of my favourite songs.
In the 70s and 80s, Aussie bands were playing for a relatively small market and had to “sell” their songs live to a pretty brutal rock pub audience. It wasn’t the place for the shy or those who preferred the studio. You can hear in a lot of bands a “live” sound, from the Easybeats to AC/DC to INXS to 90s/noughties bands like Spiderbait, Regurgitator, The Grates and Powderfinger. I don’t know much about LRBs history live but I bet they were good.
I love the way Mr. Goble describes not just his inspiration for "Reminiscing" but how each member contributed to it. Their musicianship is so underrated. Thank you for taking the time to explain it to us.
I was a little too young to really appreciate this song at the time. But, with that said, what a treat to visit this song again later in life. I never appreciated the layering and complexity until now. Thank you for moving this and bringing it back from obscurity.
Great interview once more! One of my favorite songs, one guaranteed to make me smile when I sing along. Two takeaways: 1) good to know the current TLRB is not the one I love, and 2) that he was channeling Manhattan Transfer with the harmony. Love MT, too!
Awesome song and band. I enjoy when a song tells a story. Many of the great artist have songs that tell a story and some the entire album is a story. Just another thing that is lost to the past. Be safe all.
Nobody could match the harmonies of this group. Each voice layered to lift up the other, combined with instrumental excellence, made LRB unique among bands of the day. They continue to be at the forefront of my playlists.
Also in the unmatched harmonies & fantastic blend of voices category, I would place The Seekers and The Roches. Among others. But yeah, LRB is way up there too! Fred
There are many groups who sang incredibly distinctive harmonies. The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Crosby, Stills and Nash, The Guess Who, Journey, Styx, Kansas, Heart, Boston, The Bee Gees, Yes… I could go on. People speak in hyperbole to a ridiculous degree, but I get it - you’re a big fan of LRB.
I have always loved this song. I was 4 years old, listening to this on the radio in my parents' car. It's part of the great soundtrack of my childhood. Thanks, Adam and Graeham.
Little River Band and Graham Gobel. I heard Home on Monday on the radio in 1975. Bought their album and every album (original group) since. Amazing harmonies as well as the lyrics. Saw them live in 1979 at the Fox theater in Atlanta, Ga. Best band I have ever heard live.
Like most of us, I remember hearing this on the radio when I was a kid. There was something special about it then and even moreso now that I'm 52. It's just one of those songs that'll always be special to those that remember being young and in love. Especially the one that got away.
The classic story of LRB is where the name came from, they were travelling from Melbourne to Geelong and were told they needed a better name (can't remember the original name) and were passing a sign for a freeway exit for 'Little River".
I LOVE Little River Band and this song, so many memories from when I was growing up. My parents were partiers and there was always music around, always takes me back to that time listening to songs they would have playing on the record player. I wish I could upvote this more than once.
I was at a Little River Band concert many years ago. Glen Frey from The Eagles joined them on stage - I think he genuinely meant it when he said to the audience LRB were the greatest vocal harmony band in the world.
Great episode, I have always been a big fan of LRB and their wonderful songs. For me, Cool Change is one of my all-time favorites with some lyrics that just make me smile...."the albatross and the whale they are my brothers"......absolute gold!!
One of my favorite songs of all time is LRB's full version of It's A Long Way There. The vocals and guitar riffs are fantastic in that underrated song.
Beautiful song, well written and played by dedicated musicians to their art. And, we, the listeners, have benefited immensely. Thank you to the original Little River Band for this and many of their hits.
Reminiscing is one of my favorite songs of all time!! Thank you for this interview about the writing and production process. I'm a professional multi-instrumentalist who grew up listening to radio in the 70s and 80s...this song still ranks among my biggest influences.
Great interview prof R..my goosebump moment was when I realised I could remember as a 8 year old watching the very performance by LRB on the iconic Australian muzic show Countdown where I just learnedf the idea for this song was born ..as I am sure other Australians could as well?......thanks for those goosebumps :)
The band's before my time, but even as an Aussie I had no clue they were an Australian band, despite knowing and loving many of their songs. Whenever Reminiscing is being played, there's something about it that grabs my soul and takes me on a trip, as do many of their songs, the band is something special that's for sure.

Reportedly, even Frank Sinatra was a fan of this song and he didn't like rock and roll. Glenn Shorrock had an incredible voice and really made this tune soar.
because it's NOT ROCK. It's very good, sure. But... they guy is talking about listening to GLENN MILLER.... the guy died during WWII...... this is something that would have fit in in Sinatra's time. I could have seen him singing it...
Omgosh, I had completely forgotten about this song!!! Adam, PoR!!!!!! You just made a huge amount of memories come rushing back into my head!!! I had to go listen to the whole song!!! Thank you @professor of Rock !!!
I was just out buying groceries and on the way home this played (I have it on my phone and listen to it fairly often). I hadn't paid that much attention to the lyrics over the last 35 years but I thought "is he talking about Glen Miller?" and I get home a few minutes ago and found this on UA-cam. Quite the coincidence. LRB did some beautiful stuff.
I was in the grocery store this past weekend and this came on over the PA system. I would have burst into song if I had remembered the lyrics, been 30 years or so since I last heard it. I'm ready for next time!
A truely great Writer, Band , etc. The music touched you in a special way. And it left you with Happiness, Hope , and a little Heart ache. I send my Thanks to this man and the rest.
I enjoy listening to them so much, for so many years! My favorite is the Night Owls. The beat, and the bass line made me get up and move (or want to)! I’m 66 now, was lucky to see so many concerts in the late ‘70s and early’80s, when tickets were $15-$25. I lived in San Diego CA. So close to the Sports Arena, we sometimes saw more than one show per week. I need to get my album out with my ticket stubs!

It's 2023 & It's All Fabulous Song's..I Love" Little River Band" ! & I'm 68..Even Younger People Are Loving It..💜💜💜🎼🎵🎶🎼🌹⚘️😁
Adam, I am truly moved by this salute to Graeham Gobles masterpiece.
I was among the very fortunate youths who were first to own this album, in 1978 was emblazoned in my soul. The meticulousness of these band mates that created a genre of it’s own,
I worked in radio that very same year in my first job. And it stuck.
Funny how all these years later, the music of our generation was relevant and truly mattered.
How could you not love this song? This has been one of my favorite songs since I was a little kid. I never tire of it.
Same. 100% phenomenal.
This was great to learn I have loved this song since 1978
Little River Band is just so easy to listen to and love. Thank you for this and please continue with the fabulous content 🌈🐦
Adam you have become the best interviewer in the music 🎶 scene. The musical talent respects your meticulous knowledge and research of their interests that it brings joy for the both of you in the interview. This song " Reminiscing" will go down in history as top 25 greatest written and performed songs.
LRB had many great songs! Grew up in the 70’s listening to them!
Sheer Magic! One of my favorite all time songs with the ghosts of Glenn Miller, Cole Porter and the big bands of that era. Simply amazing that the words just flowed out for Graeham Goble. This is just perfection I can't say enough. Fantastic interview please keep the Little River Band coming, please tell me there is more
It's a keeper for sure. So catchy.
@@ProfessorofRock fantastic interview I hope there is more!!
...BEEN WAITIN' FOREVER, for the LRB! ....I'm ecstatic!!
@@RBS_ definitely! There isn't a band like them, fantastic songs and music!
Thanks for listening
Another smooth song I enjoy a lot from around that same time is Feels So Good by Chuck Mangione. Sometimes you just needed a break from disco. 😆
73 baby here as well. I feel the same. Always loved it.
Australia has some of the greats! Such classics.
🤟AC⚡️DC 🤟
Agreed!
#australiaisawesome 🇦🇺
In the 70s and 80s, Aussie bands were playing for a relatively small market and had to “sell” their songs live to a pretty brutal rock pub audience. It wasn’t the place for the shy or those who preferred the studio. You can hear in a lot of bands a “live” sound, from the Easybeats to AC/DC to INXS to 90s/noughties bands like Spiderbait, Regurgitator, The Grates and Powderfinger. I don’t know much about LRBs history live but I bet they were good.
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980 are you Aussie too 🦘?
I love the way Mr. Goble describes not just his inspiration for "Reminiscing" but how each member contributed to it. Their musicianship is so underrated. Thank you for taking the time to explain it to us.
One of my most favorite song of all time.......those harmonies
I was a little too young to really appreciate this song at the time. But, with that said, what a treat to visit this song again later in life. I never appreciated the layering and complexity until now. Thank you for moving this and bringing it back from obscurity.
Have you heard the song "light of day" off the same album? Amazing
Great interview once more! One of my favorite songs, one guaranteed to make me smile when I sing along. Two takeaways: 1) good to know the current TLRB is not the one I love, and 2) that he was channeling Manhattan Transfer with the harmony. Love MT, too!
Manhattan Transfer is amazing.
Awesome song and band. I enjoy when a song tells a story. Many of the great artist have songs that tell a story and some the entire album is a story. Just another thing that is lost to the past. Be safe all.
I knew that it had to be this absolute masterpiece! I have loved this song since day one!
Was a favorite of mine back in the day,the chords the vocals, the keyboard arrangement, just a masterpiece.
Nobody could match the harmonies of this group. Each voice layered to lift up the other, combined with instrumental excellence, made LRB unique among bands of the day. They continue to be at the forefront of my playlists.
Their music just soothed your soul. 🛥️
Brian May is on the phone and wants a chat and Freddie just threw his beer can at the computer monitor wherever he is........
@@crusheverything4449 They also take pompous music snobbery to a ridiculous degree, but I get it - you’re a big fan of yourself.
Dean, was it one of the Expo 1988 gigs in Brisbane?
@@thedys70 Aha, it certainly was! You remember too. Proud of that moment was I.
@@deancooling3480 i'm sure i saw some footage on youtube years ago of that 1988 gig?
@dean cooling I spent so much time at Expo. I had a staff pass so could get in any time including after hours.
Great episode, I have always been a big fan of LRB and their wonderful songs. For me, Cool Change is one of my all-time favorites with some lyrics that just make me smile...."the albatross and the whale they are my brothers"......absolute gold!!
Yes, there is a magnificence and majesty about that track.
One of my favorite songs of all time is LRB's full version of It's A Long Way There. The vocals and guitar riffs are fantastic in that underrated song.
Mine too
Mine too
Yes, my favourite
Beautiful song, well written and played by dedicated musicians to their art. And, we, the listeners, have benefited immensely. Thank you to the original Little River Band for this and many of their hits.
This is the kind of song that when most everyone who hears it, they never get tired of it - again…and again…and again. It’s pleasurable to the ears.
70s radio gold that transitioned into the early 80s nicely and are still in my playlists today.
Agreed!
Nice! I love AM gold.
I got to see Little River Band in concert at the Universal Studios Amphitheater in SoCal in the late 1970s. Loved their music.
Reminiscing is one of my favorite songs of all time!! Thank you for this interview about the writing and production process. I'm a professional multi-instrumentalist who grew up listening to radio in the 70s and 80s...this song still ranks among my biggest influences.
What instruments are you skilled at playing?
Little River band one of my top groups songs....cool change was my Navy song, would listen to it over & over....
Also loved it when John Farnham was the lead singer..his version of Reminiscing just added a little bit extra
Me too
Great interview prof R..my goosebump moment was when I realised I could remember as a 8 year old watching the very performance by LRB on the iconic Australian muzic show Countdown where I just learnedf the idea for this song was born ..as I am sure other Australians could as well?......thanks for those goosebumps :)
The band's before my time, but even as an Aussie I had no clue they were an Australian band, despite knowing and loving many of their songs. Whenever Reminiscing is being played, there's something about it that grabs my soul and takes me on a trip, as do many of their songs, the band is something special that's for sure.
Little River is between Melbourne and Geelong.
Beautiful BEAUTIFUL Music...
So good hearing how this absolute gem of a track came together...
Pure magic.
The greatest Yacht Rock group!!! So many great songs from my high school and college days. Would love you to do an origin story of the term Yacht Rock!!!
Graeham said they were lucky to be band-mates who were on the same page..But in the end it is we, the fans of your music, who are lucky - lucky to have such a smooth song in our heads and our hearts. Thanks Graeham Goble and Little River Band
LRB! Lady is my favorite but Reminiscing is also high on my playlist! Ever wonder how many hits never made it because of bad record company decisions? Great interview. Thanks Adam.
Great band, would love to see them all back together, reminiscing
Another one of my favorite kick back songs back in the day.
I was 5 years old in 1978, and this is one of the first songs I remember hearing. Driving in the station wagon with my mom, hearing this song on light rock radio…
And what a great interview!
Thanks Sean!
My mom made friends with one girl in her 4th grade class that year and they remain friends to this day! That’s the magic of 1978. 🥰
I saw LRB here in Sydney just after the release of their 2nd album, they were FANTASTIC, destined for greatness .
Always loved LRB & they have so many awesome songs & deeply proud they got recognised internationally.
Was in my first year of high school when Reminiscing broke & it was huge here in Australia & they played it everywhere, but it sounds so fresh & awesome as the first time I heard it.
Have a deep respect for Graeme & all the guys & thanks so much for showcasing this amazing song!
Another good one Professor. My dad listened to them when I was a kid. Lonesome loser is one of my favorites.
Great song!
I love Lonesome Loser and Lady and The Other Guy.
“Beaten By The Queen Of Hearts Everytime”
One of my very favorite songs, not to mention their many great hits! Very talented band! I get goosebumps when I hear their music on my Playlist! Lots of very amazing memories for me and the friends I hung out with!
Reportedly, even Frank Sinatra was a fan of this song and he didn't like rock and roll. Glenn Shorrock had an incredible voice and really made this tune soar.
and it was also documented that john lennon was also a great fan of this song after hearing it on the radio
because it's NOT ROCK.
The Night Owls is soooooo good! 🎶
Another all time great! You knocked it our of the park POR! Thank you so much for giving this song its due!!!
Great song. Interesting history. It makes you appreciate the enormous amount of hard work that goes into writing such an intricate song. The talent is obvious.
Agree Robert.
As an Aussie, this is one of my favourite Songs by LRB (Top 3 being this song, "Cool Change" and "Help is On the Way"). Great interview. and amazing to understand how this song came to be.
