This video was shot about a football field length from my home. I rode the bus with the young man that it shows towards the end. I remember the night so well. I was 14. I live in the same town and I drive past the this house all the time. Our trampoline is STILL in the field where it landed, 21 years ago.
This guy has some got quite the steel of courage to record something like that even after he was hit by lighting, and knocked out by debris when the huge tornado hit his street. I like how afterwards, the only thing he cared about losing was his tools! I heard that Gary Kays has since passed away, so rest in peace, you made history by recording this awesome footage!
I remember years ago seeing a shortened version of this clip. Awesome to see it in its entirety. I love the serenity of the girl riding the bike and then total chaos within minutes. Weather is amazing.
that was some serious photography, i want to thank you for sharing it with us here on youtube, this was a terrible tragedy for fritch texas and the people that lived there, i hope that ladys dog was ok,
That would be so frightening to see tornadoes all around you and then all of a sudden one is right beside your house. Whoever recorded the video has a lot more courage than I have.
Still one of the most awesome (and intense) tornado videos ever taken! Amazing to see so many elements of the storm at work, and amazing to see our tenacious cameraman get struck by lightning but recover quickly. I believe the Fritch tornadoes were classified as F-2 strength, at least that's what those disintegrating mobile homes seem to indicate.
the narrator on Twister: Fury on the Plains says this man was struck by lightning ( 7:04 ) and knocked unconscious while his video camera continued to film.. doesnt seem like he was too unconcious o.O
His truck was OK, but the car got hit with debris and got a dent in it. Great footage, and I have the short version on "Twisters: Fury on the Plains". The long version is awesome and scary.

the backstory is that this guy gets hit by lightning and keeps going then he gets knocked out by flying debris (the black part)
anybody know who the people are in the video I cant tell...I remember we were at baseball and softball closing ceremonies right before the tornadoes that day I was 12

This UA-cam channel is absolutely awesome. The vintage tornado channel.

I just looked up the Fritch tornado history online. Nobody died in this tornado. That surprises me.

The first thing he looks at after taking shelter is to make sure his truck is okay. Can't say I blame him...lol Great video.
Me neither. Maybe he used his truck for work.

Sounds like a suction vortex got really close at 11:29.

This guy is now deceased. RIP Gary Kays.
Wow. That footage was amazing, especially like minutes 3-9
you could not even hear the thunder as white hot lightning strikes were all around his home. Spectacular!
Where do you find complete videos?! Amazing!

Now thats some high winds & some awesome lightning.
That was fascinating to watch, thanks for posting!
There were sirens a 2T22 to be exact, in a different video it was in wail mode.
Great video, I'm going to make a radar loop of this storm.
If it went over his house, this footage would have very likely not existed.
