  • A 60-mile drive along State Route 130 offers a stunning introduction to California's little-known Diablo Range. Five times the size of Yosemite National Park, the range has healthy populations of elk, eagles, kit foxes, condors, and mountain lions. It could be vital to the survival of the region's native plants and animals in a warming world-if we can find ways to keep it wild.
Featuring Seth Adams, Doug Bell, Joseph Belli, Sean Burke, Patrick Kolar, and Kip Will. Videography by Isara Krieger, Kendall Oei, and Cooper Ogden. Still images by Scott Hein and others. Music by Phil Heywood. Writing, production, and narration by Joan Hamilton. Special thanks to Bruce Hamilton, Laura Kindsvater, and Stanislaus County Parks and Recreation.
A SAVE MOUNT DIABLO production adapted from the 83-minute film "Fire, Drought, Rain, and Hope."

You hooked me! Please do more on the animals, plants and geology of this range. I've had a picture of the Diablo Range that looks like it's covered in green velvet that you see on final approach to SJC as a screen saver for may years, because it's a beautiful and mysterous part of California. Tell us more about this mystery and it's history!

I have driven the Del Puerto/Mines Rd legs more times than I can count. Every trip from my home in the North Bay to the south goes through there and back over Coalinga Rd from I5 to Hwy 25, or vice versa. Two of the most scenic and remote drives on the west coast. The full length of 130 must be seen to be believed. Just over the mountain from San Jose is a wildland paradise that probably less than 1% of the people are even aware of, much less have explored.

My uncle owns a cabin there. It was magical visiting. Sad to see governor ruining the entire state. But whatever I'm over it all now. **ck it.

Too many people blabbing. Better would be no yakking, no music, just nature’s noise as soundtrack.
