And Terri Lynn Carrington on drums, man!!!!!
Elling never lets me down!
Faraò, what a bad dude... wow!
Can it be said that the lyrics Kurt Elling is singing are by OSCAR BROWN, JR. We mention all the artists, but how can we leave this out so so often? Credit where credit is due.
Yes, and credit for composers Julian Priester and Stanley Turrentine and the first vocal recording of this was by Abbey Lincoln.
I had thought Nina Simone wrote this. Thank you.
Correction, Abbey Lincoln.
This man's voice........
Such a great band!
Fantastic.
Oh I should say I too love Kurt and everybody involved. It gets hard to accept the lack of acknowledgement of ones integral to the music and the lyric. If it is sung, and the lyrics are by someone, why not say so. Music industry overlooked and avoided the "outspoken" Oscar Brown, Jr. Shall all of you also disregard?
Dopeness..👌
Fantastic! I wish I could have heard this band live. The stuff he does with Charlie Hunter in his present tour I don't like that much... This is the real thing for me 😊
Thanks. Because he's appearing in NJ in April. THIS jazz is more my style.
Sounds even better than the previous Elling/'Marsalis live version ; tighter, (less vocal repeats), brisker tempo, return to tonic at the coda, rather than up a 1/2 tone.
As a musician, I have found that some bands seem to pick up the tempo a bit during a performance. Of course, this isn't an absolute. Just saying.
Lockdown lovers should have given this a listen 🤨...
This would have been a good listen for the lovers of lockdowns 🤨
Theres some Sinatra in dat Elling voice🎉
Playing fast is always the best. Pianist has good technical skill but lacking in melody and feeling.
James G I think the pianist had more than just technical skill, since Kurt Elling was the one singing the melody and lyrics, plus scatting. The pianist’s notes for his solo were an ideal contrast to Elling’s performance at such a brisk tempo, with the meter in 5/4.
I beg to differ.
@@kathleenmancle8450 What, with Antonio Farao on piano?
