Hello there! I was watching all three of the parts. How wonderful clearly and easy explained the basic “what to know about how to play a soprano”. I am a clarinet player and a big fan of the soprano sax. Two very different instruments, but there are also in how to play them. These are so easy explained by Mr. Temperly. Yes, intuitively I found out a number of them, but it gave me goosepimples to hear Mr. Temperly explain them. I played all my life a kind of modern dixieland jazz music and had concerts in many countries. Now I am 75 and can’t play anymore after an accident that left me with a broken neck and effected badly on my hands and fingers. So, no more playing but still interested (of course) in this kind of items. Thank you for posting them!
Hi there you guys! I'm new here, and I just want to share that I have just received a most beautiful Trevor James soprano saxophone as a Christmas present from my dear husband. I've been playing alto since 1982, and I'm looking forward to getting started playing the soprano. It's difficult for me to sit up totally straight as I have scoliosis, but I can still play alto, and it sounds fine. I've got very sensitive hearing so I can hear very clearly if I'm playing out of tune, and I'm very fussy about the tone quality of my playing! I'm looking forward to playing both my saxophones in our music group at church as we play the most beautiful worship songs which would lend themselves to saxophone. Here's to a very exciting 2023, going on another musical adventure!! Feel the joy!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway taking up the soprano will make me work harder on getting better posture too, so that's a plus in itself! I agree that it's no good playing aiming at the floor, cos you want to project the sound outwards as much as possible. I think about Kenny G, and how he holds his soprano outwards when playing. That would be a challenge for me, but I'm determined to work hard to get better posture and get the diaphragm working so the sound is good. I've had major surgery this year, but that won't stop me playing!! I'm ready to get down to some serious playing again. I will take your tips about posture very seriously. Thank you so much!
In my opinion, *Branford Marsalis* has the greatest soprano saxophone tone of all time. It’s so round and smooth…nothing pinched, nasal, or harsh and duck-like
I just use legere it gets rid of all the pain of buying a ton of reeds and curing them for 2 weeks before I even use them then have to break them in then have to trim or sand them then have to throw out half of them. I just buy a legere in my strength that I know works and have a reed that lasts an entire year lol

I am DEFINITELY not Ted nor Joe. Love both these guys. I could listen to them play and talk sax for hours. Learned and laughed so much!
