  • brs.li/TunzeOsm... The Tunze Osmolator 3155 is easily the most popular auto top off that we sell; it's purchased 5 times as often as any other ATO on our site!
    It's one of our favorites, too, because of it really sets itself apart from other ATO's with reliability, safety, mounting options and future flexibility. While pretty much any auto top off will be safe to use for a year or so, we want our tanks up for many years so reliability is one of our top concerns.
    A lot of ATO's rely on float switches for their primary level control, which in the long run fail pretty frequently since they rely on moving parts to function.
    The Osmolator uses an optical eye which a completely different technology to monitor the water level. This doesn't have any moving parts, and I've personally never seen this fail in the on position. In addition, the Osmolator has a safety float switch as a back-up sensor. Even if that somehow failed, it's equipped with a 10-minute internal timer to turn the ATO off completely if the pump is ever on for 10 or more minutes.
    Installation of is super easy and takes about 5 minutes. You'll need a container to act as your water reservoir, a food grade bucket works well. Find a convenient place to mount the control box using the included velcro strips.
    Take note of the three lines coming out of the control box, you have a power line for the included pump, a line to the optical sensor and a line for the float switch.
    The pump isn't connected directly to the control box by design, so you can route the cord through the top of your top off container before connecting to the control box.
    Note: Be sure to always place the water output above your auto top off storage container to prevent siphons.
    The final step is to connect your sensors to the included magnetic mount, with the optical eye pointing down and the float switch pointing up. If you don't have a sump, you can place the sensor mount directly in the tank. You can do the same in the sump at the level you'd like to keep your water at.

    That 10 minute shut off timer really should be adjustable. 10 minutes of water flowing into your tank can be A LOT, even if you turn the flow all the way down to “nano” on the board. Personally, I would want the option to bring that down to ONE minute (less, if possible). Especially considering most top offs on my little 25 gallon tank take less than five seconds!
    This was a big reason why I chose the Smart ATO Micro over this option. The Smart ATO doesn’t have a back up float sensor, but the timer measures the length of the first fill after it powers on, and won’t let it fill any longer than 3x that. So if your first fill was five seconds, if will shut off and alarm at 15 seconds. Simple, but has worked like a charm for me for approaching 15 months now.

      You'd still need a separate sensor for each tank as each tank would evaporate water at a different rate. Unless you did some sort of gravity fed system of course.

My friend I trust you all your comments but what can I do without putting a reservoir tank and loosing space around the tank. Thank You

    Used the JBJ for 10 years and never failed. My problem with all tunze is too complicated for what their devices do(imo). The control box is not sealed well moister wise. Had that with a powerhead from them. Controller fell apart for 500.00
    Only replaced the JBJ due to age. Replaced with the little auto_aqua and that is sealed and simple with even built in safety logic in it.

    • @samiam9059
      @samiam9059 9 років тому

      Their customer service is excellent(best part). But the power head was noisy by design and would just get louder. The output pattern was like a narrow tube. Need to not over think some of their products. (imo) the 9415 and 9420 they were so obsessed with power saving. Were not effective in skimming. Another skimmer had a mechanical piece that was supposed to stick out on the impeller so it would start properly in the right direction. That skimmer was 500.00 and started failing almost immediately just rattling to start the thing each time. In a power outage that was not a good idea.

    @Squillaempusa. 8 років тому

    i was thinking about using one of these in my Brute can rodi reservoir, and running the tubing up and through the ceiling to my tank. do you think the pump is strong enough for this? it would be about 8 ft up, 15 ft across the ceiling (above the drywall), and then down into the sump.

    • @Squillaempusa.
      @Squillaempusa. 8 років тому

      +BulkReefSupplyCom thank you. i'll probably just keep a container filled with ro water next to the sump then. that can get pretty pricey with the cost of the Osmolator and another pump.

    How does the Tunze ATO compare to the Neptune Apex ATO.?

  • @georgearias7336
    @georgearias7336 5 років тому

    Dear Ryan, I bought the Tunze ATO system a couple of weeks ago for my AIO reef aquarium but I'm having a problem. Very frequently the alarm of the ATO system turns on (even late night). The snails of my aquarium love to sit right on the gridles of the aquarium drain slightly obstructing the pass of the water. As a consequence the level of the water in the sum starts to decrease slowly and the ATO system immediately pump more top-off water. In a minute or two the ATO alarm of "too high water level" is on. What kind I do for keeping the snails away of the draining area?? No matter how many times I relocate the snails in a few hours there's again another snail obstructing the pass of the water. My corals are visible suffering the consequences of Alkalinity spikes. Thank you for your assistance!!

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  5 років тому

      You could possibly use an aquamesh to keep them from restricting the water flow. Otherwise you will likely have to create a DIY barrier to prevent them from obstructing this. Those snails can be annoying sometimes!

    Could you please describe the dimensions of the internal magnet mount? I would like to get this product, but I have a rimmed tank and a very high water level and I want to be sure that if I get this product, I can fit the 3155 in my tank without having to drop my water level. Thanks

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  4 роки тому

      The distance from the top of the magnet to the tip of the optical eye is just about 1". Keep in mind the float does stick out a little bit, so if your tank has a thick rim, it may not fit very well.

  • @pjfreak99
    @pjfreak99 9 років тому

    Question - I have a rimless tank and I want to add the Osmolator nano (42 gallon with 16 gallon sump). How much space does the clamp/return on the top of the tank take up? I'm asking because I need to add a mesh top and I'd like to know how much of a gap I need to leave for the clamp/return.

    • @pjfreak99
      @pjfreak99 9 років тому

      *****
      Even if it's only a little higher than the ATO pump? THe video warned against creating a siphon.

    • @pjfreak99
      @pjfreak99 9 років тому

      ***** But even if the return is a little higher than the pump, that would be okay, right? The ATO pump will be probably 3-4 inches off the ground, while the return would be at the top of the sump, probably 12 inches off the ground. That should be okay, right?

    I bought a Tunze from BRS and I love it, I run kalk wasser with a ph moniter that will shut off the tunze if the PH gets to high. Only problem is the Tunze when turned back on runs a 5 or 10 second automaticaly is there a way to stop this.

    • @austinchilders4955
      @austinchilders4955 9 років тому

      My curent solution to this is run the pump wires (not the tunze module plugin) into controller. Only downside is if your pH stays high for more than 15 min the time out features on the tunze trips

    Bought the tunze 3155 from you guys when starting my new build back in the fall. Just hooking it up today following both the instructions and your video. The optical sensor failed right out of the box. cant tell if its recognizing the water because it turns it self off only to turn its self on again a few seconds to a minute later. watched it turn itself off and on until the sensor was even fully submerged and it was still turning itself on. Whats your return policy.

      If you're worried about your sump overfilling in that 10 minute period, then opening up the controller and reducing the flow rate of the included ATO pump is going to be your best bet. When you turn down the flow rate, the ATO pump running for 10 minutes actually isn't much extra water.
