We always let our dog go outside in the backyard to release itself, never a second thought. Back then, there weren't any coyotes around like there are now! Ironically I just heard them howl outside! They've lost the original habitat with all of the years of drought we've had.
No, they haven't lost habitat. They've gained it. People who learn everything they know about wildlife, especially coyotes, from watching Disney cartoons always get that wrong. The coyote population has exploded all over the nation over the past thirty years. They are now living in states where they were not found prior to the 1980s. Coyotes have even invaded New York's Central Park. They go where the food is. People are inadvertently feeding them their little dogs and cats all over the country now. There are now so many of them, they are even stalking children and trying to snatch toddlers and babies from in front of their homes and from their backyards. Coyotes never lose habitat. They are one of the most adaptable predators out there. They gain habitat, and humanity is helping them.
Be careful. Possession of a baton is a felony in California. Probably won’t be an issue in your backyard, but I’d be cautious taking on a walk. Strangely though, California has no laws preventing you from carrying a machete, as long as it’s not concealed. If you swap your baton out for an edged weapon, you won’t be breaking any state laws (check local ordinances though).

Here's a better solution: Don't let' your pets out unsupervised, have the city trap and relocate the coyotes, then have the city put up barbed wire fencing around the area to keep them out.
More wildlife are coming into urban areas because of their habitat being destroyed and food supply diminished due to that and the drought. It’s a real predicament, but slaughtering them won’t help the situation, it will just compound it and you will most likely end up with an over run population of smaller animals such as raccoons and rats. As long as they are hungry, they will keep gravitating towards a food supply. Maybe no more development in wildlife habitat areas.
We go camping almost every weekend. We just recently bought a coyote and hawk vest from the internet. We haven’t used it yet but seems dangerous if my Pomeranian were to play with another dog. I don’t let him off leash but he likes to run so thought we should get back up. My heart goes out to those who lost their family members. We have coyotes in the city so I bet they are realllllly bad out there where they can be sly. I hope they find a way to mediate this wild animal situation.
Growing up in Marin myself, I remember seeing one or two coyotes out in the rural protected land near the town of Fairfax on cross country runs. Recent visits to my old home where my parents moved back is when I heard from a neighbor that coyotes sometimes show up over there. The more I got to learn about them; the coyotes say, “We are looking for food and territory. Otherwise, either scare us away and we respect you. If you leave us, tasty food, we are here.” That is what I hear from coyotes after learning their ways. Basic animal safety, and the knowledge that you can scare them away by using their railing yowl.
If you showed this to people who lived one hundred years ago, they would be aghast at how helpless modern humans are. Imagine if one hundred years from now it was illegal to kill cockroaches in your home because "Insects have rights too!"
Cayotes have the right to live too. The pets owner have the obligation to watch out their pets don’t let them out unwatch. Please leave the Cayotes alone.

But laws will have to change. And that's the hard part. It's illegal to trap and relocate, as they stated in the video.
@@LoyaFrostwind then we'll put them in YOUR backyard.
@@imrytebeehyneu ha ha. No thanks.
Weren't the coyotes there first?? F baby yo
I hope they find a way to mediate this wild animal situation.
people like you should not be allowed to roam the streets.
If you leave us, tasty food, we are here.”
That is what I hear from coyotes after learning their ways. Basic animal safety, and the knowledge that you can scare them away by using their railing yowl.
God's dog has a healthy fear of people where I live. They are hunted regularly and without remorse. It's open season all year round.
Missing cats in the neighborhood? You say that like it's a bad thing.
It is. Cats are awesome. Certainly more awesome than you
Totally, first get rid of cats.
Just live in haromoy with them , there are ways to do so
@@JohnS-er7jhthere are too many people already. Let the coyotes be
If you showed this to people who lived one hundred years ago, they would be aghast at how helpless modern humans are. Imagine if one hundred years from now it was illegal to kill cockroaches in your home because "Insects have rights too!"
1:35 "We literally aren't sure if we can stay here"
I’m surprised how much common sense these folks are lacking, it’s truly amazing
Why don’t you open an archery season for hunters that would PAY for tags instead of spending tax payers money…
Cayotes have the right to live too. The pets owner have the obligation to watch out their pets don’t let them out unwatch. Please leave the Cayotes alone.
Seriously, get 220 volt wire and put it on some bait. When wiley comes calling, flip a switch.
Maybe someone wil flip the switch on you
@S B Yeah, just before I flip the switch, roadrunner zips by and plugs the end of the cord into my balls. Beep, beep. And I fry all blackfaced, my skeleton flashing. Then in total oblivion to any racial sensitivity, I start singing old Negro vaudeville songs with a cane and straw hat.
My strong German Shepard is the one dog the coyotes dare not to mess with him Simba is an alpha German shepherd he will go full i am legend mode and chase after a deer 🦌
No kill. Just like crazy dogs. Respectful of All life.
What do coyotes and dogs eat?
@@John-Brown sad to be wealthy.
Buncha rich tyrants want to shoot nature because they don’t like coyotes. These folks make me sick. They live in one of the richest gated communities in the entire state and have done things like cut off all the access to the island so you can’t even visit if you aren’t insanely wealthy. I sincerely hope the government says no, the coyotes deserve to live free.
How the fuck taking over their land and blaming animals for this problem causing by us . Let alone not for get how extinction happened to CA grizzly bear
Oh, that’s so sad!! I’d be so mad.
I picture the coyotes talking about us in the same way though. (These people have to go.)
Mamma should know! The dog was the owners’ responsibility! Mr. Coyote is an ugly way to address animals who obviously are hungry!Easy for those that occupy animals’ spaces. Easy for US to occupy and kill others but oh’my goodness coyote must go! Horrid, insensitive, irresponsible people! Disgusting.
how bout getting a pitbull or other large dog ya know to guard your home from predators.
OH Karen,
leave Mr Coyote alone!!
This earth is for everyone.
Human activities change the climate which make their habitat food-less. human activities make wildlife go hungry.
How about armed robberies in Oakland? Somebody Trying to skip the job…
Coyotes are a headache. They should be given birth control. They walk freely in Golden Gate Park and in some SF neighborhoods.
Privileged people with non- issue issues. I mean come on, you live in a beautiful place. Come to Oakland, face real problems
Mister coyote could be right there.
Just trap them and locate them. Some say it's illegal. Well if it is, put the coyotes in THEIR backyard. See how they feel to have them.
Personally I like coyotes because they are beautiful animals but I’ve never had cause to dislike them.
A good quality powerful pellet rifle will kill a problem small predator like a mature coyote if needed.
My neighbor in Oregon has a coyote dog she ties up right on the property line to bark and scare me. If it doesn't bark she hits it . Punches it in the head. The cops laugh.
Coyote eat rodents most of the time. 🤷🏼♀️it’s not legal to kill them
I have never let my pets out alone. These wealthy people don't want to put in work so they would rather take the easy way out
Dean Karnazes got attacked by a coyote in Marin.
